Beautiful beach at all times of the year. I'm particularly fond of visiting it in the winter months. Can get quite busy on a sunny day, particularly at the weekends.
Parking can be a bit of an issue here. There are three areas where parking is available with pros and cons to each:
The hotel side: can get very busy. Unless you are here very early on a busy day you will probably have to pay for parking or park a good 10 minutes walk from the beach (which can be a bit of a drag to walk back after a long day spent lounging in the sun :) Plus: all the shops/ice-cream places/chipper are on this side of the beach. It is also patrolled by a lifeguard and there is the facility to rent canoes during the peak months.
Over by what is known as the "Castle side" is usually much quieter. However, there is a very small car park and so most people end up parking on the road which can get quiet chaotic.
Finally, there is another carpark at the Ballinclamper end. However, there are no toilet facilities on this side of the beach and this part of the beach is much rockier.
