“Tired staff after a day of local celebrations”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

Bacco has an incredible view over the Bay of Salerno. We enjoyed prompt service, almost to the point of being rushed, likely due to visiting on the day of first communion, a huge religious family celebration. We ordered and were served very well prepared al dente spaghetti with fresh cherry tomatoes, olive oil and basil as an entree. My husband and I shared a salad of heirloom tomatoes, the first we had seen on the Amali coast, with mozzarella balls and more fresh basil, olive oil and balsamic served aside to apply as one pleases. My husband had the fruit de mer with spaghetti. There was exactly one mussel and 6 small clams, cherry tomatoes, and olive oil. We had each had this dish at other restaurants in the area and it is usually loaded with shellfish. The good news..the bill was only 49 euros for 2 including a bottle of regional Furore red wine. I would try this restaurant again,on a non-holiday night based on other reviewers as it is likely the festivities of the day translated into a tired staff and a less than well stocked kitchen.

“A very sad misunderstanding”
Reviewed April 17, 2012

I have booked a winetasting with Marisa Cuomo 4 monthes ago.
They explained me that the tasting in itself will take place in their attached restaurant "Bacco", mainly because they don't have a license for that in the cantina in itself (first strange feeling).
They sent me two menus with the wines included (45 & 65 euros), the first one offering 4 wine to taste, the other one 6.
The Marisa Cuomo cantina makes plenty of different wines, and, as a winemaker myself, i wanted to taste them all before making my choice on which bottles i would bring back home.
I explained that to the person in charge of the visit there, that i wanted to taste those wines in a "normal condition", which means no food, and really small samples. After many mail and phone exchanges, she finally understood my request, and told me there will be no problem for a free tasting.
I told her that we will have lunch in Bacco after the tasting, as this restaurant looked to be well noted in many reviews.
After the visit of the cantina, we arrive there, and things started to get weird. The waiter seemed to have no idea of how a tasting should happen. But the worse was that they handed us a "tasting menu" where every wine was listed with a price for a glass (from 4 to 8 euros per glass !!!!). I've tryed to explain them that we were there to TASTE, and not to drink (the price was indeed for a full glass, we just wanted a sip).
Thrre attempts to get a bucket to spit out the wine.
Then we had lunch, that was OK, but nothing special, disapointement with the reputation of the place (Michelin recommandation should go to many other places on the Amalfi coast other than that place). The service and the ambiance was particularly cold, like having a lunch in a railstation hall.
But the worst was coming when the bill came with all the wine tasted charged at the "normal menu" rate, even if we had a sip (the guy explained that he had to open the bottles for us, which was a lie excpet for one: the bottle he poored wine were not full, and even, those bottles would be used for other tasting anyway. So we had to pay approx 60 euros for a wine tasting...
This is the moment where they explained us that the restaurant was not attached to the wine cantina (how convinient !): easy to reject on each other the fault of that "misunderstanding"
We finally paid the bill, with no real offer from the staff of a compromise (they just didn't charged the last glass), with a deep fealing of rip-off.
I don't want that review sounds so bitter, but I will add that, even if you're not interested in the wine tasting, there's plenty of better place around to eat on the Amalfi Coast, like in Nocelle for exemple.

“Beautiful Restaurant, Fabulous Food and Wine”
Reviewed April 15, 2012

After touring Marissa Cuomo winery, we walked across the street to Bacco where we had reservations for the degustation (7 course) menu for $65E each. The decor is beautiful with whimsical artwork and various collections scattered throughout. But the food and wine are the truly beautiful parts of the experience.

The initial cheese plate was the very best we had in all of the Amalfi Coast . . .the goat cheese with red pepper flakes and scallions is to die for! All courses were exceptional, and wines paired perfectly with them. We also voted their tiramisu the best of our entire trip.

I would highly recommend this restaurant, and it is even more special if you have toured the winery first.

This place was recommended by the Furore Inn and the food was very good. Friendly service. If you don't have a car and you're not staying at the hotel you will need a driver to take you and pick you up, and that significantly increases the bill;however the restaurant's prices are very reasonable.
