“Beautiful Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Beautiful beach at all times of the year. I'm particularly fond of visiting it in the winter months. Can get quite busy on a sunny day, particularly at the weekends.

Parking can be a bit of an issue here. There are three areas where parking is available with pros and cons to each:

The hotel side: can get very busy. Unless you are here very early on a busy day you will probably have to pay for parking or park a good 10 minutes walk from the beach (which can be a bit of a drag to walk back after a long day spent lounging in the sun :) Plus: all the shops/ice-cream places/chipper are on this side of the beach. It is also patrolled by a lifeguard and there is the facility to rent canoes during the peak months.

Over by what is known as the "Castle side" is usually much quieter. However, there is a very small car park and so most people end up parking on the road which can get quiet chaotic.

Finally, there is another carpark at the Ballinclamper end. However, there are no toilet facilities on this side of the beach and this part of the beach is much rockier.

“beautiful stretch of sand”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

it been awhile since i was at this beach it is a hard beach to find if you're unsure of the way but once you find this little secluded beach you wont be disappointed the 1.5 mile stretch of golden sand is breathtaking and the little group of rock pools will keep the children happy for hours on end exploring but you have to watch the tide as it comes in very quickly and you can be caught off guard but its worth a visit there is a hotel at one end but prefer to take a picnic and it for all the family there are amenity there so you wont get caught short

“Golf Society Break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

On the hottest week of the past decade it was such a treat to take a refreshing dip at Clonea strand after golf. Very clean with a team of four guys walking the strand clearing any litter.

“Stunning beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

This is my local beach and is just wonderful - You can walk one end to the other, approx 1.5 miles each way... you can bring your dog there out of season months, there are signs and most good dog owners will pick up after their dogs so quiet safe for kids!!
When the tide is out it is a magnificent beach and can feel like it stretchs for miles
