“Great beach hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

Booked this initially for 2 nights because the prices looked great, then extended 2 more nights over the weekend, rates more expensive - but worth it.
Great Cafe solo from the restaurant downstairs. We never ate there as there are so many places in the town and on the sea front to eat that are just a foot step away.
Nice bright clean rooms. Air vin worked great. Lovely sea views from the balcony which had the sun all day. So if you get tired of sand in your face on the beach you can retreat up there in no time. Stayed on the top floor so I thing our room had one of the best balconies.
The staff are friendly and helpful. Can't really fault this place. Would definitely come again.

We booked over a weekend which made it slightly expensive. It's location is excellent 2 small roads off the beach. There are very helpful staff & it is clean. Great €1 cafe to be had downstairs! The balcony has sun all day & evening with a sea view if you can get it. Quiet as there are only a few rooms. Would revisit!

My self and my daughter have just returned home from a fantastic riding holiday with Fantasia adventure holidays. We stayed inthe Adiafa, its ran by a lovely spanish family who were alwaysthere to help even ifthere wasnt much English spoken. The hotel is very trendy and clean. The location ofthe beach is exellent with it being right onthe sea front with some very nice places to eat. We are bookingthe riding holiday again next year so looking forward to staying here again and also booking an extra week so spend a little more time in Barbate.

Myself and a friend stayed in this hotel recently, it was exceptionally clean and ideally located. The rooms with the balcony were brilliant, beds comfortable, modern interiors, well located next to beach and shops just around the corner. Whilst staff didn't speak English, we didn't speak Spanish but we still managed to communicate! I gave the owner a letter to post thinking he would send it with the rest of the hotel post but he actually took it round to the post box himself which was a good few blocks away!! A family run hotel which really does deserve support as clearly they go the extra mile to make sure their guests are comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony were excellent for late night drinks and looking out over the beach, brilliant at...

I have stayed in Hotel Adafia twice while enjoying a riding holiday. Most recently in May 2012. I find the hotel to be very quiet, peaceful and clean. It is minimalistic. It is very Spanish but I have always found the staff to be friendly and they do their best to understand you. It does help if you know a few Spanish words to show a willingness. Barbate is not a tourist destination ... thank God. But if you love horse riding and fantastic horses, with a good base to relax in, with great food locally, then this is the hotel, along with Fantasia Riding Holidays.

Barbate is not really on the foreign tourist beat, so this hotel is a local holiday hotel for Spaniards. While it might be the least unpleasant hotel in Barbate, that isnt saying much. Not a word of English spoken by anyone in the hotel. No international tv channels - just local broadcast tv.

The Property:
A new four storey block by the seafront in Barbate. Ambience is meant to be cool clean chic, but actually works out as cold, clinical and thin.

The Room:
We had two. One a balcony room, the other not. Both had single beds next to each other. I dont think this hotel has proper doubles. Both a good size - 150-180 feet - plus a full bath. The balcony was big enough to sit four on with a table, though the view is simply the town square. The roof balcony rooms might be nicer. The hotel seems to have some sort of cool remote control system. So, we found that the aircon/heating was locked off, and came on at random moments. The minibar refused to open for my 17 year old daughter, my hot water ran out overnight (how?); our room keys deprogrammed themselves at random. The room safe was obscure, and no instructions in english.

The bed:
Single beds, thin, medium to hard, cheap and nasty.

Service:
We arrived by prior arrangement at quarter after midniight, having driven three hours. The night porter gave us a gallic shrug to say he knew nothing. After showing him the booking email he gave us the wrong rooms, having put someone else in ours. Not an encouraging or welcome start.

The cafe:
Breakfast was a lucky dip - ask for x and y arrived, very very slowly.

Service:
The whole hotel seemed to be run by two people, well meaning enough but largely ineffectual.

Conclusion:
If in need then any bed is acceptable, but if not in need then stay somewhere else. Seven miles west of Barbate is the beach village of Canos de Meca - if you can find somewhere here that's open then I would head west.

Room Tip: Roof top terrace rooms look the best.

This is not high season, and someone could say we shouldn't have expected the same services we could find during summer. I do not agree with this. Many hotels in town are closed during winter. If you decide to keep it open, charging your customers for the room, then you need to offer the same exact service that you would have found in summer.
We arrived and the person at reception did not welcome us. She arrived after few minutes and gave us the key without saying a word, and without even telling us where the room is. The room is really plain, but that would not be an issue. However, towels are obviously old (and yellowish), frigo-bar does not work, and the bottle of water we received from the bar was rusty!
Hotel does not provide breakfast included in the price. If you decide to buy it, be ready to receive a slice of toasted bread with jams, a glass of juice and coffee. Not that bad, unless you were expecting continental breakfast with various food. This could have been offered for free with the room.
Last, but not least, the A/C! It is winter (although this is not a cold part of Spain). I'd like to know why we cannot put the A/C at a temperature higher than 25 degrees celsius!!
I would not suggest this hotel!
