Stayed here recently for 1 night. The owner, Mr. Brian Wickham is a very pleasant gentleman. When we checked in he showed us our rooms, then provided coffee in the lounge. He also willingly provided us some directions and recommendations for various pubs and restaurants for our evening meal.
The rooms were very comfortable. The real highlight for us was the breakfast. He had several different items beyond the traditional "Irish cooked breakfast" and the meal presentation was worthy of a 5 star hotel.
It was a bit testy leaving the premises. You have to drive through a gate in the property walls right next to the street. You have to either pray that there are no oncoming vehicles, or have someone get out of the car as a "lookout" for traffic.
I must also confess that I was not overly impressed with Dungarvin itself--at least the harbor area that we visited. And one of the pubs that we stopped in on the "square" just off the harbor had several inebriated patrons, and seemed not to like Americans. We got very bad vibes and left as quickly as possible. This was the only such experience I had ever encountered in Ireland and this was my 5th visit.
We stopped in Kinsale for lunch on our way to Dungarvin. Much more interesting than Dungarvin in my opinion.
