“Hospitality and charm bringing Montalcino to top of your destination list”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

A lot can be said when the recollection of your visit to Italy's picturesque hilltowns is crowned by this wonderful B and B in the center of Montalcino hosted by Roberto and Lucilla. Their hospitality and generous sharing of their time and information suggesting wonderful sights to enjoy made our time their so memorable. We were so happy to stay in one of their mini-suites so beautifully renovated in Old World charm making our visit feel so authentically Italian. We encourage anyone with Montalcino as part of their itenary to include the experience of Palazzina Cesira.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to one of their mini-suites.

Stayed for one night. Beautifully restored place and very comfortable bed. Just around corner from wine shops and restaurants. Great breakfast and hosts with good local recommendations.. Would definitely stay here again.

Cannot believe I had never been to Montalcino before. Now, I'll never go back to Italy without spending at least two or three nights there -- specifically at Robert and Lucilla's wonderful Palazzina Cesira. I actually burst out laughing when entering our room -- the only one available when we could come to Montalcino. It was, fitting the name of the B&B, palatial. Cool water waiting on the table. A mini fridge so we could buy things at the local tiny grocery store (Robert will direct you to the best one to shop at) and have a picnic the next day. A huge bathroom and fantastic bed. Antiques everywhere, beamed ceilings, quiet, quiet, quiet. You're so high up in the mountains and so far away from the cities that, when the stars come out, you can lose yourself in them. The breakfasts were the best we've ever been offered anywhere in the world -- fresh fruits, fantastic coffee, and either an "American" style eggs/meat bacon entree or a continental breakfast. Oh, and, of course, the jams were homemade by Lucilla.

Robert knows and loves this area and will help you find the treasures that speak particularly to your interests. We concentrated on history, rather than wine. (I know, crazy, right? This is Brunello country. But it's also miles deep in history, including rare access to Etruscan burial tombs.) Robert made us a wonderful, detailed map of where to go and even suggested the order in which to visit things, looking out for worries like traffic or church closing hours.

His restaurant recommendations were perfect -- fantastic food and atmosphere at reasonable prices (given that you're in a place catering to visitors). And just walking into Robert and Lucilla's home was a treat in itself. Make sure to ask him the history of the place and his family's connection to Montalcino. You'd never guess it by talking to him (with his slight New England accent), but his family is from Montalcino. He clearly loves the Palazzina and Montalcino and is so pleased to share them both with others.

Oh, and if you're reading this Robert, forgive the Strunk & White errors.

Room Tip: If you can, spend the little bit extra and get the junior suite. It's fantastic! However, all...

We left Siena spur of the moment and felt fortunate to get a lovely room at Palazzina Cesira. We called ahead and spoke with the owner Robert, and he gave us perfect driving directions, making it very clear how to avoid the nearby ZTL zones and exactly where to unload and then park.
We had a lovely, comfortable room in what turned out to be our favorite Hill Town. Robert and his wife Lucilla were wonderful hosts, offering a delicious breakfast and all the ammunition one could use to drive around the Tuscany area. There is a large common living room that is cozy and the whole house is spotless. You can see the pride in ownership and their joy in hosting visitors. This B & B is ideally located in this small village and we walked all around the cobblestoned village, just enjoying the local flavor and beautiful views.
Dinner, a quick walk down the street at Taverna Grappolo Blu (will review separately) was so local, so fresh and so good we ate there both nights. Having Robert make the reservation was helpful.
For most of our trip, we did everything on our own and it really was nice to have someone so knowledgeable offering a helping hand and making our trip a little more relaxing.

Palazzina Cesira is a lovely property right in the heart of Montalcino making it an easy walk anywhere in town. Our suite room was the nicest of all the places we stayed in on our 3 week trip to Italy. Robert and Lucilla were charming hosts and provided excellent tips for restaurants, wineries and other sites to see in the area, including Siena and other hill towns in Tuscany. Parking is included, but it's a 5 minute walk to the public lot. Note that the B&B is on the 2nd floor of the building.

Roberto is a consummate host who has extraordinary knowledge of the town of Montalcino as well as the surrounding areas and provides great insight to his guests as to the most important places to go in the surrounding area. He is particularly knowledgeable about the art and architecture of the town as well as the cuisine and wines. Count on him to provide you a list of the best restaurants in the town. His gracious afternoon conversation after a long day of walking around the town provided a wonderful respite and good historical understanding. As a well-known international photographer, he has an extraordinary perspective on how to enthuse the eye and gratify the spirit. His wife, Lucilla, is a charming partner and exquisite hostess. You cannot go wrong staying in their lovely palazzina. One other gem of hospitality is the delicious breakfast that he serves each morning. I look to return to Palazzina Cesira the next time I go to Montalcino as his hospitality makes you feel like you're in a home away from home. - Leo S.

This is my third stay at Palazzina Cesira. And again it was perfect. A great relaxing B&B; with wonderful hosts. It is clean and comfortable. A great place to make as your headquarters for travels around Tuscany. It is close to the other hill towns and Siena. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, and have there own bathrooms. It even come with breakfast, which is a great way to economize. A great place to stay.
