Mitsis La Vita Beach Hotel
Ranked #61 of 126 Hotels in Rhodes Town
Reviewed July 31, 2011

The hotel was clean and staff were pleasant. The rooms were of average size and the bathrooms were clean. The beds were made every day ( although mine wasnt too comfy as the mattress had seen better days but it was ok) and towels were changed daily. The worst thing about the room were the blinds that didn't work. The breakfasts were good. There was a choice of cereal, tinned peaches, fruit salad, apricots, fresh water melon, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, French toast, tomatoes, cucumber, selection of cold meats and cheeses, bacon on some days, sausages on others, pastries, selection of breads, freshly made pancakes, fried eggs, tea, coffee, fruit juices. In my opinion there is enough choice there to satisfy most people. We never waited for a table and the staff worked incredibly hard to clean and tidy the tables quickly. The evening meal was taken in the Grand. There wasn't a separate queue for those staying in la vita if you turned up at the correct time. In fact we never had to wait at all. the front of house staff worked very hard to ensure no one waited long. The food was fantastic and varied. There was a wide selection of salads, fish, meats, grilled meats, vegetables and deserts which included lots of fresh fruit such as peaches and nectarines.  There was always a selection of cakes, jellies, ice creams and baklavas. It was hard to choose as it was all yummy. Every night there were different choices. There were always breads, salads, fresh home made burgers and pork gyros. Each night there was a choice of 2 soups too. Food was hot, the queuing minimal and again the staff worked hard.
The pools at the grand were great, clean ( thanks to the staff) and sun beds were plentiful. Again we always got one.
The location was great. There are lots of bars locally. The harbour, old town etc was a 15 min stroll which was flat. The old town was stunning with lots to see if you like culture and history. The new Market was great with one bar becoming a favourite.  The locals were so helpful and friendly. They would invite you into their shops/bars etc but if you said no, they were pleasant. There was always a breeze which was most welcome in the July heat.
So to sum up, the location of the hotel was good (I should have told them about the mattress not being good), the food was great, the hotel was clean, no extra charge was made for air con, the prices in Rhodes were good ( worth shopping around before buying things). Would I go back? Most definitely, a week wasn't long enough, it felt safe and I shall return as there is so much of Rhodes I haven't yet seen. The Mitsis group have got a lot of hard working staff who keep the hotels clean and hospitable.

Stayed in this hotel for 12 days. The only plus of this place is very good location, right next to the sea and 15-20 min walk to the old city. The hotel is supposed to be 4 star (at least our travel agent said so), but it is definitely not more than 3. Our room was extremely small, air con did not work, tv was a size of a shoe box. Everything in the hotel is extremely dated. But nothing can compare to the experience you'll have during breakfast and dinner if you ever venture here! Breakfast room is very small and can not accomodate all guests, tables are taking every inch of space and you basically sitting elbow to elbow with other guests. Tables are not cleaned and it takes time to find a cup or a plate. You are not allowed to take more than 2 pcs of smth at once. Orange juice is so filled with water it is completely tastless. But we have seen a different attitude apparantly to management or vip guests, who happen to eat with the rest of us once. Their table was cleaned with cosmic speed, new white table cloth, and guess what - freshly squeezed orange juice.
The dinner experience was even worse. It is served in a nearby 5 star hotel from 8-15 to 9-15 pm, but they make you wait in a line to enter the canteen ( it is a canteen not a restaurant). Priority is given to guests of this hotel, so you can wait up to 15 minutes. Plus an old greek guy who is at the entrance is making his own rules there. He actually serves his friends first without any embarassment, just calls their names or room numbers. Terrible experience, definitely not the one you would expect during vacation. Food is just ok, nothing special.
My opinion, if you are going to Rhodes avoid this hotel.

We were very satisfied with this hotel. The best thing for La Vita is you have a 5 star dinner at Grand Hotel. Foods were very delicious and a wide varity of choices. Staffs at La Vita were helpful. The hotel is located in a good location and easy to visit many places by walk or car.

Will go back again for sure !!!

I do not recommend this hotel. It stands near the crossroads - two steps from the door and you are on a main street. It's noisy and makes you feel like in the city from which you have escaped. The good thing is that beach is very close. On the other hand it's stony and dirty...
The only reason to stay in this hotel is the old city of Rhodes (half an hour walk from hotel). It's great and worth many visits.

Very good location, cross the road and you are on the beach, 20 minutes by foot to the old town, 10 to the old harbour. Lot of facilities around. The room was a little bit narrow but clean and with sea view. Staff were nice. Breakfast was fresh and sufficient, We stayed on a base of h/b so dinner is nearby at Grand Hotel and was very good.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon to check in and were greeted by a receptionist with long blond hair, she gave us the key to our room on the 2nd floor and when we opened the door we thought there must have been a mistake as we had requested a non smoking room and were given a room with an ashtray that stunk of smoke. The corridor to the room had lots of bins with ashtrays on the top.

We told the receptionist and her reply was – everyone smokes, what can you do? Well actually not everyone smokes, and a non smoking policy in the rooms would be a good idea in this day and age. She offered no help and was quite amazed that someone would find a smoky room a problem. We asked if we could try another room, to which she rolled her eyes and tutted very loudly, she was mumbling to the cleaner about us in Greek who was cleaning the reception area.

She gave us a room on the 4th floor. Again it came complete with an ashtray and smelt of smoke, you couldn’t open the window more than 4 inches as it banged into the wall in this room, we sat on the bed and pondered what to do, we had noticed stains on the bedcover in the first room and again there were stains on the bedcover in this room, I looked at the bed and there was no mattress protector on the very stained mattress, no pillow protectors on the pillows which were heavily stained with sweat stains. The pillows were lumpy and made of bits of cut up foam, something I haven’t seen since the 1970’s! The room was very hot and the air con was not working in the room and it was 34 degrees outside.

The rooms are dark, dated, smelly, hot and dirty we decided we would not like to stay there and went to check out, the receptionist asked us in a curt manner - did this room suit you then? We asked to check out and she thought this hilarious as we had prepaid for half board and would not get our money back. The receptionist was very unprofessional during all of our contact with her and needs training in customer service as she is giving a very bad impression of Mitsis Hotels.

We thought we had a lucky escape and found a lovely apartment to stay at instead.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else, there are much better places

The hotel is centralley located no need for public transportaion to reach the "city" .It is few meters from the beach. The hotel and the rooms are very clean the stuff is polite and will help in any reasonble request.

Breakfast is rich and tasty.

If you stay on a HB basis- dinner is served in a near by hotel the "Grand" a short walk.

The only faliure - the hotel lacks the possibilty of a connection to a wireless computer,
