We found Podere Le Cave searching online for a Tuscan farmhouse that was central for day trips to Florence, Pisa, Volterra, San Gimignano and Siena, but we also wanted one with a pool and with horses for horseback riding. Podere Le Cave exceeded our expectations with their hospitality, incredibly beautiful location and their pet dog, Flash, who endeared himself to us so much that we wanted to bring him home with us!

This farmhouse is on the side of a mountain facing all of Florence below in the valley, and a monastery and some other beautiful villas. The location was absolutely perfect for driving distances around Tuscany for 5 days of exploring the area. It was also only 5 minutes from the town of Impruneta for groceries and supplies and the lovely La Loggettina restaurant, where we ate twice during our stay.

One of the Podere Le Cave owners, Dante, was wonderfully gracious after our horseback ride (1.5 hours of trails for 25 Euros each) and let my niece help him in the stables every day, showing her some Italian riding techniques that differ from North American riding she had been taught.

The farm's resident dog, Flash, was the cutest, most loveable dog, sitting on our front steps as soon as he heard us moving in the mornings, to greet us as we came out. He was a real sweetie and a nice homey thing to have so far from home.

The pool was so gorgeous that we cut short two of our day trips in Tuscany to get back to Podere Le Cave earlier to sit by the pool and enjoy it.

I highly recommend this farmhouse to anyone looking for a working holiday (they grow olives, grapes, tomatoes and figs here) or for a week away of relaxing bliss in the hills by the pool.

Room Tip: They rent out only 3 rooms here, so it depends on the size of the group booking. The max they can rent to is 4 people in one apartment.

Mariella and family were friendly, welcoming and very helpful hosts. The room was immaculate and had everything for our needs. The Olive farm itself is such a beautiful place to stay, amongst the rolling hills of Tuscany, that we wanted to stay there every day to soak up the peace and the quiet and the sheer beauty of the place, and we had to push ourselves to actually leave to go and do some sightseeing :-) It is located very near beautiful Florence which is such a gorgeous place, and we felt it was similar to Verona. The pool and all the outside areas are WONDERFUL and we could not believe to have found such a gem of a place. Swimming in the pool at night under the moon and the stars was incredible and it was lovely to go and see the horses and sweet shetland pony every day; I wish that I had taken up the offer of a ride and a cookery lesson, but will be definately doing that on our next visit! If you want peace and quiet, culture, beautiful scenery and to be in a central place for sightseeing, this is the place to stay. Without doubt, we WILL be back :-) because we had such a great time. Thanks you Mariella and Dante x

Room Tip: You need to really hire a car to come here and benefit from the location if you plan to do some sightseeing. Chianti is not far, Florence is 15 minutes away and beautiful Sienna is also not far, so you must stay long enough to see some of Tuscanys other beautiful places.

We stayed at Podere le Cave first time 6 years ago and were amazed by the idylic beauty of this Tuscany typical house and its splendid location, in the heart of an olive orchard, looking over Florence, which is only a few km away. It was great coming back to the beautifully set pool and to our private room and veranda every afternoon after visiting Florence, Sienna, Pisa and all the great small villages in the surrounding hills. Evenings on the veranda of Casina were a very special treat - Florence in lights, cicadas and quiet romantic nature around. We loved Podere Le Cave so much, that we decided to come again this year for a long weekend - to enjoy Florence and rediscover our beautiful Tuscany house of Mariella and Dante, the friendly owner family. We will definitely come again, as we cannot imagine Tuscany or Florence without our lovely evenings at Podere le Cave.

This place was by far the most romantic of all our Italian stays. A little hard to find. The apartment was immaculate. Everything was pristine. All your needs were taken care of. Dante and Mariella were wonderful and her English perfect. We had a self catering breakfast outside under a huge umbrella, overlooking Florence. And the sunsets, oh my goodness!!. Every evening we would go down to the pool and swim, read and drink while waiting for the sunset. An amazing orange ball dropping down past the mountains. Words cannot describe the beauty. Then the lights of Florence would start to flicker on. I loved this place. Very easy to get to town. Mariella makes sure you have a map and directions to get you right down into the parking spot for walking into Florence. Went to the Ufizzi museum, climbed the bell tower for amazing views of Florence and walked the Ponte Vechio bridgeWent to Imprunata for dinner and ate at a beautiful hotel on the roof top. Gorgeous. It's quite a rural setting but a must stay for those with a car. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

We stayed at Podere Le Cave just outside Florence in the Tuscana Hills. The B&B is very nice and has the most wonderful views of the surrounding hills and Florence in the evening. The pool was very refreshing after a day out site seeing. The family running the B&B, Mariella and Dante are very friendly and helpful. The room we nicely furnished and we had a little private patio to sit and enjoy the views as well as using the upper patio. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to visit Florence and get a feel for the Tuscany area.
