We stayed in Bellagio on Lake Coma for three nights. One of our excursions in Lake Como region was to Villa Carlotta a beautiful 17th century historic structure across from Bellagio in the vicinity of the village of Tremezzo. The Villa which is situated on about 17 acres, faces out on to Lake Como. It has nice Italian fountains and gardens on the grounds. The interior has some sculptures from Carnova and others including Mars and Venus by Luigi Acquisti. The villa gets its name from Princess Carlotta, who received the villa as a wedding gift from her mother in the 1800's.. We spent about an hour here and looked around the at the views of the Alps and Dolomites mountain ranges. The Alps were particularly appealing with Lake Como in the foreground.

Extensive grounds - fabulous for a relaxing, breathtaking stroll, even in the rain! Museum was interesting - most things only labeled in Italian though... Maybe if you purchased a brochure it would give more info. Worth the price of admission for flora and view alone.

Villa carlotta is a must visit if you are in that part of Lake como. you can reach it easily by ferry and spend a couple of hours there. The gardens are fabylous and full of colors and also very well kep. The villa itself may dont seem so interesting especially if you are not in to museum stuff but it is interesting to visit the rooms one by one and read the short stories about each room.

The gardens were a delight - pity that we were a week or two to see the wonderful display of Azaleas etc. But well worth a visit.
