Hotel Marinedda Thalasso & SPA
Ranked #1 of 4 Hotels in Isola Rossa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 21, 2013

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of June based on the good reviews we had read on Trip Advisor - we were not disappointed!

We stayed in a Relax room, and it was lovely - very spacious. The room - and the hotel in general - looked much nicer than in photos.

Everything - the room, the pools, the beach, the food, the service - was fantastic.

We were travelling without a car, so were happy to find that the hotel ran a series of excursions around the island. Similarly, the town of Isola Rossa is within walking distance of the hotel (about 15-20 mins). However, the town itself really isn't anything to write home about; there are much more interesting, beautiful towns in Sardinia. Nonetheless, we had a wonderful time relaxing in the hotel and enjoying the pools and beaches, and would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly to anyone!

Prior to booking this hotel I carried out extensive research and looked at various comments on Trip advisor.
We normally go for smaller hotels but we decided on this hotel largely on the basis of the very favourable comments on the location, staff and facilities.
Being there for two weeks we decided to go for a superior room and certainly we were glad that we did as we had a magnificent view from our balcony and obviously a bit more space.

So looking at the plus points:
Staff - the staff were absolutely excellent. They were courteous and friendly but also professional. As we selected the waiter service for our evening meal we began to get to know a number of them quite well.
Position - the hotel is on its own and from our room we could see the magnificent coastline and crystal clear blue sea. There are negligible other properties to spoil the view.
Beach - this is really excellent however the sand shelves very quickly so people with young children need to be aware of the potential dangers. The area reserved for hotel guests was kept really clean by the three beach attendants. As soon as you rose from your sun bed these attendants were there brushing off the sand from your bed - I have never seen such attention even in 5 star hotels in the Caribbean!
Meals - as I mentioned we went for waiter service. The food in the evenings was of high quality and in the two weeks I don't think that the menu was repeated.

Next the negatives:
Being built on the slope of a hill comes at a price - there are slopes and steps everywhere. Our room was located reasonably close to the main facilities however if you had a standard room then you might have a steep climb everytime you came back from the pool or from the spa or dining room.
Also not all standard rooms have good views - you might find yourself overlooking the back of the car park.
Hotel reception. In the evening this doubles up as a bar and lounge therefore if the evenings are chilly then there is insufficient seating for the number of guests. Added to that there was usually some form of so called entertainment so the noise level in reception was extensive. In my opinion the reception should be separate from the lounge area
Swimming pool - there are two pools one of which allowed for about 40 people to sit on sun beds. The larger one was designed to accommodate everyone else! This was absolutely full of people. As we like a bit a peace and quiet we gave this area a miss and went for the beach. The hire charge for the beds was worth every euro!
Meals - at breakfast we found that the coffee was very strong and had probably been made quite a while before we arrived. Also we found that you needed to be early to avoid the crowds viz. certainly by 7.30 am.

We did visit the other hotel viz.Torreruja. This looked much more peaceful however the restaurant providing waiter service was only open on really warm evenings.

So lots of positives but unfortunately a number of negatives. Maybe next time we would select one of the other hotels in the group.

This is the perfect place for a 'get away from it all and everyone' break. A complex of ground and first floor chalets set over an extensive area on the hillside, it's incredible so many people are there but are rarely seen except at meal times.
The accommodation is ample though basic and simple but clean, and privacy is maintained due to the way these are scattered all over the place. The floors are tiled so it can be irritating!
I chose this complex for the spa and the treatments available. Both were great and I cannot praise highly enough the competence and professionality of the therapists and would recommend to anyone.
The beach was also the other reason I chose this hotel. Clean and white sand and beautiful clear, clean water. An absolute must for those, like me, who love sea swimming, especially as its too cold to do that in the UK!
My only disappointment was being charged to use the hotel sun beds and brollys, which got more expensive the the hotter it got, and the nearer the sea the more you got charged. I have to admit being disgusted though apparently it is well known.
This appears to be a great place for couples and families but I would not advise single travellers to venture here - each to their own, though!

We are recently back from our Honeymoon at this hotel and we absolutely loved it. Like some of the other recent advisors, we were upgraded from the local Torreruja Hotel and now we are able to compare, we are very glad we were! We had actually looked at the Marinedda and it was out of our price range!
From the arrival, when we were greeted with fresh fruit juice off the coach, to our very last drink at the bar on our last night, the staff were extremely helpful and frequently went above and beyond. We cannot fault the service in any way.
I am vegetarian and on the first night asked one of the chef's if he could assist me, he was extremely helpful, taking time to walk me round the buffet and pointing out everything I could and couldn't eat. He then said if I didn't like the veggie options he would gladly make me another dish. No need, the food was incredible, the choice and standard every night was out of this world. The same chef (Stefano, who actually turned out to be the head chef) walked round with me every night, and on several occasions made me my very own personal meal. Nothing was too much for them. The dessert section was incredible, so much choice, we both left a bit heavier at the end of our fortnight! Breakfast was delicious, and there was a good choice. A special shout out goes to the guys in the bar, Roberto and Giovanni, a brilliant laugh and great service.
As some of the other reviews have said, the hotel is quite isolated, but this is exactly what we wanted and we liked the location. We had done some research into the area before booking and we organised 7days car hire in advance (definitely do it in UK, a lot cheaper, we were £160 for a full weeks hire, the cost of 2 days if doing it at the hotel) We enjoyed a few days chilling out at the start and end of our holiday which was perfect and enjoyed exploring the Island the other 7days.
We were given 3 half days in the spa as we were honeymooning and we thoroughly enjoyed them.
This hotel is perfect if you are looking for somewhere quiet to relax and to use as a base for exploring. It is well situated to explore the north east and west of the island and a good bit inland too. Would love to stay again, though maybe slightly later in the summer, as the weather was a bit mixed the first week though slightly better the second but not great.

Room Tip: Ask for a Sea View.

Could not fault hotel. Staff, food, cleanliness all excellent. Yes, it is a bit isolated but if you do your homework you would know this. The tour operator would do well to recommend car hire at this location. We had a room with sea view and terrace which had sun in the afternoon.

We also booked in to the Torreuja but upon arrival were informed that we had been moved here. We traveled with a baby so the Torreuja was so much more convenient as the terrain was more manageable and location closer to the local amenities. This hotel is a car ride away from the harbour and village(it is a 20 minute walk with no pavement on a bendy main road). The room we was allocated was a sea view room but unfortunately with a baby, the stairs leading to room made it impossible to access with a buggy so requested a change of room, which was promptly dealt with, the second room offered was in need of serious upgrade(huge square tv strapped to the wall, two hospital beds pushed together to make 2 hospital beds, no coffee/tea facility's, musky smelling and damp wardrobes that left all of our clothes damp to wear, loud and usually broken air conditioning unit) it all just felt very dated and a bit like a courtesy room. Given the metal bed posts and the tiled flooring you can hear EVERYTHING above you if your on the ground floor but considering we had Debbie does Dallas above us, the noisy air conditioning was a welcome addition to the room. But the sea view was lovely and we decided to stay in this room as had been a very long day with the early morning flight and 2 hour road transfer which is a long time but the views were stunning and well worth it. Valeria who manages reception was very helpful and understanding to all of our concerns. The weather was very poor during our stay and given how remote this hotel is we were very bored very quickly. But the property itself is beautiful, rosemary growing all around, stunning sea views and brilliant staff, the reception is very welcoming, the bar staff amazingly friendly and the restaurant managers extremely efficient and kind. We opted for half board, breakfast was good but exactly the same every day. The dinner selection was very good, fresh fish, pasta, antipasti etc. The drinks selection was very good and the bar staff are all great. The pools looked nice and clean but it was too cold to go for a dip. I rate this hotel as a 3star, not the 4star+ that it claims but mainly down to the dated rooms, everything thing else about this hotel is very good. I would say its a 4 star resort with 2 star rooms. (I haven't seen a square box tv that big since 1985.) I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families as there isn't enough to do but I would recommend if you like walking, relaxing and soaking up the real sardinia.

Room Tip: Ask for a 1st floor room in the 100's. DON'T ask for a ground floor room in the 400's.

Overall a decent hotel. The staff were excellent, everyone was friendly & helpful but especially the girls at reception who helped us plan our trips.
Good food! Option between a la carte or buffet, we preferred a la carte, but the selection and quality of food in either was good. Buffet a bit too hectic with most people rushing in at 7.30! Breakfast was also buffet but more relaxed and with good selection of usual continental or cooked. To be honest we were so full from the evening meal we didn't want much!
Resort was clean, sun loungers comfy and seemed quiet/relaxed. Our room was a good size & clean, beware of the rock hard mattress and ask for a mattress topper which is a massive improvement. Also watch out for mosquito's, take some repellant.
For us the main problem was location, isola rossa was not a sleepy village gearing up for a summer season. It was dead as a dodo with nothing much there or going in, on Saturday we struggled to find a shop open! If you don't want to leave the hotel its not a problem, if you do it really is an issue. We hired a car from the airport and still found the hotel remote. It was around 1.5 hours drive to aglhero or the islands at the top, 45 mins to st thearsa and 1.45 hours to Porto cerveno. This was going at a decent pace. There is nothing in walking distance and no much that isn't a long drive. We were told car hire at hotel 70 euro a day.
Location aside found it really annoying you had to pay for wifi after the first hour as free wifi is standard in most decent hotels now.
The evening entertainment not my thing but it's a matter of taste, however it's way too loud; we had to shout to talk over it and made a hasty exit after using the wifi each night!
Slight grumbles but easy, and cheap, to sort out.
Overall a good hotel with lovely food and brilliant staff.
