We were 2 families that stayed at mikri poli for two weeks this august consisting of 4 adults and 3 children aged 11, 6 and 6. We all enjoyed this lovely relaxing holiday and were pleased that we chose mikri poli above the other all inclusive hotels in kolymbia. It was busy when we were there as obviously the height of school holidays, but as the complex is so large, it never really seemed to crowded. The weather was amazingly hot (around 40c+ each day), but it was eased by a gently breeze most days.

Location - Mikri poli is about 30 mins by taxi from the airport-the standard charge for a taxi transfer is 37 euros each way.the hotel is on the outskirts of kolymbia on the main road to the town and is only a 5-10 min walk into the centre along a road that doesn't have an official pathway, so would recommend a torch for evening walks. The centre of kolymbia is bigger than i imagined following reviews on this website, and consisted of many touristy shops and a few bars that became quite busy and lively at night. There is also a pharmacy and 2 cashpoints in the town.

Hotel- The mikri poli was one of the smartest hotels that we saw in the town. It is a very modern fronted building facing out onto the beach. There are a few beach front apartments, yet these are on the other side of the road, and we personally felt that with children, it wasn't ideal to have to cross the road every time you wanted to pop over to the hotel for its facilities. We had a room overlooking the 2nd pool which was lovely. It seemed such a luxury to be in greece and have a lovely modern room with powerful bath/shower, modern plumbing (!) and plentiful hot water. The rooms were serviced every day apart from sunday and we were pleased with the cleanliness of our room. The reception team were helpful in phoning local excursion operators for us. We only did one excursion which was the glass bottom boat to lindos. We had such a brilliant day on the fastest. boat we had been on, swimming at some amazing beaches

Food-
This was one of the main reasons why we narrowed down to this hotel as we wanted to eat and enjoy good, greek food. We were not disappointed and enjoyed all of our meals from freshly cooked pasta, griddled meats for lunch and dinner and a wealth of salads, meats, vegetables and daily freshly baked breads of all shapes and sizes. Breakfast included, hot items, continental selections and freshly cooked pancakes with yummy chocolate sauce! The restaurant is large and we didn't struggle to find a table, although it was much busier and almost unpleasant between 7-8.30pm as it seemed so rushed and stressy. We went after 8.15 and by this time, found an outside table and had a lovely relaxing meal feeling like we could be in a restaurant. The food is cleared away at 9.30pm sharp, but this was never an issue for us.

Pools/bars -
There is a main large pool where the entertainment is based and plays music for most of the day. It is also shallow at one end with water fountains etc. The childrens pool is just up from this and has a couple of slides and another toddler pool. We preferred the pool by our apartments which is where the second pool bar is. It is approx 150cm deep with no shallow end, but is quieter and much more calm than the main pool. Popi's bar (as our children nicknamed it) was lovely and popi was always friendly and smilling. This pool was quite difficult to get sunbeds at though, but it was nice to get an earlier start in the morning (7.30am) and enjoy the sun and swimming before it got busier. The main pool had sunbeds available until about 9am, although they are quite close together and the pool area there gets very wet which makes it very slippery and quite dangerous. The blue moon bar is lovely for a pre meal evening drink and was always quiet and easy to get a seat overlooking the beach when we arrived around 7pm.
Entertainment-
The entertainment team work so hard and although it is german based, the shows catered for english people too. My 6 yr old was made to feel very welcome in the kids club on the occasions that she did go, and they always translated everything to english for her even though there were no other english children there. As one of the team said, with children, language is often not a barrier.

Cons -
-We hired swimming towels, but found that you need to guard them with your life as they seem to be stolen by other guests on a regular basis - the hotel put up a sign that says not to reserve sunbeds which seems to be a disclaimer if your towel is stolen over lunch time as they were not interested when we reported this.
-we had read that sunbeds on the beach were free, but they tried to charge 4 euros per bed on the mikri poli side even when we explained we were guests.
- the beach is not the most attractive beach i have been on, very stoney and painful to walk on. Futher round to the right of the harbour is a much nicer beach with clearer water where the main area of a/i hotels are based.

In conclusion, a fantastic hotel and if only was on a better beach, we would def return again!!

We stayed here for a week and we enjoyed this nice resort with excellent food. Hat off for hotel management, it is well managed hotel with great service. Staff is international and very professional. There were mainly German animators, but some of their entertaiment programs were performed partly in English, which was nice. Kolymbia town is reachable by foot in 5-10 minutes. The only think we did not like at all was a hotel beach, most of time we enjoyed pools inside resort. There is beautiful Tsambika beach, it's must see place, although it is few kilometers away from the hotel. The most easily reachable from Kolymbia center by taking taxi (10EUR) or by a rented car.

I have arrived home from a 2 week holiday to Mikri Poli and I have to say it was easily the best all round hotel I have stayed at so far. I went with my boyfriend both of us are in our 20's and we enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The price we paid made this hotel fantastic value for money when booking via teletext holidays.

The Good bits
5 pools - all were kept clean and was great to jump into when it was 42 degrees!
4 bars - usually quick service (except when wanting an ice cream but that was due to the heat everyone wanted one)
The food, there was a massive selection of always fresh and tasty food and I am a fussy eater and not once could i not fill a plate.
The staff (they all speak english and are so polote and helpful
Private bit of beach which provide free sunbeds.

The bad bits
There was only 2 plugs in your room, one for the fridge and one for the tv so take an extended plug.

Warnings:
The a la carte restraunt (lo spuntino) was shut during our stay which was disappointing but put on a greek BBQ instead that was beautiful.
Sunbeds did fill quickly around main pool but you can always get one either at the very furthest at the back of the complex or on the beach.
Watch out for sitting on the wrong half of the beach as if you sit on the left near the water sports cabin this is not a part of Mikri polis beach and you will be charge 8euro for two loungers and a parasol.
The main food hall is upstairs, not the pool house. This can become busy between 9am - 9.45am for breakfast and 7.45pm - 8.30pm for your evening meals but if you avoid these times you will be fine.

The hotel in detail:
The room:
We stayed in room 528 and it had everyting we needed (bar enough plug sockets) all the beds are single beds pushed together to make a double but were very comfy, were changed 6 out of 7 days and had optional extra bedding. The room was air conditioned which was great. had a small terrace with a table two chairs and an ashtray and a was lovely to sit at in the evening before dinner. Had a full size dressing table and stool and mirror which was very handy. TV had approx 30 channels, one english news channel, one polish music channel but 80% of the songs were up to date english songs and one was greek but was english dialect with greek subtitles so easy to watch (this usually had american sitcomes on so was great to hve on whilst getting changed, etc). 3 channels that you can watch may not be many but lets face it we dont go to a beautiful country to sit and watch the television now do we! The bathroom was great had a huge mirror, full sink area for cosmetic storage. a bath and a shower combined, the only thing that wasn't great was the hair dryer provided, but again this is usually the case so always take my own. The room was clean and near enough fully equpped.

The food
The food was easily the best food I have tased out of all the all inclusive holidays I have experienced. You could tell all of it was so fresh, it was truely a breath of fresh air compaired to some I have expreienced! There was always spag bol available which was really tasty and you couldnt find anything else you liked (however in the whole of 2 weeks not once did ~I have to do this as the food was beautiful) There is a yhuge selection of fresh salad, including greek salad (which was so tasty I couldn't get enough of it). For Breakfast there is a chef that is cooking fresh pancakes and in the evening he cooks fresh meat infront of you, which i thought was a lovely touch. The do a full wibne lish should you become fed up of the free all inclusive drinks. They also have a wide selection of deserts for dinner time and for the evening meal also. Finally there are two seperate parts one being a small childrens buffet and the heathy eaters corner, so fussy eating kids and people who are looking after there figure are specifically catered for too, what more could you ask for? I cannot explain how very impressed I was with the food, it truely was fantastic!

The Bars / Drinks
The main bar (Blue moon) situated opposite the main reception is open 6pm - 2am. It is run by two very friendly bar tenders George and Kristof. who are very quick servers and always deliver your drinks with a smile. Your all inclusive drinks can be used up until 11pm then there is a small charge until 2am. 2 euro for a beer or wine or 2.50 euro for a cocktail. (cocktails are alway this price as are not included within your all inclusive). All house brands are free of charge but you can choose from a huge selection premium brands at a charge (this is the same in all bars). The bar consists of a fairly sized indoor and outdoor seating areas where you can see out to the beach and towards Kolymbia centre. Also there is a large LCD TV screening mainly sports events. In an evening in any of the outdoor areas ensure you have insect repellant as you will most definatley need it! The pool side (Refresh bar) is very rarely busy during the day or night except when the icecreams are being served but if you weant a drink, you will be served during these times just as quickly. This bar is open 10.00am - 23.00pm. There is a third bar at the pool area that is near the back of the resort which I am unsure of the opening times (I think it is 10.00am - 18.00 but cannot be certain which is also never busy. Finally there is a self serve bar on the beach that opens at 11.00am but unsure at its closing time. Also did not once see this area too busy. so great service at all bars. One thing to bare in mind is the beer that is under the all inclusive is very weak, i cannot comment on the wine as I only managed to have one glass due to allergys but it tasted nice. The cocktail I had (I tried all off the blue moon menu) were lovely but yet some were lacking in the measures of alchol but all were beautiful tasting and refreshing. We were very impressed with all the bars.

The pools
All 5 pools were clean, and refrehing to jump into in the weather we experienced. They were busy but what can you expect in 42 degree heats! The main pool has a shallow end and a deep end so is suitable for all ages. This is where the 1-2-fly animations team are situated that put on daily activitys for German and English. I will touch on these more later in my review. There are plenty of sunloungers that are around this area but are taken up very quickly bu this is the same for all pool areas (including the childrens pool) except for the one that is situated right at the bad of the resort, or the on on the beach. There is a pool that is also situated with all the sea veiw suites but could never work out if this was exclusivly for these suites or could be used by all guests. Ensure you check your map (that is on the back of your welcome pack envalope) for the pool locations as it took us a whole week to work out there was a 5th pool hidden at the back of the complex which i think maybe why there is always free sunbeds around it.

The Animations Teams
In Mikri Poli there are 2 animations teams 1-2-fly and viloratour club. The 1-2-fly club is for Germans mainly but they also translate everything to English also! As you will have read in other reviews that English are very sparce in Mikri Poli but they ensure that we are catered for for childrens clubs and for the evening shows (as mentioned they will say it firstly in German then repeat it in English) The viloratour club is for the Italian guest which I didn't get to experience much of so can't honestly comment on these! Boh clubs ran activitys from 10am - 5pm including childrens and adults activitys and nearly every night had a show on in both ampitheaters. Be aware if your room is near ampitheater 2 (italian shows) they can go on until very late and can be noisy at times.

The Beach

The Mikri poli beach is great place to relax as tere are refreshments nearby, has music playing and has a watersports hut on it too that has some excellent activitys. These are not however included in your all inclusive but are great fun and well worth a go. The breach is half sand half pebble so make sure you take waterproof shoes if you want to swin in the sea.

Local Area / Transport
The local area of Kolymbia is much geared towards familys so dont be disappointed if you pick this area and you are looking to be a bit roudy (you are best to either look for a hotel in Faliraki or get the bus / taxi there as it is only a 15min journey. As it is a family based resort it can be slightly on the quiter side, but does have a selection of bars, tavera's and cocktail bars that have entertainment such as kareoke nights so its worth a 10min walk up the road to see these. Kolymbia has endless number of souvineer shops and Zeus supermarket also. There is a cash machine that is 20min walk for the hotel and also a taxi rank which you can order to the hotel or walk 10mins to get to. Transport can be tricky to pick depending on your budget. We used all of them so hopefully our experience will help you make the correct choice for you. We chose to hire a car for a week from the hire company in the hotel. We were quoted 35 euros - 80 euros a day (depending on the car we chose - we hired a Toyota Yaris which was on of 35euro a day cars) including all insurace and damage waivers, but as we booked this for a week we were given 7days for the price of 5 which was brilliant. You have to provide your own fuel under this price also, there is a petrol station approx 10min drive from the hotel. Everything from the hire company was fantastic and was completely flawless. Unfortunatly that is where th8is cinderella story ended as driving in Rhodes I found was absoutley awful! I have been driving for 3 and a half years and the 2 days I managed to have the nerve to drive were the worst 2 of my driving experience. This was not due to the controls being the opposite to Englands, I managed to pick this up rather quickly, it was due to the other drivers on the roads. The drivers were very impatient (despite me being approximatley 20km per hour over the speed limit) they would attempt to overtake on bends, when there was oncomming traffic and the worst I saw was 4 cars overtaking at the same time whilst there was oncoming traffic. Also there are in some places no safety barriers and there is not enough road space for two cars. For all these reasons I would suggest if you are going to rent a car, if you are nervous in England just dont bother trying as it is 10 times as bad over there and if you are a confident driver ensure you take care as the accident rate in Rhodes is extremely high and after my experience I can see why. We used the taxi services a couple of occations and they were very good, however could be slightly pricey (but no more expensive than you would expect in England) but would get you exactly where you wanted to go for a set price. Finally there is a bus service that runs from outside the hotel to all main tourist area's (Rhodes town, Lindos, Tsambika beach, Prassonissi, etc) for a reasonable price - 3.50euro to Rhodes town and Lindos 2 euro to Tsambika beach and 8 euro to Prassonissi per person each way. The main bug bear with the buses however was the lateness of them, for morning buses they could run between 15mins late up to an hour late and the same in an evening but they always did turn up eventually, they could also be very crowded in a morning however due to the price did not mind too much.

Finally to sum up we both had an amazing time in Mikri Poli and would definatley recommend it to anyone as it is so far the best hotel we have had the pleasure to experience!

Just returned from a week at the Mikri Poli in Rhodes, the hotel is immaculate and the staff work flat out to maintain the hotels areas, lovely and clean, great rooms, and facilities. Pool areas great ,although it is difficult to get a sunbed, most of them are taken quite early on, the majority of guests are German and Italian, this was fine with us but if you need a kids club it could be a challenge as most of the kids are not English.
Food was plentiful and really great quality , minimal queues, we enjoyed the food as there was lots of variety and really tasty choices.
The local area of Kolymbia was a tad boring! I really hate to say this!, Im a Greece fan through and through but... beach side atmosphere was not so good, we walked along the beach to enjoy a drink at a taverna and were told we had to order food or go!, this Taverna was empty at the time, didn't make good business sense to me, and was very unlike the Greek hospitality i have been used to.
Overall we really enjoyed out stay, The hotel we cannot fault, we as a family just needed a little more choice for the evening entertainment.

Approximately 25 mins from Rhodes airport, 37 Euros for a taxi (easy to get one right outside the airport and the prices are fixed so no risk of you getting ripped off!). Kolymbia apparently is a very new resort (roughly 10-12yrs old) so all the hotels round there are pretty modern. Mikri Poli really is a stunning hotel. The food is fantastic (I travelled with 3 kids aged 14,10 and 7) who all like different foods but they were all morethan happy with the selection here. The pools and grounds are really well maintained, maid service every day, the staff are so friendly and helpful too. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and the buses run north to Rhodes town or south to Lindos (we took this trip, 10 euros for me and 3 kids). The buses are actually coaches with fantastic air conditioning so the journey is really enjoyable and the views spectacular. Mikri Poli's beach wasnt really up to much, all shingle and stone and kind of looked unfinished. They charge for sun loungers and its not a great beach for kids. Tsambika beach is only 2 euros on the bus and apparently a beautiful sandy beach (though we didnt get round to going there) and Lindos beach is amazing. We spent a whole day there, a little stoney for a couple of feet going into the water but the rest was lovely soft sand. There is plenty of room on the free sun loungers around Mikri Poli, quiet areas if thats what you prefer, or busier areas around the kids pools. The only downside I could find with this hotel is the overwelming number of German guests. In a hotel holding 270 guests, the 4 of us were the only English. It's a little intimidating if you let it get to you, but the staff there love us English!! :) All in all we had an amazing holiday and the all inclusive nature of our stay definitely made it great value for money.

My husband and I stayed in Mikri Poli for a week in September. We truly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is more like a holiday complex with small houses and with four large swimming pools, located in different areas around the complex. This was really nice especially for those guests who wanted to have some quiet time rather than being at the central pool where all the entertainment takes place. The food was excellent and with great variety. The staff extremely friendly and helpful. The only things we liked less were the hard beds in the room and the very noisy restaurant.
In contrary to the other reviews, we loved the location. We rented a car at the reception and we were offered a car with a very reasonable price. Kolymbia is a great place to stay if you want to explore the island in all directions and there are less tourists. We particularly liked the south east part of the island. The most beautiful sandy beach of the Island is called Tsambika which is only 5 minutes drive from the hotel. It has a huge stretch of sandy beach which was not so crowded when we were there. The beach is stunning, the sea is crystal clear, one of the most beautiful beaches we have seen in Greece.
We have had a great holiday in Rhodes en in Mikri Poli. We highly recommend this hotel to everybody and we would return to this hotel.
