Camping Butterfly

We booked our 12 day holiday at Camping Butterfly through Canvas. There were initially 6 of us sharing a Jubilee 29 midi, for which the caravan was far too small, smaller than anything I have stayed in in England. For 4 people the caravan is OK. They had air conditioning which was needed, as very hot in August. Didnt find the Canvas rep very helpful, found the waiting staff in the restaurant pleasant enough. The restaurant also did lovely food and take out. The campsite itself is a nice size, mainly catered for Dutch/German/Italians. The swimming pool was absolutely freezing and you had to wear swimming caps, as there was a very stern lifeguard parading around the pool. As the family werent too keen on wearing caps we headed to the pebble beach, about 7 minutes walk and good fun with pedaloes. Peschiera itself is really pretty, about 20 min walk (quite a long way in the heat). Also you can get a boat to other parts of the island, which is well worth doing. Malchesine at the top of the lake is so pretty, well worth the 2 hour boat ride to go up into the mountains in the cable car. A word of warning about the banks. We took travellers cheques and many of the banks would not cash them, so would only take cash of credit cards next time. The market in Peschiera on a Monday was good, but very very busy. All in all we had a great time and would return to this part of Italy, however not sure if I would book through Canvas.

Just back from a 5 night stay that I booked directly with Butterfly. We stayed in a Verona caravan and it was plenty big enough for 2 adult and 2 small kids. It was nearly half the price that eurocamp and canvas had quoted us.
Very friendly and small site, not many brits mostly dutch or italians. All the kids clubs and entertainment was in dutch/Italian.
Good location 15 min walk into Pescheria, and good base for exploring. We went to see Bella Italia and I have to say I was shocked by the size of it, and confirmed my love of the smaller sites. Might give Eden a go next year!

Just back from a 2 week holiday in Camping Butterfly in Peschiera on the southern shore of Lake Garda.

We booked a "Festival-Midi", mobile home type accomodation with Canvas - What a mistake! First of all it wasn't cleaned properly with cobwebs everywhere. This was down to the onsite Canvas staff. And secondly, it was the smallest accomodation we have ever had. The main bedroom was only 6 inches bigger than the bed so there was no room to get dressed, the 2nd bedroom was too small for three kids, even though it had three single beds. We even had to back-in to the toilet! Our own fault perhaps for not understanding the size of the Festival-Midi, but I feel the Canvas sales rep should have known it would be too small for a family with teenagers. Thankfully there was decking outside with a table and chairs so this became our dining room.

The campsite itself is small to medium sized. It's very clean and well run with a small swimming pool and childrens play area. It has a good restaurant that offers a good menu at reasonable prices, it also does takeaways. There is a small supermarket but this is very expensive - as most on-site supermarkets are!
The campsite reception staff were friendly and helpfull in all areas from taking bookings for the opera, to giving directions to any destination. The staff at the restaurant and supermarket, do their job well but can be defensive and will not go out of their way to be helpful. There is evening entertainment but its aimed at young kids, not teenagers. Our 7 year old enjoyed it but not so the other two aged 14 & 17.

The Campsite itself is in a great location with a small pebble beach just 200 meters away that offers peddle boats, sun loungers and umbrellas. There is also a small jetty that you can jump from into the lake and a lovely walk along the lakeside. .
There are numerous restaurants and pizzerias nearby and the town centre of Peschiera is only a fifteen minute walk (which is also very pleseant).

Peschiera itself is vibrant and buzzing in the evenings and offers everything you expect from a small lakeside town, including great food from its many restaurants (at very reasonable prices). Peschiera is a great base for many activities including Gardaland and the other theme parks, boating (motor & sail) and sight-seeing.

We will definately go back to the Lake Garda area - to a different town, but only because we've experienced Peschiera. We will stay away from Canvas and be sure to book larger accomadation.

Just back from 10 days in Venetia Style mobile home in Camp Butterfly. Do not recommed this mobile for any more than 3 people, too small for any more. We had two adults and three children and found it very cramped. Reception staff ok, bar and restaurant staff not very friendly on the defensive all the time, closes at 11pm!!! as does the whole of Peschiera it seems. Didnt find italians very friendly, and the service is extremely slow compared to Spain so be prepared to wait. Camp butterfly caters for Germans, and Dutch mainly so no english/irish newspapers or books etc in the local supermarket which was very expensive. We did not have a car but were able to bus it to Gardaland, Sealife, Movieland Aqua paradise with free shuttle bus from local bus station about 20min walk but when its hot it feels a lot longer. We also got a taxi to the big supermarket and back which is much cheaper but too far to walk to in hot weather. If going to Opera in Verona, don't book with reception as we did, book tickets at office next to bank in town and get the train to Verona only 2 euro, and tickets about 30 euro. No irish/english food stuff like sausages/rashers, heinz spagetti or noodles for kids so bring with you. Overall had nice holiday but wont be visiting Italy again for a while.

We have just returned from two weeks at Camping Butterfly and thorougly enjoyed our stay there. We travelled from Gatwick Airport to Verona Airport with BA and had pre booked a taxi transfer from the airport to the campsite which took about 20 minutes. We did not hire a car for this holiday.
Camping Butterfly is a small/medium campsite which along with their own accomodation is also served by several well known camping tour operators. We travelled with Camping Life. The caravan itself was smaller than expected but on a par with the other accomodation available at this site. It was a fairly new caravan and everything in it was clean and in working order. However, the pitch itself was very dusty with no grass to speak of. We did have our own sunbeds along with patio furniture. There was no air conditioning in this caravan. I did notice that other tour operators offered decking and air conditioning in their caravans and I think if I were to travel to this site again I would definately consider a company that offered these facilities.
Camping Butterfly itself is a lovely site. It is very family orientated and very lively in August but not rowdy as no all girl/boy groups are allowed. The childrens entertainment on this site was excellent during the time we stayed there. It was run by Camping Butterfly and there were activities all day long for the children. My 12 year old son was kept well occupied with both the daytime activities and the evening entertainment and my 15 year old son made friends with several nationalities through playing on the small and sandy five a side football pitch which was very popular. There is a small supermarket on site which supplies the basic necessities but the nearest big supermarket was about a 30 minute walk away . Not a problem if you have hired a car but we did find it a bit of a struggle in the heat to carry the shopping back to the campsite. There is a restaurant onsite which serves meals at sensible prices and also supplies a take away service in the evening. Sunbeds around the pool cost 2 euros a day per bed bookable at reception. I would advise booking the sunbed early. English is spoken at reception and the staff there were very helpful.
Apart from the difficulty with shopping we didn't really feel a car was necessary. Peschiera is a comfortable 15 minute walk away.
The railway station in Peschiera offered easy access to Milan, Verona and Venice and English was spoken at the ticket office. If you do decide to go anywhere by train it is worth finding out first where the railway station is situated as it is on the outskirts of the town and a little difficult to find initially although it is only a 15 minute walk from Camping Butterfly. There is free transport from the railway station to Gardaland (well worth a visit) and also to Aqua Paradise and Movieland. There are also boats running to the various towns on the lake along with a "hop on hop off" tourist bus which covers the southern end of the lake. All in all this was a very successful holiday and I would definately consider returning to Camping Butterfly again.
