“First trip to Amalfi coast.”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Agree with everything said by NPH7.
In short this Hotel made our first visit to Amalfi quite simply the best holiday possible.
My wife keeps telling me I'm looking for perfection when staying in a hotel and that's exactly what I found at the Belvedere.
This Hotel oozes with traditional old world charm and elegance and totally fulfilled my expectations.
Will definitely be returning next year as so many visitors seem to do.

Room Tip: Do what I did and ask Daniela what's the best room available.

I can't say too much that hasn't been said before - particulary by NPH7. We had a fantastic time having done some research looking into where was the best place to stay on the Amalfi Coast. We couldn't have found anywhere better to celebrate a special occasion. The staff were fantastic and we had a great week (despite the weather being dreadful the last 2 days). Everyone we met seemed to have been there many times before which we thought was a great advert. As a result we feel we must join them and return - already looking at next year but if not 2013 definately 2014.

Room Tip: We had a Junior Suite which gave us a nice seating area but can't say what the other rooms were...

If you travel to the Belvedere by road your journey will have taken in beautiful stunning scenery no matter what route you follow. Enter the cool reception of the hotel and you will meet the first of the marvellous, helpful staff members that will make your visit memorable. Behind the desk you will be met by Getano, Daniela and Lucia during the daytime or if you arrive late, by Franco the night manager who sports the most magnificent moustache and who we first met in 1999. Whoever greets you they will welcome you to the hotel with justifiable pride and help you with travel and other arrangements. This family run hotel is opperated by Antonio who keeps a close eye on the running of his hotel and manages to maintain a consistent high standard through the years.

We return regularly to the Belvedere for the magic of its location in the cliffs overlooking the Gulf of Salerno and Amalfi. The rooms are clean, well maintained and open to terraces and sea views.
Breakfast is usually served on the high level terrace adjacent to the main restaurant. This may be the first time you meet the restaurant staff, many have worked at the hotel for years and will look after you very well. This marveless team is headed by Bepe, the extremely charming and amusing restaurant manager, assisted by Onofrio and supported by Fulvio, his brother Andrea, Raffaeue, Nando and several others. This will be a perfect start to your day, wether you have a continental breakfast or something cooked (for a modest supplement) while drinking in a scene with mountains running down to the sea and boats moving back and forth below you.

If you can drag yourself away from this stunning situation to explore Amalfi or visit the many delights of the area, the hotel operates a people carrier into Amalfi driven by Luigi. Luigi will drive you down to to the harbour area where boats and busses link to other destinations including Capri and Possitano. Most days at the Belvedere you will feel too relaxed to go far. So it's down to the swimming pool, here you will meet two more of the wonderful Belvedere team, Antonio and Vincenzo. The pool is set below the hotel accessed by lift or zig zagging steps. The pool is filled with seawater, surrounded by a large terrace with ample sun loungers, tables and chairs and plenty of shade if required, with abundant clean towels. Antonio and Vincenzo will look after you throughout the day providing tea, coffee, soft drinks, wine and beer. At lunch time they prepare snacks, salads and sandwiches, all delivered to you at the poolside. Below the pool another flight of steps lead down past the toilets and shower to a small dock providing a further sunbathing and swimming area on the edge of the Mediterranean.

Whatever you have spent your day doing, the en-suite bathrooms provide powerful showers to refresh you for the evening. Before dinner visit the bar and terrace. Buona-Ventura the chief barman is another star member of the Belvedere team ably supported by Andrea. Buona-Ventura is accomplished at producing stunning cocktails, as well as mainstream drinks. When you stay at the hotel for a second time he will have stocked up with your prefered tipple and serve you with great curtesy and charm.

After relaxing over your drinks, it's time to eat again. Dinner is served in the main restaurant. Bepe will take great pleasure in describing the menue of the day, describing the origins and ingredients of each dish prepared from fresh local produce. The wine list is modestly priced for an hotel and offers both local and regional wines. As the sun sets you will be treated to twinkling lights from Amalfi and on various occasions celebratory fireworks in the mountains abouve. The restaurant staff all offer attentive service, filleting fresh fish at your table and keeping your wine topped up. After a selection of local sweats from the trolley enjoy a cocktail on the terrace taking in more of the view.

The situation of the Belvedere, combined with excellent food, attentive and outstandingly frendly staff, comfortable bedrooms serviced by excellent chambermaids and large swimming pool all combine to make our stays over a number of years a repeat delight and high point in our year.

Having just driven down from Rome, the outside of the hotel is deceiving from the road as most of it is below, but once inside the welcoming reception you know you are going to enjoy your stay. Our room had the most stunning view overlooking the sea and the Amalfi coastline. The breakfast terrace is the perfect place to start your day as that too overlooks the same. There is a large swimming pool and sun terrace (reached by a lift/elevator) and drinks/snacks served all day. The restaurant can work out expensive if you're not on a half board option, but the local restaurants have a free pick up service. The hotel also runs a shuttle bus down to Amalfi Town - I wouldn't recommend trying to walk as the roads are narrow and there's a lot of traffic. We also went on a boat trip from the hotel jetty over to Capri which was excellent, although not for anyone with mobility problems as it's a lot of steps back up to the hotel on your return!

My mother's 10th trip over a 20 year period and my third and another unqualified success! You cannot fault the staff (who are the same every year - a sign of good employers!) on their kindness and care; the fact they have known my mother for so long means that now she is older and needs assistance, they really care for her. And everythign else is great too, rooms, pool, meals, views - I expect to be going for years too. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting a hotel with old-fashioned values of service and simplicity.

we stayed at this hotel at beginning of august for our friends wedding in nearby ravello. What can i say...first of all we arrived late almost midnight after a delay at naples airport, we were met by the night porter who took us to our small but incredibly clean room. He then told us to go up to the restaurant where he provided us with some food, salad and a selection of cold meats. We purchased a bottle of prosecco which was 22 euros but it was well deserved after the delay at naples airport. The next day we were up at 6.30 am to get ready for breakfast at 7 so we could leave for the 7am bus to amalfi to get to ravello for the rehersal. Dont get me wrong breakfast was nothing fancy but the muesli and croissants were brilliant and you could pay for a selection of hot stuff if u didnt fancy the cold included food.

We looked around the hotel it was immaculate, maybe dated slightly but in keeping with the other accommodation we were lucky enough to stay in for our week stay. The pool was down loads of steps but I took the lift. The pool guys obviously had been there for years but couldnt do enough for you.

Il be honest had it not been for the fact we were going for a wedding i would never have gone to italy or amalfi I always stereotyped it as being for the more older discerning client, I travel india and love ibiza but i have to say i couldnt recommend it enough.

The downsides, its 4km away from amalfi, cheap on a bus but in a taxi 35 euros, airconditioning could be more powerful and maybe its a little quiet for my tastes. However get the bus, get to amalfi and get up to the beautiful ravello it blew my mind. You can visit the gardens at villa cimbrone and take the walk down to the belvedere to see the amazing views. you can almost see the curve of the earth you are that high up. Now i was lucky enough to stay for 1 night at villa cimbrone but that was dated in furnishings. Now in my opinion I think that this adds to the quaintness of italy, everything is old and thats why its so charming.

Back to the hotel belvedere...well its got parking if you fancy driving, its not that bad, 1 of our friends drove from the uk to meet us for the wedding and he was fine. Its called the belvedere for a reason the amazing views.

If you want my advice Id stay there, I thought it was good, really good, oh and 1 last thing the food in the restaurant at night was beautiful, the service a little formal-silver service, I really liked that but my partner who wore long shorts and was fine wasnt too keen on but we both agreed the food was fabulous.

Finally I dont think Ive anything bad to say about this holiday apart from it annoyed me it was sunny everyday and I dont like the sun. Lol ;-)

The location as a base for trips at the Italien riviere is perfect! And the swimming pool- salty clean water, panorama from beautiful cliff facing the sea!! We really felt like having a great vacation and loved every minute there, even though it passed to fast!!! Great manager- 3rd generation to run the family hotel!
