We booked a cheao lowcost holiday to belair beach hotel (24 Sept-1 Oct 2011) only paid about £420 each all inc for a week. I did read the variety of reviews before booking. Weather all week was blue skies and sunny, between 26-30 degrees.

The hotel rated 4 star is probably what you get for a lower 3 star. We got taxi from Airport to hotel €17, the return taxi was €19. Cheaper than I expected.
The reception area was clean and nice, the receptionist was great, friendly, a lovely welcome.
Our room was 410, top floor on the front overlooking the sea, very large space, double bed but it was rather hard to sleep on but ok for a week and 3 pillows, not 4? wall to floor wardrobes, plenty hanging space, drawers, 2 bedside tables, fridge, small portable tv. Bathroom was large, had a nice window giving plenty of light, large area round the sink to put bottles etc. The bedroom and bathroom was clean, fresh towels daily and clean sheets every other day. The maid did her best and we were happy with that. The fridge was good for storing alcohol, water and pop.
We paid €16 for the Safe for a week, please get one! We did hear of an English couple who had their room broken into a few nights before we arrived by an old staff member- who was at the time being arrested but the couple did not hire a safe and just put valuables in their case. We didnt hear of any other issues so dont be too worried.
Our balcony was huge and the views over the sea and sunsets were lovely, Yes the main road runs past the hotel but we never heard it when balcony doors were shut. Air Con was adjustable and great.
The Hotel Pool was sub zero, freezing. It took me 3 days to pluck up the courage to get in there up to my thighs but that was enough, never swam in it but my partner did (he was very brave) not many others got in either for long. The pool sunbeds get the sun from around 10am til 3 but gets shaded alot. It was great there were hardly any children at this time, the pool area was quiet and had some nice inflatable water beds left from previous guests that you could use. What made me laugh was the age group of the guests bearing in mind we are nearly 40, the rest were from Shearings or Saga holidays!! Well I mean retired age and not many british, quite a few gremans, russians, romania, czech and mainland greek. The sunbeds were plentiful and adjustable, had padded waterproof covers on which were comfy to snooze on, probably more comfortable than the bed mattress! We did'nt have to scramble for the sunbeds either as loads to go round which was great and stress free for once.
The pool bar was good, opens at 10am til 6pm. The two ladies running the bar were very pleasant and friendly, always smiling and cleaning. The drinks were ok, all incl. you cant moan as its free, We mainly drank lager, shandy, soft drinks and the odd vodka and orange juice and rum and coke.
Food, well, I am not a fussy eater at all and will eat almost anything. Just as well as there was little variety. There was no real bacon at breakfast, grilled or baked ham I think, Sausages were those hotdog type, Beans were ok. I dont eat eggs but there were there. You could get cereal, toast, Cheese, Meats, Salad? fruit. So I guess there was plenty really. The bread was fresh and buns were lovely. One morning I made myself a toastie! Coffee was nice from the machine and they had sweetners, which I dont often see.
Lunch was much like dinner, Salad, Hot dishes. The fish was lovely, had this 3 times and no skin or bone anywhere. Sometimes they had chips but mostly croquettes or other veg. You can have salad every day if you wish along with feta and olives. You could have lager and red or white wine or soft drinks with lunch or dinner and the wine was drinkable.
The snacks by the pool bar are a joke, although one day we had chicken nuggets and pizza, the other days its was not worth bothering with and better to go in for a quick lunch.

There was a small supermarket next to the hotel, which was handy for water, crisps etc If you want to book any trips, see Manos travels which is in the hotel grounds, turn right from the reception doors. Manos and Gunta are great, we booked a boat trip to Lindos and a Boat swimming trip (Both €27 each) and we enjoyed both.
There is not much to do at night, the hotel had 'entertainment' Tue & sat evenings but its poor. If you want to have a walk out go left at the hotel, keep walking 10 minutes and you get to some nice bars and restaurants. FBI and Lunar bar are good, serve nice drinks and offers on cocktails and have free wi'fi. I was surprised the drinks were quite cheap, Pint lager €3 and cocktail the same. We had breakfast out one morning as slept in and it was lovely. We tried fresh calamari twice when out on trips and it was yummy.
We went to Rhodes old town one afternoon for souveniers, €2.10 one way each on the bus or €8 in a taxi. A lovely place you must see. We went again one evening and ate out in the main square BUT beware, waiters dont tell you prices of the drinks as just want your business and are all chatty and nice until you get the bill and I had to pay €7.50 for a small bottle of Strongbow Cider and €11 for a large beer which was the shape of a wellington boot glass and 1.5 litres. SO ask the prices first!! The food in the restaurants was good, We paid €50 for Steak, Calamari and Pizza, Fries and half carafe of wine.

The beach outside the hotel was rocky and no good for bare feet, but the sea was lovely and warm (warmer than the pool) Sunbeds on the beach were €4 each all day (no half day concessions) and the same price everywhere on the island. The boat trips were fab and sea was clear, clean and warm. Snorkelling was good and you could do windsurfing and motor boats aswell for a fee.

All in all, we enjoyed our time away. It was relaxing, the hotel despite being basic had everything we needed and we never had trouble with tummy ache, flies etc etc. A holiday is what you make it and I think alot of people stress out far too much and should just chill and enjoy themselves. If you want 5 star then pay for it.
Ixia is quiet and this particular hotel is not for children or teens, my teen daughter had she been with me would have had a nightmare with the food and pool water being so cold.
Rhodes is pretty but to be honest the whole island is run down and needs an injection of cash but then we all know Greece is having governmental and financial issues so dont expect too much. The Greeks are simple living people and friendly, only trying to earn a hard living like most other european countries. It was'nt as bad as people have reviewed but I wouldnt go back as the place is far too quiet for me.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the sea on the front of the hotel are possibly larger and have bigger balconies.

Reviewed October 10, 2011

My mother had invited us to Rhodes (2nd to 10th of October, 2011) and to respect her single economy she found Belair Beach Hotel. When I later found the poor reviews on the internet I got worried that our trip as a whole would turn out bad. When we arrived at the hotel I noticed that many reviewers had made a good point but also that many were colored by a mismatch between expectations and experience, and I then decided to write my own.

The purpose of this review is to be as objective as possible and leave out my own opinion, though a true objective review is of cause impossible. My review is based on the hotel´s home page (http://www.belair-beach.gr/EN/facilities.htm) and the facilities they promise. The home page has too few information to establish a solid impression. I will leave the things out that are already reviewed thoroughly or presented sufficient on their home page.

GENERAL IMPRESSION OF THE AREA:
The hotel is placed in Ixia 5 km south of Rhodes city. Ixia is old. The streets are dirty and you get the feeling that public development stopped 30 years ago. Walks in Ixia made us feel that we had arrived at a party that finished many years ago. All the bars apparently have agreed to play music from the 80´s, which adds to the feeling that the clock have stopped ticking. The road, which is right outside the hotel is VERY busy (main coastal road) and the sidewalk is narrow and interrupted every 4 m by high edges that are not friendly to strollers. If you walk 10 minutes heading south it gets better. There you will find 200 m of broader sidewalk and some bars and shops.

GENERAL IMPRESSION OF BELAIR BEACH HOTEL: The hotel fits into Ixia´s old look. The interior is dark, the furniture is old and all the things that should give you the feeling of "luxury" are lacking. It is like entering a time warp.

THE STAFF: Very friendly including the cleaning ladys, receptionists and the restaurant staff. You truly feel that Greek hospitality.

MINI SHOP: next to hotel and will provide you with the basics, such as sodas, beers, dairy products, chips, toys for the beach, sun glasses, towels, candy, wine and so on. Some nearby markets do a better job.

SWIMMING POOL: we went in October and the water was very refreshing and did not invite for longer stays. However, when the temperature hits 28 it serves it purpose. It goes from 0,70 m to 1,40 m and some swimming is definitely possible.

UMBRELLAS AND SUN BEDS: they really needs a bush up. The mattresses are old and dirty.

CHILDREN´S POOL: a joke! It is very small (around 4 x 3 m, 0,40 m deep) and not cleaned daily. In October the sun did not reach the area of this pool and out children (1 and 3 years old) had to use the big pool, which meant that they could no be left alone.

RESTAURANT: It´s a buffet and don´t expect an "haute cuisine" experience here. We had breakfast and dinner (half board) and were happy. Breakfast was 4-5 different types of bread, small croissants, yogurt and cereals, coffee from a machine (crowded), and salad. Dinner was 4 dishes of meat to choose from, warm vegetables, salad and 3 types of dessert. During the week different themes are presented such as Greek food, Italian food and then days with no specific theme. We all found the food varying and satiating and did not find any flies in the food. Neither was it cold. Whenever a dish was finished a refill was served and only the dessert zone ran out of cream and cake some days. We ate out for lunch and the food was comparable with the food in the restaurant.
We did not have full pension and bought drinks every day. One bottle of local red wine, soda and milk for the children was 13-15€. The staff (4 persons and the boss) were very friendly in spite of the demanding task.

CHILDREN´S PLAYGROUND: children demand very little to be entertained on a playground and this was what they got. Two swings and a slide was it. Was it placed behind the hotel and left the impression that children would have to satisfy with the dirty backyard. It was not sufficiently shielded from the roof of the neighboring markets and children could not be left alone there.

CAR RENTAL OFFICE: The area is crowded with car rental offices and the office located next to the hotel was not the most attractive.

MINI GOLF: on the other side of the road there is an abandoned mini golf zone overtaken by plants.

TENNIS COURT: next to the small children´s playground there is one tennis court. It is possible to get rackets and balls in the reception, which many did.

BASKETBALL COURT: we did not find this.

SEA SPORTS: on the beach on the other side of the road you will find 1 or 2 places to rent jetskis, pedal boats and equipment for windsurfing.

PRIVATE BEACH: this is not a sand beach. Be prepared for lots of rocks and quite deep water. The water was warmer than the pool and we spend a half day playing with the children. However, children can only go one meter into the water without an adult nearby. Much better beaches are found on the Eastern side of Rhodes but our best beach experience was at the very southern point. There you will find the biggest beach which also allows you to bring your car on the beach. You simply park 2 meters away from the water (highly recommended).

JEWELRY SHOP: another joke! This is placed in the market and consists of one table with some bracelets and so on.

LOUNGE WITH INTERNET: you pay for wifi at the hotel, also in this "Café Corner", buy almost all the nearby bars had free wifi for costumers. Go to these instead.

FINAL CONCLUSION: You decide for yourself! Would I go back to Belair Beach Hotel? No! This is not a hotel for a family with children (1 and 3 years old). Small children pool, small playground, no sand beach and very busy road right outside the hotel. If you go without children you may find the rates attractive (420 € in October, one week, one room, half board for two persons).

Just got back from a great week at this hotel with friendly staff, clean rooms and plenty good food. Even the airport strike and a long night at Rhodes airport will not mar our happy memories.
Tips:- Take an extension with a long lead unless you like ironing, hairdressing etc, by the door in a dark passage. (Only the one socket halfway up the wall just by the door).
This time of year (October) pool area often in shade but great beach across the road 8 euros a day for 2 beds and parasol.
Not much in the way of entertainment unless you have always fantasized about Elvis as a 4'6" aging, oriental . Hilarious!!
Seriously, if you are looking for a base to explore this fascinating island, you will be well looked after and well fed. Well done Lowcost Holidays for yet another bargain. Your organisation is second to none. Kept us well informed by personal calls to mobiles during strike.

Room Tip: Sea views spectacular. Don't worry about road noise. Won't keep you awake once doors closed.

I am currently staying at the Belair Beach hotel in Ixia, Rhodes and i have to say i read all of the reviews before i came here and some of them worried me, but on arriving i was very pleasantly surprised. I have particularly looked for the issues that have been mentioned, food, flies, rude staff, dated rooms...etc...but all in all i am having a very pleasant stay and haven't found any of these things to be an issue, the food is basic buffet hotel food, there haven't been any flies around, the rooms aren't a problem and have had no rudeness from any of the staff. If you have booked this hotel already please don't be put off it is perfectly acceptable in my eyes, please remember that the starring system here is different than in the UK....the staff appreciate it if you make an effort with manners and try a little Greek as i have noticed that a lot of people here don't thank staff when they clear tables..etc...good manners to people go a very long way. The Greek culture may come across as a little off sometimes but this in general is how they are..and must not be taken personally.Hope you have a great stay like we are!!!!! :D

Reviewed September 30, 2011

we had been to this hotel about 8 years ago and were suprised that it looked the same now as it did then. ( and it was out-dated then ).

ROOMS
very clean with towels changed daily, portable tv very small and out of the arc, beds comfy but are about six inches off the floor ( ok if your only 2 foot tall), bathroom basic but only big enough for one at a time. one spare socket which is at the front door and no good to plug anything in, so you have to unplug the tv or fridge.

POOL
clean and tidy area, a lot of the beds have been repaired in the past but do need replacing. you do have to follow the sun around as the hotel puts the pool in the shade most of the time ( ok for us as the pool was not busy but if busy you would not get much sun). one morning they were cleaning the pool about 8.30am and then they poured the chemicals in ( that was me out the pool that day) . staff at pool are very good and keep it well clean.

FOOD
no matter what you have it will always be cold. the plates are that hot you sometimes carn't pick them up but dont worry as when you put your meal on them they soon cool down. not enough choice, very bland and no greek food.waiters brush the crumbs off tables onto floor. the manager stands at the door looking more like a male model and justs stares at you.

DRINK
FORGET IT. the soft drinks were disgusting and tasted nothing like sprite or pepsi, the spirits were all the cheap stuff you would not buy at home and were like paint striper.

OVERALL
we had a good time and made some good friends, but you only get what you pay for. this is a cheap hotel in rhodes ( and is not a 4 star more like a low 3). so please do go if you think you can live on salads and will go out for food and drink. hotel is deserate to have some money spent on it but the way greece is at the minute i carn't see that happening, which i think will be the end of the hotel.

What can i say other than the rooms being clean and sheets and towels changed daily this hotel is disgusting. Had to stay at another hotel for the first night has they had overbooked and we were not the only ones. Paid for All Inclusive but had to eat out every day the food was horrendous. Hot food not even warm it was cold. Glasses and crockery filthy. I am not normally one to complain or write a review but believe me I would advise anyone not to stop at this hotel. I also ended up with diarrhoea after eating in the hotel 2 nights before we were due to fly home and i am still not well. Also met another couple at the hotel who felt the same and they also had there room broken into and money stolen (not good). Avoid this hotel even if you do get a cheap deal.
