Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco
Ranked #5 of 17 Hotels in Montalcino
Reviewed June 19, 2014

I read many reviews prior to my trip on June 10th. I was with a group of eight couples on a biking trip and this was our home for 4 nights.
What more can be said of this exquisite hotel? Not much. It was one of the the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. We were in a villa, but enjoyed the lovely pool, the food and drinks served by the kindest people. The smaller restaurant was our hang out for three of the nights, where we dined like kings and queens!
After 30 miles of biking each day, I still managed to gain weight from the the delicious pasta's, pizza's, steaks, potato's etc etc.
If you are fortunate enough to get to Tuscany, put this hotel on your bucket list...

Am writing this review at the end of a 7 night stay in Tuscany. This stunning property is most definitely one of the highlights. It used to be a medieval village itself so the grounds and buildings are spread out all over with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside from everywhere.

Check in was faultless with all the service you expect from a property of this price and standard.

The room (we had a junior suite) is huge with a gorgeous separate bathroom suite, very comfortable bed, private terraces and lounge area all in tasteful shades of olive and beige. On the first night it rained so it was really nice to just be able to enjoy the amazing suite.

We did a lot of our town visits (Pienza, montepulciano, Siena) before arriving at CDB so we could just make the most of the hotel. I'd recommend doing the same as it takes quite a while to reach the hotel up in the hills and is a 10k drive up a dirt track to get in which I'm not sure I would want to do more than a couple of times.

Food was great. There are 2 restaurants- one casual and one formal and both had great options albeit quite expensive.

There is a small spa with decent treatments.

I'm really happy we chose CDB as the last place to stay on our Tuscany trip. We would definitely return here and I recommend it if you want total luxurious surroundings and the feeling of being somewhere very 5*. It is very private and you will leave feeling totally relaxed.

The CdB is a fantastic place that will survive for century's. The renovated buildings are a gift to both history and the future. However, the financial management system is archaic and classic Italian. They need to stop nickel dine all charges and concentrate on keeping their gusts charges accurate. The golf course is the finest on the Continent

My husband and I visited Castiglion as one of our first stops in Tuscany. When we arrived we were in awe at the hotel grounds and how manicured they were. Everything was beautiful. The staff was lovely and was very informative and eager to talk with us, definitely a very genuine group of people who appreciated visiting with us. Everything at the hotel was done perfectly, small little touches here and there to make you feel special: a bottle of wine from their winery upon arrival, the mini bar with waters, cokes, and beer was complimentary and so were the snacks that they provided, and upon departure a note was left in the car with another homemade snack and fresh water bottles. You could tell that the staff really cared about their guests and their experience. The breakfast is in the dining room and there is a lovely view of the property. We ate at the more causal restaurant both nights and it was wonderful, great pasta and wine. The pool is gorgeous and very large. The property was very expansive and you didn't feel like there were many people around. Of course at breakfast and dinner you saw that you weren't the only guests there but it was very peaceful and relaxing environment. We had a terrace suite that was incredible with an amazing view. The walk in closet was huge and the bathroom was amazing, lots of room. The property was also nice because they are one of the few that have a gym. The gym was encased in glass and happened to overlook the property which made it a pleasurable workout. It wasn't too large but enough for a group of people to work out at the same time. Overall an absolutely wonderful stay and we can't think of anything that we could ask to have been done differently. We will absolutely be back!

Room Tip: Terrace suite was very expansive and had wonderful views of the property.

We recently returned from a trip to Italy. Castiglion Del Bosco was our accommodation for the middle three nights of our trip between Florence and Rome. Certainly off the beaten path, we were anxious to see the estate we were staying at in Tuscany. To say the least, we were ecstatic when we arrived. Our suites were magnificent and the entire property is beautiful and peaceful. If I return to Italy..... I would love to stay at CDB for the entire trip! Top Notch quality, great service and beautiful setting......you will fall love!

It was absolutely amazing from the service to the room to the ambience. Our only regret was that we only had one night there. We have stayed at some pretty nice places over the years, but this may be the best. We hope to be back there sometime and take advantage of the golf and horseback riding. It was a little difficult to find due to a recently washed out bridge, so make sure you have a decent map of how to get there.

We spent 2 weeks in Italy and this by far was our favorite place to stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms were like living in a very nice home. The dining room had an incredible view and the breakfast and dinners were perfect. We can't wait to return. I am confused by another review about the charges for water and delivery. We had a minibar stocked with water, beer, soft drinks, and snacks that was replenished each day. The day we left there were bottles of water and a bag of treats left in our car for us to enjoy! A very nice touch.

Room Tip: Can't imagine there is a bad room!
