Stayed for a week in early October and loved every minute of it. Chose this particular resort as the weather was likely to better in October than the Med and the fact that the complex was only a couple of years old. Stayed in a holiday village for the first time last summer (see Holiday Village Viva review) so we had good idea as to the set up but we were totally made up when we arrived at the Rhodes village as it knocked spots off last years holiday. We opted to stay in the deluxe area and we did hesitate at the time as to whether it was likely to be worth the £450/500 extra over a normal family swim up room in the relax area. Once we arrived though we would have paid the extra just for the privilege of eating in the separate al la carte restaurant and avoiding the mad scramble for food that we experienced on last years first experience! Even eating with our 3 year old was a pleasure this time. Kids menu stayed the same all week so no surprises re choices available (although chicken nuggets were scary!!) think I only had one naff main meal all week and the remainder was lovely, portions small but nice none the less. Was nice to have a waiter etc to take orders / serve drinks at the table so made breakfast & dinners far more relaxing. The additional themed nights in either the Italian or Greek restaurants also were much better than last year, proper places to eat as opposed to just roped off areas of the main buffet restaurant. We only had time to sample the Italian, 5 courses left us feeling well & truly stuffed - Lovely. In fairness though the main buffet restaurant in the main complex was also very nice, we would go here for lunch most days. Large covered outdoor area was nice to eat in & helped it not feel canteen like, set up also seemed a lot more calm as well, perhaps it was just the clientele this time that made the difference!?
Room wise, the swim up deluxe family room was great, we also had the added advantage of having a hot tub (there appeared only to be tub in each block of 6 so added bonus for us as we didn't ask for it. It was great for our little boy (3 yrs) as he was just as happy to play in the tub as go in the pool, which also meant we could relax on the loungers on the patio and pop indoors as & when. Downside though was that like the pool the tub was not 'hot' / heated and the jets were controlled by reception, they were timed to come on and you could call them up to get it switched off or turned back on again. We soon realised better to have off all the time as made so much noise you couldn't hear yourself think & once we discovered anyway that it was not heated the novelty for us adults wore off! The rooms have a half level secondary patio door which can only be opened from the outside so good safety measure to stop the kids running out to the pool / patio unaccompanied. Our little one doesn't even wear arm bands but at no time did we feel concerned re being on ground level with a pool directly on your patio. Being a family room we had a sliding wood / glass partition which separated our sons sleeping area from ours, & whilst the main room was not huge (unlike the bathroom!?) the finish was excellent together with the beds / bedding which can normally leave a lot to be desired! We forgot to book a late check out when we booked the holiday originally as had a night flight, once we arrived the rep advised better to use one of the hotel's comfort rooms for a 30min slot on the day you leave to freshen up as opposed to another EUR 90.00 that the hotel would have charged for you to keep your room for the rest of the day. This worked well for us, checkout is midday, managed to drag that out almost another hr without anyone chasing us, chilled round the pool for the pm, used room at 5pm and got picked up at 7pm so could have been worse and saved some EUR's!
As with last year entertainment was first class, in particular for the kids with I 5Live shows, and the kids club entertainment also looked first class (not that our little one was having any of it being left there!)...
This is not a cheap holiday, and looking at same time next year + with a free child place which we didn't get this year we are looking at £700+ again on top of this years price which works out very punchy, but we've been somewhat spoilt now so tough one as to where to go next. As per
previous comments surrounding area is the only downside to the resort, really nothing going on
in the surrounding area & beach looked very grim, probably all made worse though due to it coming up for end of season, but this didn't bother us as had to many nice things keeping us in the 'village', and by all accounts there were some lovely beaches a short cab ride away.
Great time had by all!!
