This place was mentioned time and time again in our guide book so we asked our hotel where it was. Thankfully we choose a Tuesday night as they are not open on a Monday, as with many other businesses in the area.
When we arrived there was no one else but were told they were open by the young waiter, and within half an hour our people started to arrive. The owner came out to greet us and lead us across the road to the lakeside dining area. Before he let us sit down he took the time to explain that it was a set menu, changing each day, and that Aubergine was the theme of the day. The views are great, looking out over to Bellagio and Varenna while the sun sets and the villas light up.
What followed were four courses of expert cooking. Simple but well prepared and full of surprises. Who could have guessed you can have Aubergine dessert! Fully satisfied we went inside for the bill. The owner was pleasent and golly as he wrote up the bill telling us he didn't like to charge for drinks which did not have alcohol in them.
