Dida made our stay a real pleasure, with excellent hospitality, expert guidance, and a wonderful room. Parking right in front, a beautiful view of the valley and of the hillside olive tree orchard, and a few steps away from the restaurants and cafes in Montalcino. We look forward to returning!

This place is like a dream! We loved the view, the beautiful room with the arched ceiling, so nicely decorated, and the lovely gazebo and peaceful garden! Annalisa is such a wonderful, friendly and helpful host! She greeted us by letting us pick sweet apricots from her trees, and even showed us the way out of the city when we left. She was very accomodating in bringing in a rollaway bed for our daughter. The bathroom was small but modern and very, very clean! For breakfast, we had a choice of sweet or savory, and we chose the savory option, and she served us a wonderful plate of salami, ham,and other meats along with toast and jams and fruit! the coffee was wonderful as well, with fresh milk! we ate along to some country music being played by the neighbor next door. Truly a wonderful experience in Tuscany, not to be missed!

Our 13 year old daughter kept on telling me that she felt like she was in a movie.

We will be coming back, Annalisa!

We (me and my husband) stayed at Porta Castellana two nights (28-30.04.2012.) on our way to Amalfi. What you can seeon the hotel`s website speaks for itself (it`s not really a hotel but who cares). What you can`t see is its owner - Dida. She is a lovely person, makes you feel at home and the best concierge all the top hotels could dream of. She arranged wonderful meals for us in Montalcino; she helped us buy wonderful Tuscan olive oil; she also arranged different visits to local wineries (for an Irish couple who were staying with us at Porta Castellana; unfortunately we didn`t have enough time for that). While walking in Montalcino, it seems that all the doors there gets open when one mentions the name "Dida".
The room was very cosy, yet very Tuscan (brick walls, old-fashioned furniture, very stylish little things adding that special touch, you just know where you are). The place is very clean. The room was "invisibly" made up while we were having our breakfast. The breakfast is simple, very Italian (delicious coffee, fresh fruit) served outside in a gazebo in a very neat garden with wonderful views of Montalcino and the valley.
If you arrive in Montalcino by car, no problem you can park your car right in front of your room (not an easy task there) although you might need a good GPS to guide you.
Before booking at Dida`s, make sure your knees are ok. Getting from Porta to Montalcino needs climbing almost 100 steps up the hill. For us, it was just an internal part of our stay. Tuscany is not a flat region so what one can expect ...

Very cute, homey spot. Dida is a lovely lady and happy to help with reservations and recommendations and planning of activity for the day. There is a beautiful garden with a view out from Montalcino over the valley. It can serve as a good location to roam Tuscany. It is probably good to plan to eat dinner in town as it is a mountain top town and driving after dinner and some Brunello not advised. Definitely get specific directions as the town streets are very tortuous. We had a wonderful visit.

I ve stayed just one night on this B&B but I´ve had a great experience...The city is so charming and so is porta castellana. The owner is so helpful and gave us amazing tips for the city and around, book a table for us and offered a delicious breakfast on our bedroom.
The view from the garden is amazing and room too. Is big, new and fully decorated..
The only problem was with the shower, that suddenly the hot water stopped coming. As I stayed there one night, I didn´t have time to talk with her about it but I´m sure she´ll take care of this.
And another good point is that they have parking for free!
I just regret of not staying there more nights...You will fall in love with Montalcino!
The most romantic city in all my trip.

We spend only one night in Porta Castellana which was the last day of our vacation in Italy. The room was great, that we felt the energy of the stone walls..It's very comfortable and cozy. Even it was very cold outside in October, the room was very warm. The breakfast was served to our room with great smell of coffee. The location was great that's very close to the center. The landlady was so nice and helpfull..

We stayed at Porta Castallana for 4 nights in September 2011. It is beyond charming. Annalisa, our host, was the best B&B host we've ever experienced. She was helpful, generous and took care of our every need. This 3 room B&B is picture perfect from the outside, and our room was delightful. The bathroom was small but adequate (we found most bathrooms small during our 2 week stay in Italy), everything was very clean and well attended to. There is no common sitting room-living room which most B&B's have but we didn't mind. The breakfast, served on the gazebo overlooking a lovely view, was on the sweet side, mostly sweet biscuits-cookie like pastries, but there was fresh fruit and coffee. The only caution we would mention is that Porta Castallana is at the bottom of the sloping town of Montalcino and so it is 99 steps up, if you're walking, to the main part of town where the restaurants and shops are located. Not for the disabled or very elderly, but was fine for us. We viewed it as our exercise before indulging in wonderful food and wine!
