“great family holiday”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

We very much enjoyed our holiday. Staff were really very attentive and friendly, the rooms were very clean and the hotel overall did not feel overcrowded despite this being high season. Food was good but not outstanding. We preferred the menu restaurants to the buffet. Kids club was great. You need a car to see a bit more of the island and get to the bank (there is a hotel shuttle bus to isla rosa) for example. We found it really helps if you are able to communicate a little bit in Italian (even at the Hotel). We were however not impressed with the fact that guests were charged 15 euros for 2 loungers and an umbrella at the private beach. Also the wifi only worked for an hour at the time (you needed a password from reception) and only in the reception area. In this day and age a good hotel needs to provide easy wifi access to guests. Overall we had a great , relaxing holiday on a lovely beach.

Room Tip: we had 146 which was quite with a great sea view and not in direct sun which in July is helpful. It...

We went with Thomson and stayed here the first week of July and were in rooms 533 / 534. When we arrived at reception at about 12:30 we were informed that the rooms were not ready and we could go and have a drink or lunch and they would phone us when they were ready. We made our way to the saltwater pool bar and ordered lunch. Before the food arrived we had the call to say the rooms were ready and someone was there to take us to our rooms. Two of us returned to reception and finished booking in and to top up out account cards. We were taken to our room on a golf buggy and within 10 minutes we were back at the poolside for lunch.

The rooms were at the very back of the site and were part of a terrace of 6 rooms. They were larger than most we have stayed in and the terrace had a nice view over the rest of the site to the sea. During our stay they were cleaned everyday and were always spotless. After our first night we decided that the bed was far too hard for us and we asked for a mattress topper and extra pillows. This made a huge difference. The air conditioning was efficient and quite quiet.

The breakfast was buffet style with a good choice of food and great coffee. Evening meals could be taken as buffet or by booking in advance, waiter service in the restaurant next to the saltwater pool or you could pay a supplement for an a la carte menu in the open-air restaurant, again located next to the saltwater pool. During our week we did 5 buffets, one waiter service and one a la carte meal. The buffet food was excellent. Every night there were at least six different starters, then a choice of three pasta dishes, three mains and at least six desserts. One of our party doesn't eat meat and he found plenty of choice every day. We paid between 20 – 26 Euro for a bottle of wine. The waiter service meal was also excellent. We chose our menu when we booked at breakfast time. The food and service were excellent. The a la carte meal was fantastic as was the setting. Seeing the sunset from there was amazing. One of our party was celebrating a birthday and we were presented with a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine. The drinks in the hotel bar were very expensive so we bought bottles of wine in the village and drank them on our terrace.

On a few days we used the hotel’s beach concession. You paid 15 – 18 Euros (rows near the sea were more than the rear rows) a day for 2 beds and a shade. This compared to 15 Euros on the town beach. You didn't pay in cash but used your hotel account card. The area was kept clean and if you left your bed at lunch time the staff came and tided it and cleaned any sand off. The hotel pools were lovely and not crowded and we used them a couple of times but we prefer the beach.

In the reception area you could get one hour of free WiFi each day by asking for a password. No Wifi was available in our rooms.

The whole site was very well looked after and the staff was very friendly. We walked down to Isola Rossa a few times (about 15 minutes away) but there’s not a lot there, just a few minimarkets, bars, and a harbour. If you walk there after dark be warned that there are no footpaths and no streetlights. We took a torch. There were also two good sandy beaches.

We hope to return to this great hotel.

Sardinia had been on our to do list for some time and this holiday didn't disappoint. We wanted peaceful relaxation and that was exactly what the Hotel Marinedda delivered. The hotel is approx. 1.5 hrs coach transfer from Alghero airport. We stayed full board for 1 week in a suite with a sea view. Whilst the room was a very good size im sure a standard room would have been fine and the sea view, whilst nice wasn't really necessity in the end. The rooms are bright and well furnished.

The service at the hotel was faultless. The staff are all extremely friendly. The food was very nice. Breakfast is served by the upper pool area with a good selection. The lunch is a buffet style and the evening meals were a choice between buffet or an a la carte restaurant. For the a la carte you need to book a table at breaksfast. The pool areas are clean with plenty of beds and the pool side bar serves food and very tasty snacks throughout the day. The hotel has its own private beach section approx. 5 mins walk (or the hotel provides a shuttle service!). You can book beds on the beach for a full or half day. We only booked for a half day at a cost of €13 - €15.

The hotel operates a cash free system. You can add credit to a card and then use this to pay for drinks or poolside snacks. The beach beds can be charged direct to you room. In the evening the upper pool area is perfect for views across the bay the hotel overlooks. This offers some beautiful sunsets. Entertainment at the pool consists of live music in the main from 9pm.

The spa at the hotel is quite large. We used the facilities a couple of times and it is recommended. Please note the card system the hotel uses cant be used to pay for treatments and the gym facilities only consist of cardio machines.

The nearby town of Isola Rossa is pretty quiet. We gave it a quick visit as the hotel runs a bus service to the town. There isnt much to see or do in the town to be honest.

Overall i couldnt fault the hotel. It is in a really beautiful location, the staff and food were excellent and it was as peaceful and relaxing a holiday as you could possibly wish for!

We stayed in the Hotel Marinedda for 4 nights during July 2013. This was our second trip to Sardinia but the first time we had visited this area or the Hotel Marinedda. We had such a wonderful time in our first break in Alghero that we wondered whether this would live up to expectations, but it absolutely did!!

The hotel was really very good with 2 very good sized pools on two tiers of the hotel. There was a little bit of sunbed hogging going on (to be expected I suppose) but not too much that you couldn't find a spot. We preferred the upper level pool which seemed to have fewer children / families, which suited us. There are a few restaurants at this hotel - we tried the buffet and the waiter service one. The buffet restaurant served a wide variety of food with a nice atmosphere. The other restaurant was more 'grown up' and allowed you to take longer over your meal. Our only advice is not to sit at the far right as there was a childrens show on at 9pm which somewhat spoiled the ambience as it was right next to the restaurant.

Our room was really very nice, spacious and had everything you needed. We had a room above the kitchen which did result in the room being quite noisy up until about midnight and then from 6am. It didn't trouble me but my husband is quite a light sleeper and was distrubed by it a little. We didn't ask to change rooms but I think they would have accommodated us if we had asked; the service everywhere was great.

We hired a car and we able to explore some of the local coves and beaches. There are some lovely areas just off the beaten track and we really enjoyed having the car.

Overally a really lovely holiday and one that I would not hesitate to recommend

This hotel is very isolated, so when we arrived we were a little worried as if we did not like the food, where would we go!? the town is small and there are not many other choices!

The room we had was a suite, it was tucked away in the grounds and was cottage style. The living room area was basic but the bedroom was lovely. Nice bath and shower. There was a veranda to sit on too.

The restaurant buffet (i detest buffet food) was surprisingly good, the chef could definitely cook! I found the tables a little close together in the buffet and it was busy but still, very good. Anyway, we ate there twice and the other nights in the restaurant. The restaurant was superb. A la carte menu that changed each night, the food was freshly prepared and there was a small buffet at the side should you be too hungry to wait! The selection of wines were good too. We did not have a bad meal in the restaurant, even the risotto was good, not sloppy and overcooked, which is my usual experience of restaurant risotto.

The pool area was clean, fairly large. We did not try the spa as when we arrived, we were told it was at a cost, the cost daily, was equal to our monthly gym membership!

The staff were efficient, non intrusive and helpful.

In a large hotel, there is always a concern with the quality of services, but Marinedda manages that very successfully. We booked half board and were very satisfied with the several options offered. Breakfast was equally very good. There are two pools and beach service (you pay for chaise and parasols, but that's normal in Italy!). The snacks at the pool bar were not very good.
Driving to Costa Smeralda is a must! Do not miss Archipelago Maddalena either. You can take the ferry boat with your car and drive around. Best beaches ever!!
