“The best Cannoli we ate in Sicily”

During a day trip in Sicily, we stopped in Piana degli Albanesi for a quick look at this unique city. We went into ExtraBar for a coffee and saw a customer eating a nice looking cannolo. We got one to split but ended up getting another because of how good it was, and we ended up buying local sesame cookies plus four ricotta stuffed fritters.

My husband is always on the quest for the best cannolo, and found it here. They are larger that what you get elsewhere, and the ricotta inside is light and creamy. Just unbelievable. Enjoyed with an espresso, and at it outside overlooking what looked like the town square. So worth the crazy drive we took to get there. You see beautiful scenery on the way.

We were told that the best cannoli's from sicily should be bought in Piana deli Albanesi as they originate from here. So while staying on the island for 9 days we drove up to this small village twice to discover for ourselves.

And yes after our first visit we went back a few days later for a second time. We arrived in the late afternoon and found this small pasticceria at the square. Just like all italians do we just parked the car at an empty space one of the corners along the small square and one of us stepped inside the pasticceria. We wanted to take home this sweet delicacy. My sister inside was even invited to see how the cannoli's were stuffed with the creamy filling. So they were fresh made on request. And how good they are!
But to be honest the best advice to eat the cannoli right away. After a day the pastry dough is not as crispy anymore, which is a pity.
We did eat cannoli's in other parts of sicily but compared to the ones bought here they were small and not as good. It's quite a drive to get there but on arrival awaits a most delicious treat.

Nicolas was very kind and helpful. Our coffee and cannoli were the best in all of Sicily.
You should go there as soon as you can.
