“Lomeniz Beach Hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2014

Me and my partner spent 1 week at the Lomeniz Beach Hotel at the beginning of August. This wasn't an expensive trip or a really cheap one, we paid somewhere in the middle of the options available and so long as you appreciate that is the level you are booking at I don't think the Lomeniz Beach Hotel disappoints.

It is quite basic, on our arrival one of the two lifts wasn't working, our room 257 (at the rear of the hotel) was still easy enough to get to, there is a bit of a superficial crack in the wall above the bed, otherwise the room was clean, had a fridge that worked, air con that worked and a balcony that got a reasonable amount of sun. The TV has a range of channels in different languages, not many in English, only the news really and the remote didn't fully work. There were only 2 pillows provided but more were available when we asked. The mixer shower over the bath works fine, the fabric shower curtain was a bit old and frayed and the bathroom turns into a steamroom easily due to the lack of any ventilation. The towels provided were clean, replaced daily but they were a little on the rough side. I suppose it depends how much those little things will bother you, for us they didn't and we were happy with our room.

The staff are quite approachable and welcoming. The bar man Christos was always interested in what we had done each day and can provide some good tips and advice for where to go etc. The bar area has free Wifi and can be quite an unsocial place at times with everyone tuned into their phones and tablets. The Lomeniz attracts a large number of other nationalities, whilst we were there it was obvious there were a large number of Russian and Italian guests and so being sociable is somewhat non existent anyway. In the bar area there is a pool table which has a serious roll to it and there is no chalk for the cues, games cost 2 euro. There is also an air hockey table, the air pressure isn't right though and it is barely worth trying to play, games cost 1 euro for what must be about 2 minutes. The pool area is nice and relaxing, there don't seem to be many sunbeds in comparison to the size of the hotel yet this didn't seem to be a problem during our stay, however it may be an idea to get up early if planning a day by the pool. Next to the pool is a snack bar which is reasonably priced and in the shade. There are probably about 20 sunbeds and about 8 umbrellas, so there are some sunbeds that have no option for shade.

The hotel itself is set in an area fairly free from tourism, it seems to be more of an area where the locals live, there are still some shops and restaurants in easy walking distance though. The first place we found was a little Greek takeaway where you can sit in, it is just around the corner and serves yummy Gyros and Souvlaki at a reasonable price. There is also a stoney beach over the dual carriageway. This beach has a very obvious sewage pipe in the middle of it, the beach is quite smelly, littered and unkempt which if you like that sort of thing is fine but there are many better beaches on Rhodes, even if it means a trip down the road to Faliraki. The hotel is about a mile from the old town, the easiest route to walk is down a road called Kanada, if you can find it it is a straight walk towards the edge of old town and probably takes 15-20 minutes. otherwise taxi's are easy to get and cost around 5-10 euro between Rhodes town and the hotel. Small car hire is quite a challenge, you either have to get there early or at about 5pm when some cars have been returned. Try the area around the university and near M&S for car hire places if you get really stuck. At the time of our visit driving conditions were terrible, mainly due to the lack of road markings which makes it really quite dangerous.

We booked bed and breakfast, the breakfast was a real let down for me. The weird cooked breakfast on offer consists of sliced potatoes which are layered and cooked in plenty of oil, as such the bottom is soggy and the top is over crisp. the eggs are either fried or an omelette/scrambled type tray bake that is divided into cubes (these two types alternate days), there are mini saveloy type sausages, baked beans and sometimes (I think it was just one day of the week) bacon rashers. There are also copious amounts of boiled eggs available. Otherwise there is salad, cheese, ham, cakes, bread rolls, croissants, coco flakes, corn flakes, fruit, fruit juice, tea and coffee. The coffee is really quite nice, the croissants are a bit tough and also be WARNED the things that look like pain au chocolate are actually pain au feta cheese or pain au spinach! The food doesn't stay very warm and overall is quite disappointing, glad we only booked breakfast.

Overall as a young couple we found that at Lomeniz we were in easy distance of everything Rhodes had to offer, either a short walk into Rhodes town or when we got a car and went to Faliraki, Lindos, Ixia and the butterflies. It could be more luxurious and could do with some updating but I'm sure there are worse places to stay, at least Lomeniz has a sea view. It was trouble free, even the other noisy guests didn't really bother so there must be some substance to the walls, either that or we were very tired from all the walking. I wouldn't be worried about booking here again but I would consider if maybe I needed more luxury in my life.

Room Tip: The free Wifi is not available in rooms at the rear of the property, best to get a room over the bar...

We thought the lighting left alot to be desired. Very dark bathrooms. The skirting trims were also on the floor rather than stuck to the walls. We had a nice view of a half finished building. And the 47 year old bar man took a worrying liking to my 8 year old daughter!

The environment surrounding is beautiful, and staff is friendly and ready to help with information concerning tourism. Breakfast is only ok and the rooms seems a bit old, but that is not a problem. The thing that really bothered us was the lack of hygiene. One of the pillows in our room was ripped, with stuffing coming out, and big a dark stain. Pillows were awful, for that matter, too old and hard. The towels didn't seem clean either, also stained. I wouldn't recommend it.

Just came back from Rhodes. The hotel is located almost on the highway but still close to the town. It is quite tidy. Some rooms are refurbished, clean and fresh. Some are not. There are rooms with lcd tvs but still there are rooms with tiny tv sets. We had the room at the ground floor near the pool. The breakfast is fair. It is like...what you pay is what you get. Don't have high expactations but still you will not cry about the money.

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks between the 20th of May and 3rd of June 2014.We chose the self catering option. We were disappointed with the luck of basic kitchen staff. There were no chopping board,no sharp knife and no pots apart from one frying pan.No kitchen utensils apart from forks, spoons and blunt knives.
Another problem was the lack of hangers in the wardrobe. We had to share 6 between two of us.
The room was cleaned daily apart from Sundays. The cleaning standards were acceptable.Basically the hard to see areas were not done.
The lobby was spacious and reception staff was good.A lady named Marie-Eve could not be nicer and helpful. No job was too big for her.SPECIAL THANKS FROM US TO HER.
The hotel was full of Russians which did not bother us but if you are after making some English speaking holiday friends you need to forget about it.Those Russians had a very limited knowledge of English.
The pool was very clean and the sun beds were free.
The location was very good.Very close to the beach(approx 5 minutes) and only a 20 minute stroll to Rhodes town. There are two markets within a walking distance to the hotel and many tavernas and grill houses all around.
If you like snorkelling the nearby beach was very good.Lots of marine life.
All in all Lomeniz is not a bad hotel but could be better.I am not sure but think that is is under a new management now and maybe in the future the standard will improve.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. I spent a week at this hotel with my boyfriend and a couple friends. We opted for the breakfast only option, but there was the chance to have food in the hotel if we wanted it for only 10 euros I think.
There was a wide range of food for breakfast, we found ourselves going back for seconds and even thirds some mornings.
The rooms are of a high standard considering the cost, they were very clean and had all the basics. There is free wifi in the bar and reception areas but not in the rooms.
The pool was clean and there is an area with free deck chairs/sunbeds next to it, easy to spend a lazy afternoon relaxing here.
The bar offers a wide range of drinks, the cocktails were lovely,-we checked most of them to make sure. If you arrive back late and the dining room is shut the bar offers pizzas, not freshly made but they still tasted good.
Amazingly helpful staff! We had organised a taxi back to the airport,(a company suggested by our airline), but the date was incorrect, the girl at the front desk helped us to sort it out, this involved several phone calls, chasing people for answers, we were incredibly grateful for the effort she put in.
Additionally the staff were helpful when organising days out, telling us where to find things and sorting us out with renting quad bikes, for a trip further down the island.
There is a small stretch of beach not far from the hotel, perfect for a swim or sunbathing, but bigger beaches are only about 25 min walk away. Old Rhodes town is within easy walking distance. We never felt unsafe walking through the streets.
There are plenty of local restaurants nearby if you fancy eating out.
All in all, a really nice hotel with friendly, helpful staff and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a nice relaxing stress free holiday in Rhodes.

Lomeniz a nice hotel with friendly staff.

Big pool area with free sunbeeds and clean water.

Breakfast was very good, buffé with a lot of different things to eat to make your stomach glad.

Near to the beach, only 5 minutes walk and it is also many small greek tavernas near to the hotel.

If you want to go to the city you can take a taxi for 5 euro or the bus for 1 euro, and if you want to take a walk it takes about 25 minutes.

We can definitely stay in this hotel next time we are visiting wonderful Rhodes.
