Just spent a very enjoyable family half-day here (and Matlock Bath) and can recommend a visit.
Nevertheless felt it could've been so much better with a few changes.
First, lower the prices - 2 adults + child cost me £35 - not extortionate, but enough to make you keep asking "am I getting my money's worth ?" throughout the trip which inevitably taints the experience. Surely £20-£25 would be more reasonable.
Second, the guide did a fine job on the cavern trip but had limited material to work with. I fully appreciate it was a working mine but it could do with enhancing to bring the guide's narrative to life. Why not copy the Black Country museum - period figurines in situ, sound effects, etc. - surely tremendous added value for a small outlay.

We had a really enjoyable day here, the ride up and down in the cable car was quite something. Not good for anyone with walking issues as it is on a hill top.

Expensive for what you get, cable car is good but £39 for a family of 4? Cave trips included but only short tours. Views are very nice, otherwise overall not worth the money in my opinion.

Definitely our best day out whilst holidaying around Matlock. Make sure you put enough money in the meter at the car park - you can easily spend 4 - 5 hours on your visit.

We all enjoyed the cable car ride to get to the top. Nice cake and coffee in the restaurant followed by a 30 minute guided tour of the Masson Cavern with it's light show. Plenty of fun in the play areas, and then a visit to the Rutland Cavern with it's audio visual presentation.

The staff were all very helpful and knowledgable. Good value family ticket at £39 - highly recommended day out.

We went to the Heights as I really enjoy this kind of thing and although I have been on funicular railway rides, I had never been in a cable car, having never been ona skiing holiday before ! So I and especially my wife were both surprised that when you get on the cable car it is still moving when you get ! The people who were there helping did not say anything about this as maybe they are so used to it they think everyone else is ? But once going up my wife didn't like the ride at all mostly as the cable cars themselves are very open all the way round so it is great for viewing from but she became very disorientated but she struggled through with it ! I thought it was great the views were brilliant, although it was slightly disconcerting that the blocks of 3 cables cars stop about 2/3 of the way up alongside another 3 cable cars going the other way and you are basically left hanging there for a few minutes ? Not sure whether this is just for people to take in the views or some mechanical reason, but it would recommend it. I think there needs to be more communication from staff to tell people what to expect and that there will be a stop taking place.
