“Good Holiday”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

Totally agree with thomasjrennie review below. My husband and I were there the same week and we did have a great time but this is not a 4 star hotel, however it does have potential. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was ok but the food was certainly a bit of a disaster! Thankfully we were not present on the pork belly and fish night as we had went a day trip to Turkey but we heard all about it on our return.

We did like the fact that it is a smaller hotel and it did have a nice friendly and relaxed atmosphere. There are certain aspects that I will not comment on we are currently awaiting a reply from Olympic and feel that it would be unfair to make any further statements at this time

I have waited to write my review as I have been in contact with both Secret Escapes and Olympic. I have had a reply from Secret Escapes and a letter from Olympic stating that they will be in contact within 28 days.

Just returned from an enjoyable week at the hotel and found it to be good value for money we paid through secret escapes. Agree with previous reviews that to list it as a 4star is a bit excessive as it was probably neerer a 3star hotel, but you have to make allowances as the grading system in greece is somewhat erratic most of the time.
Food was good and plentiful on our visit although does seem a bit sami at times but this was no more than we expected when you have to cater for several nationalities three times a day, you are never going to please everyone all of the time.
Room we had was spacious but was not as clean as we would have liked and the shower cubicles are very small. Staff were a great asset as all were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Overall thought for price it was good value and would visit again

The hotel was updated a few years ago but many of the rooms still have problems. We had a family room which was lovely and spacious but the bathroom really let it down. The little tiles were missing the shower was tiny and door missing the floor got soaked every time we showered. The shower pressure is terrible. The shelfs and hair drier etc had obviously fallen off the wall before and have been replaced lower so you can see where it was originally. Seal around the shower was black and mould spots. So glad we weren't in there much anyway. Not much variety of food at all. People constantly asking the waitress for more food. I think they need to have someone who just does this as a job. Maybe some who also gets your drinks at the dinner table too!
No towels at the pool area! Which I would expect of a 4 star. The bar area was lovely and everyone friendly. The Main Street of shops and bars are about 15/20 min walk but it's one straight road.
Make sure you take beach shoes as the sand or stones which ever Beach u choose is red hot under foot. Over all a nice hotel but I don't see how Olympic sell it as a 4 star + hotel more of a 3.

First, I want to be clear that I very much enjoyed this holiday and the hotel. I don't want to come across too negative, but there's a few things I would have liked to know before booking.

THE HOTEL

The place looks great on arrival, and the reception, eating area, pool, bar and gardens are very pleasing. There are some nice sofas and a garden to look at near the front which is a good place to sit in the early evening. Staff are friendly and as helpful as they needed to be, reception was good and they did their best to deal with things in a friendly and expedient manner. The Olympic Holidays Reps were very 1990s though, with the one assigned to the hotel distinctly average (review questionnaires and flight details were posted to us without ANY details on, just blank spaces).

We stayed in the new apartments built a 2 minute walk from the main hotel reception. We were the first to stay there, and they were not actually finished when we arrived (there was some painting, finishing, furniture jobs to be done [installing the fridge]). However, after about 30 minutes they were all done and were very nice. You can see they will be developing the apartments with sofas, baths, etc from the layout - but this isn't yet done. Next year, this will be a more expensive room to stay in.

The hotel had problems with water for 4 of our 7 days. No hot water for 2 days was a particular problem. The main hotel had NO water for one of the nights, but this did not affect the apartments.

The pool area is a lovely and relaxed, and the selection at the pool bar is good, though if you like a variety of alcoholic drinks it was a bit poor. Soft drinks were varied and plentiful.

For a 4* place I was disappointed to be charged €7 per day for air conditioning and the Internet was €5 for 90 minutes (there is little free wi-fi in Kolymbia). We didn't get the air con, but next month when it's 35 degrees plus, you'll probably need it. 7/10.

THE FOOD

Very hit and miss. Breakfast and lunch (on the whole) were great to good. Breakfast had a variety of pastries, fruit, cereals, eggs, beans, etc... as holiday buffet breakfasts go it was good. Lunch was also good, plenty of variety, Greek dishes, fresh salad, nice cakes (some dodgy dishes but enough to get by). Dinner, however, was a mix of average to dreadful. One night they served Pork Belly and Fish, of very low quality. There were plenty of complaints. The word 's**t' was uttered on more than one table and in more than one language. Must try harder 5/10.

THE LOCATION

If you are looking for quiet relaxation, it's a great place to stay. Secluded, even for Kolymbia. It's a 15 minute walk to a very small town with maybe 3 lively bars if you want a few drinks. There is one bar close by (out the entrance and left - walk 3 minutes) that sells Mojtos for €2.

The nearest beach is a 5 minute walk and is stony. The waves are very strong in the evenings, so to be avoided after 5pm. A €10-15 taxi will take you to Tsambika beach which is absolutely beautiful. It's the other side of the mountain to the hotel, and takes 5 minutes. That is expensive, but the bus that picks you up outside the hotel did not come after we waited for 45 minutes so it can't be relied on. Renting a car is €60-€80 for a day, but there are some good deals on 3 day rentals.

6/10.

That's it. In summation it was a good holiday, and is a nice 3* place. Not a 4*. It has potential though. I'd also mention that there was a very nice relaxed atmosphere around the place with a nice camaraderie between guests over the week, which I found to be very pleasant for a small hotel.

Overall: 6.8/10.

We stayed at the Anavadia for a week in mid May2013, we booked via Secret Escapes for a bargin price and were pleasantly suprised with what we got. The Hotel was 2/3rds full so no issue with sun beds etc, food was acceptable but a bit repetitive so by the middle of the week we found ourselves having breakfast and lunch and eating out on an evening. We found a great family run Taverna "Palazzo" about 5 mins walk which had great homemade Greek food the Prawn Saganaki was divine.
The room was clean and spacious though I think we fell lucky as I assume we were in a family room. The beds were a bit hard and the shower cubicle was very small but it did not stop our enjoyment. The staff were very attentative and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend the hotel if you are looking for small, quiet family run, and away from main area.

Just returned from a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday at the Hotel Anavadia. Couldn't fault the hotel at all and the staff were very friendly and helpful from the moment you walked thru the door, nothing was too much trouble. Anastasia went out of her way to make sure everyone was well looked after nothing was too much trouble we wish her well in the future and hope her added rooms are soon completed so more people can enjoy her hospitality.

The staff at this hotel are exellent, we asked to be moved to a different room as there was a cockerel keeping us awake..no problem,no fuss they just did it,we were asked every morning after that if we slept ok...which we did.The rooms were clean and of a good standard. The shower cubical was a bit on the small side. The food was ok for the money that we paid for the holiday, not fantastic but far from being poor. The location is good for sightseeing half way between Lindo and Rhodes. We hired a car for three days, the hotel arranged it for us.
The very small harbour beach in Kolymbia and harbour canteen bar are great and the beach has soft sand. All in all we were very happy with our stay.

Room Tip: if you are a light sleeper do not have a room on the same side as the goats and chickens
