This restaurant is located near to the Hotel La Perla where we spent 3 nights.Food is real italian, with simple ingredients and served by the owner who tries hardly to make his best. His mom and brother are in charge of the kitchen. We simple adored the potato gnocchi, and the fish appetizer.

“the real thing”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

While in Tremezzo, we ate mostly at "local" restaurants since we've found that the food is usually better and cheaper than restaurants in the main tourist areas. Trattoria Rana was no exception. The food was excellent and offered dishes (as specials) that you would not see in your usual Italian restaurants, so it gives you a chance to experiment with flavors. All three of us got something different and shared it, so we really got a "taste of Italy" that night. While this restaurant is not upscale in any way, it is quaint and cozy and friendly. The only things I would caution anyone thinking about eating there are these: do NOT (under any circumstances) try to walk to the restaurant unless you are staying very close by---the walk is straight uphill and a real killer. We started to walk since our map made it look like it wasn't that far, but we then had to go back and get our car. Needless to say, the views from the restaurant are absolutely stunning. Second, when they say they have "parking," don't take that too literally. There is room for about 5 cars max. We got there early, so we didn't have to make anyone move in order to leave, but I can see that happening very easily. Finally, make reservations in advance if at all possible. We got there at 6:30 PM but had to eat indoors since the tables outside were reserved for other guests, and even at 7 PM guests without reservations were being turned away.

“Lovely little place, great welcome!”
Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

So from the first minute we were there, the warm welcome, and the really lovely atmosphere had me and my husband feeling really chilled out and comfortable. When the host then brought us the most amazing pumpkin gnocchi with butter, cheese and crispy sage that I've ever tasted, we were totally smitten. And after wine, water, 2 starters, 2 amazing mains, 2 desserts - (oh the panna cotta!), and a coffee, getting a bill of only 57 euros was the icing on the cake. This restaurant completely won us over. Be warned though, if you're walking, the hill there is steep and long. The location map on here only shows a quarter of how far up the road it is...

Local restaurant used by the locals out of the main tourist area. Simple food well cooked at very reasonable prices. If you are on a budget this is for you.

“Simple yet great food at Rana”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Very nice "local" style trattoria. Food is simple yet very well prepared and home made. The view from the balcony is nothing short of faboulous
Very kind and welcoming service
Highly recommendable - and a nice alternative to some of the "tourist traps" in the Tremezzo area
