“Above average but no 5 star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2012

Just returned from this hotel, overall not bad, but not especially exciting either. We booked with Thomson who rate it 4T, while the local rating is 5*. Not sure who the local was who rated it, but it just about rated 4*, but only just.
So, whats right with it. Extremely friendly staff, nearly all spoke excellent english, well looked after in reception bar and restaurant, while the Thomson rep was superb, probably the best we have seen, and we have used Thomson quite a lot. Overall the hotel was clean and tidy, a good inhouse shop at what seemed very good prices. We only had a room facing the cliff, but it was modern and well appointed, clean tidy with everything you wanted, except the TV - more later. Yes we had no sea view, but what the heck, you only sleep in the room so who cares. Pools were really nice, 3 outside, one for children, and one indoor, never had any problem getting a sun bed any time of day, despite the last few days the hotel was full. Hotel also has its own part of the beach, although this was actually on an area just next to the beach. The beach itself is narrow and stony, if you want to lay on a sandy beach all day, go elsewhere.

Air conditioning is not throughout the hotel, some of the main areas had nothing, but worked OK in our room, the bar and restaurant.
Easy acess to Rhodes town, only 2.1euros from right outside the hotel, often a taxi will stop and offer to take you, share with two others and its only 8 euros, so same price. Also easy to get a bus back.

So overall pretty good so far, with a little thought, it could have been so much better.
There is a nice bar just off the foyer, but it is only open from 5 to 10, believe it is now open to midnight, starting the day we left of course. If you want a drink during the day, it is pool bar only.
Food was buffet style, which is pretty much what you expect with Thomson and most holiday hotels nowadays, breakfast was OK, but the same every morning, evenings were often "themed", but quite frankly struggled to see much difference, a reasonable choice each night, but not exactly exciting, the staff however were superb.

Entertainment - advertised as every night, usually in the bar on the 8th floor, which is small with no air conditioning, although there is a terrace, it is much too small for the size of hotel. Entertainment was usually two people dancing to the soundtracks from shows etc. She was pretty good, he was tubby and hopeless, more or less the same thing every night, although after 5 minutes the first time we virtually never went again. One night it was round the pool area, which was much better, entertainment was still rubbish, but the atmosphere was better.

Internet computers are available, we had no problems, but gather some others did. Wifi available, but at a cost, as pretty much every other hotel. All local bars have free wifi.

Back to the TV, the only english channel was BBC world, which gets a bit boring after a while, plenty of german, french, polish, probably other languages, and of course greek, not even radio. I know you don't go on holiday to watch TV, but even so this was dire.

So come on Thomson and the hotel, just a little more effort and thought and it would warrant the 4T rating.

Nothing to do with the hotel, but do not get caught by Aegean Blue, "It's not a Timeshare they say" - Oh yes it is.

Room Tip: I you want a sea view, make sure you ask for it, rooms above floor 6, may get some noise from bar on...

We had the most wonderful holiday at this hotel. It was a high standard hotel with the most exceptional service. Rooms were very modern and kept spotlessly clean. The staff were wonderful extremely helpful and friendly. We did not have a sea-view but the cliff view at the back gave lots of interest for watching nature and local goats grazing on the sheer cliff.

The pool area is magnificent with plenty of available sun loungers at any time.

The food was freshly cooked each day with plenty of choice and if you want chips etc just ask and you will get. Salads and cakes were to die for!!Mary and Vera were the best!!!

Getting into Rhodes is extremely easy most times taxi will stop at the bus stop and offer to charge 5 euros the same as the bus trip. Quicker and easier than the bus.

Hire a car and see the island it is worth it. Visit the Sebastian bar and Glory days were you will get the most friendly service

We love Rhodes and its people after our visit and will come back. Thankyou

Room Tip: All rooms are of a high standard.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were amazed to find that the room actually looked like the one advertised in the brochures/internet. Very clean and large. We had a sea view which was fabulous. The pool area was large, clean, plenty of sunbeds and we were even provided with a pool towel (and we were only half board). As we were half board it didnt matter where we had a drink and didnt really bother with the rooftop bar, we sat at the lobby bar and the barman (Vasilis) was brilliant, he stayed there for as long as we wanted a drink. the restaurant was clean and the food hot and various. Im very fussy and I even found enough food to eat. My husband loved the food. Mary the waitress was wonderful.
My only criticism would be that there was so much potential in the hotel that was not being used, but we are looking to book a week in May next year. If you want to go out at night, the best bar (which we visited every night!!!!!) was Sebastians Bar about a 3 minute walk from the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms on the sea view appear to be better rooms

Returned for third visit to Olympiic Palace. Excellent service, great choice of food. All staff very friendly. Reception, Cleaners, dining room staff and management were excellent. We visited with family, and the children were well catered for. Hotel and pool area, were very well kept.
We had two rooms on the 4th floor with sea view. Well worth paying extra for. Great view from roof top bar. Will certainly be back.

Room Tip: pay extra for sea view. well worth it.

First stayed here in 2010, excellent service and definitely worth the money. Could not fault the staff, always helpful and rooms modern and spotlessly clean. Definitely go for the sea view rooms, worth the extra cost. Make sure you visit the top floor to view the susnset over Turkey - spectacular ! wouldn't bother about the bar though..... the best bar by far is PERI's house, turn left out of the hotel drive and you will find it approximately 150m on the left.... modern, clean and prices much more reasonable than the hotel....... especially the Mojito !!!!!

Room Tip: Sea View room.... you will not regret it !

Have just returned from fourth visit to the Olympic Palace, i cant speak more highly of the management they helped me in everyway after my husband was taken ill with chest problems. We will return again and recommend the hotel to all our friends. Beside this the hotel staff, service, food and rooms are second to none!

Unable to decide where to go this year, so we decided to return to the Olympic Palace. Best decision we made. We arrived at reception to be warmly welcomed. Had previously emailed the hotel to explain we were returning and asked if possible to be in the same room (523). As the hotel was full, we were asked if 519 would be ok, it was. Paid extra for sea view when booking, well worth it. Arrived at about 3pm, that evening a selection of fruit and bottle of wine was delivered with compliments, lovely touch. The hotel has had a lick of paint on outside and gardens/crazy golf has been spruced up. Pool towels are now supplied in rooms for use. Plenty of choice during mealtimes. Restaurant staff always pleasant. I like the pool area but prefer the beach across the road, bit more peaceful for me. There are beds on the upper part of the beach that are for hotel use only but I preffered to pay €4 for a bed nearer the sea. Tip- invest in a pair of beach shoes ( available in supermarket) as first few steps consist of pebbles, then sand. Lovely warm water and a lovely breeze. Glory Days/FBI bar our only stop at night, the staff are brilliant, thank you once again for welcome (diolch yn fawr). lovely relaxed holiday, we'll be back.
