I did last minute reservation. Wasn't even sure where i going. It was really nice stay in the Mitsis Petit Palais Hotel at Rhodes Island. The hotel is in an excellent location, a short walk to the old down. I walked there almost everyday.
Staff was really nice and friendly. Especially bar staff.

I defiantly return there.

Mitsis Petit Palais is possibly one of the best all round hotels in Rhodes town situated in a nice area.
Having been holidaying on the island for over eighteen years and staying in various establishments I think we know the place pretty well. The rooms are well furnished with double glazed french doors ( so of course very quiet) air conditioning is very efficient with no extra charge. the food is excellent, catering for most nationalities.
Breakfast has the usual things but if you require fried eggs they cook it in front of you to ensure they are fresh, bacon is smoked of course but being on a bed of bread not greasy. Dinner was as good as the breakfast, good fresh salad. A lot of the food was freshly cooked in front of you, with a very good pizza oven.
What we thought was the head waiter was actually the general manager who welcomed you into the dining room. We don't think a head waiter was needed as the staff were all excellent.
Four stars is about right, the swimming pool is a little small but adequate, very private.
All in all we will be going back there in future years.

Mitsis Petit Palais Hotel at Rhodes Island, Greece.
I have recently stayed (10th October, 12) for a couple of days with my wife on ‘All inclusive basis’ at ‘Mitsis Petit Palais’ hotel right in the centre of Rhodes town and near the beach.
This all inclusive hotel is near Akti Miaouli beach about 100 meters away and very close to the old town and shopping area. Near the hotel one can find nice bars and restaurants. For those interested to try their luck the Rhodes Casino is just by the corner.
The hotel is very simple with one restaurant serving breakfast, and buffet lunch and dinner. It also has a nice bar with a big verandah where one can enjoy a free cocktail, cold beer, coffee, snack etc. The hotel has its own pool of moderate size where one can enjoy free of charge the sun-beds and umbrellas. The hotel rooms are big enough and simple with all the amenities of a 3/4 star hotel.
The hotel staff, of Greek nationality, are very experience and willing to assist with a smile in their face and they greed all the hotel residents with the Greek word ‘Kalimera’ meaning good morning and all respond to this with the same word. The hotel residents are of many nationalities ranging from German, English, Russians, Scandinavian etc.
I enjoyed the quality of food with its big variety of green and Greek salads, fresh pitsas cooked in front of you in the Oven which was pre-heated with wood, with nice pastas, and a variety of food with all kinds of meat, poultry and fish with the big variety of fruits and deserts including ice-cream. I can honestly say that the food quality at Mitsis Petit Palai easily surpasses the quality of some hotels who bear 4/5 stars.
The Maitre Hotel is doing a perfect job together with hotel chef in order to offer to their guests an excellent quality of food in a very simple way.

Room Tip: High up floors away from reception area.

First of all the plus side of our stay in the Petit Palais. The hotel is in an excellent location. A short walk from the town beaches, the shops, tavernas, bars, Mandraki harbour and Rhodes lovely old walled town. Our room was kept spotlessly clean, the towels changed daily and sheets every other day. The staff, with just one exception, were extremely courteous and helpful.

Unfortunately the minuses outweigh the pluses. The only toiletries in our bathroom were 2 bars of soap and 1 small bottle of shower gel and one half used one!. In previous 4 star hotels we have always had at least complimentary shampoo, shower cap and body lotion. The shower was half way along the bath with no wall fitting to attach the shower head. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, and these days one finds that in the most basic of guesthouses!

On advice we had requested a room at the back of the hotel as it would be quieter ( the front rooms face a busy street). We had been told the room would overlook the swimming pool. However, the actual view from our 6th floor room was only of tired and shabby buildings, and we could not see the pool without leaning over the precarious wooden balustrade surrounding the postage stamp size balcony!! The balcony floor was constructed of wood slats through which we could see the balcony below. The cane furniture on the balcony looked as if it had been there for 20 years and never maintained - one chair was so unsteady even the pigeons, which frequently alighted on the balcony, would not rest on it!

The dining room was far, far too small for the number of rooms in the hotel and the way the tables were placed reminded us of school canteens. The wait at the buffet style self service could sometimes prove more frustating than the week-end queues in Sainsburys! The choices for breakfast were acceptable ( though they never varied), but for dinner there were the same salads, cold meats and cheeses, and the selection of hot ( luke warm) foods was sadly limited. The desserts were always the same, although the choice of fresh fruit did vary slightly even though the pears and peaches were never properly ripe and very hard. On the last day when going to serve myself a slice of a chocolate choux pastry dessert a load of flies flew from the plate on which it sat. Needless to say I walked away with an empty plate.

The bar area was not large and both the inside and outside area were dark and characterless.

The swimming pool area is especially small for the size of hotel, and the surround soon becomes shaded in the afternoon. Not great for children in our opinion.

The lifts - ah, the lifts!! Just 2 ( maximum 4 people in each, or 2 and 2 suitcases) lifts serve the whole hotel. They are antiquated and the first week we were in the hotel only one lift was working!! Imagine the frustration for those on the highest floors. The lifts are a disgrace and I, for one, was nervous going in them.

Oh yes, let`s not forget the corridors and floors, all tiled. Easy for the staff to clean of course, but so noisy, especially in the middle of the night and early mornings when people come and go dragging suitcases with them!

Thomas Cook rates this hotel 4 stars. In our opinion it warrants no more than 2 and a half!!

Room Tip: Certainly if you want a quiet room you have to choose one at the back of the hotel, but we would advise you to choose one at another hotel!

Opinions vary about this hotel but one thing stands out: it is amazingly good value. Rooms cost just 55 euros, but if you book an ‘all-inclusive’ package, you can pay as little as £400 per person for a week including daytime flights from London. This is what we did, admittedly in the low season (early October). The weather was fine and although the hotel was full, the pool area was never excessively crowded. We always found a couple of loungers and there was never a long wait for meals. Take your meals late (lunch at 2, dinner at 9) and the restaurant will be nearly empty. Of course there were some niggles: the lifts are too small, cramped and noisy; the ‘free’ wi-fi is unreliable and only sporadically available in parts of the reception area; the dining room does tend to get full at peak times. But at this price we were in no mood to complain. The room we had (on 6th floor) was a decent size. It had a small balcony close to the next one, but the view of the pool and the nearby church, with the Palace of the Grand Masters in the distance, was good. The tv was small and there was only programme (BBC world news) in English. There was no hook for the shower in the bathroom. In the pool area there were never more than 2 or 3 others in the water, so no complaints on that score; you can’t expect Olympic-size facilities at this price. And if you want more, remember that you can also use the larger pool at the other Mitsis (‘Grand’) hotel in the next block. But you won’t get free poolside cocktails there. It is just 2 minutes’ walk to the beach, 5 to the aquarium, 15 to the old town. There are shops everywhere, buses and taxis nearby. The food was plentiful and good. Of course, it was Greek, i.e. not always piping hot and some dishes were a bit oily. You get that in restaurants too. I need hardly praise the excellent pizzas and the attentive service. All staff were invariably VERY helpful and friendly. There could have been more seafood on the menu, but you can’t expect unlimited prawns and lobster at this price. Also, the wine was of poor quality, and the white sometimes not chilled. However, there were many cocktails, spirits, lager and soft drinks available (but no retsina). Also good espresso coffee and delicious baklava and other Greek sweets. Greek dancing was laid on once a week. We found that given the price we paid (I repeat: less than £400 for one week including flights) this was five-star value. My only complaint was the unreliable (but free) wi-fi. The router is located on the reception desk and has a very limited range. I would gladly return and we noted that there were many guests who had been before - always a good sign.
