Description: The gourmet buffet presented at La Pieve, has quickly become known for its innovation, drawing those who like to broaden their gastronomic horizons beyond the local, traditional Tuscan fare. The cuisine of the La Pieve changes daily and incorporates a variety of high quality seasonal fresh ingredients and influences from all over Italy. A more traditional Tuscan menu is also available for ordering a la carte. Guests may experience a tradition of Italian cuisine, sometimes reproduced faithfully or sometimes revisited with imagination. The entire space or a part of the restaurant can be reserved for lunches, cocktail hours, dinners, private parties and weddings. For each of these occasions, the staff works together with clients to determine a perfectly customized menu. The interior space of the restaurant can accommodate up to 90 seated guests. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner daily except on Mondays. Cooking classes can be arranged upon request.

the only reason not to write this review, is to keep this to ourselves. This is by far the best eating experience in the Montalcino area. (We have been staying in this area for 12 years, and have tried many of the oft-reviewed restaurants, many of which are very good.) On many weekends Clara, the chef, presents a buffet dinner at 8 pm with lots of choices for firsts, seconds, and so on. Her soups and pastas are unbelievable. Seconds are very good as well and there are salads, vegetables and great desserts. On many weekday nights when it is not crowded, the dinner is a la carte, but still with choice and the same high quality. they have a surprisingly under-priced and broad wine list and the price is very affordable for the entire meal. To get there from Montalcino, leave on the Grosetto road and after a few kilometers, there will be a right hand turn with "Tavernella" on the signs. Make that right and in about a kilometer there is a left hand turn, again with the Tavernella sign and also a small la pieve sigh. go a little under 7.5 kilometers (half paved road, have unpaved (white) road, staying as straight ahead as you can), and la pieve will be on your left. It is part of a renovated small village (borgo) with small church (pieve) with beautiful terracotta sculptures. They also have some guest rooms and they have a pool in the midst of the montalcino wineries. Banfi is about 2 kilometers away (just leave la pieve and turn left). reservations are always a good idea.
