After booking the Hotel Grand Mitsis in Rhodes we checked Trip Advisor and saw some comments which gave us a sleepless night or two, worrying that we'd had made a big mistake. So, in hope of putting other peoples minds at rest this is our opinion.

On entering our room we found it to be clean and very spacious, the views were great (sea and front pool view - definitely recommended). As some other guests have mentioned the furniture and decoration in the rooms is a little bit tired, but its the kind of thing you notice on arrival and then within half an hour dont really think about anymore - I would not let this put you off.

The buffet area can get a little busy around 8pm. This is because the guests from La Vita Mitsis next door also use the hotel for their evening meal and have to eat at a set time - we found that going down around 7pm or leaving it until 9pm meant that we didnt have to wait to be seated. We both loved the food (I am a veggie and managed to eat plenty). One small downside is paying for water - I would happily pay for soft drinks or alcohol but I do think water should be provided as part of the meal. However it's only 3 euro for a large bottle and we were prepared for this when we arrived so not really a big deal.

We ate at the Italian 3 times (my boyfriend loves italian food) and it was lovely. Would definitely recommend giving this a try.

There are three pools at the hotel - two outdoor saltwater pools and one ondoor freshwater pool. Although I prefer fresh water we still used them all and they all seemed very clean, as did the surrounding areas. We managed to get sunbeds most days, but it's worth doing what everyone else does - get there early and leave a towel on the bed you want to use.

I don't think the hotel location could be any better. As we were on the front there was a nice breeze which helped to cool us down in the heatwave, it's only a short walk into Rhodes town, and if you like a little nightlife, there is a small strip of bars and a cool club with a live band only a couple of streets away (which you could not hear from the hotel).

All in all we loved the hotel - it's probably not a five-star by UK standards, but in Greece easily the best hotel we have stayed in. All the staff were friendly, helpful and helped to make our trip wonderful, we'd definitely go again!

A 5* rating in my opinion is when a hotel goes that little bit extra,
and although the Grand Mitsis ticks all the boxes for cleanliness, friendliness of staff, quality of food, location etc, if you looked a little too close the decor is just a bit shabby despite being refurbished recently.

The most annoying thing by far is the 'reserving a sunbed with your towel' culture! Generally if you left it later than 9.30 to get to the pool you had no chance of getting a sunbed let alone one with any
shade or an umbrella! Why don't hotels make it a policy that towels left on beds unattended will be put in a pile in the corner?Especially the top end hotels!

Our room was in the 'Summer Palace' (right hand wing) which looked over the sea and pool out the front which was lovely! These rooms were very spacious with a balcony and despite being close to the road were fairly quiet. The bathrooms are large and clean however looked a little dated and complimentary toiletries were on hand although you had to ask for refills once you'd used them up! You couldn't fault the food! There was always plenty of choice, which was regularly topped up if you happened to get to the dregs of a bowl of salad. And there was an additional Chinese and Italian restaurants which were a la carte as opposed to buffet!

The hotel is ideally located. There's plenty of bars and restaurants if you go left, and left again out of the hotel. If you walk straight
down this road you finally hit the old town, about a 15/20 minute walk, and directly outside the hotel there is the local bus stop.
We got a fab deal by surfing the internet, and for £450 HB I think this hotel is value for money. Other people we spoke to had spent alot more...so surf around! Ooo, and go to a local car hire place as Budget car hire inside the hotel charges €45 a day and we paid €30!
Happy holiday!

Having read the negative reviews on this hotel we are now sure there must be 2 Grand Hotels in Rhodes as we are hard pushed to find any negatives. Due to our flight times, and being aware that rooms are not available until 2pm, we booked our stay at the Grand Hotel for 8 nights. We arrived at 5am in a 16EURO taxi to be greeted in a bright marble pillared reception area by a very friendly male receptionist. Our room had a double and single bed, a fridge, TV, lovely bathroom and, as we had splashed out an extra £2 a night for a sea-view room , a balcony with breathtaking sea views, a steal at £26 per night half board! Breakfast is buffet style and has everything you could want from cereals and fruit to freshly made crepes, toast and baked beans! Opt for the sour cherry fruit juice tho, it's far from sour but less sugary than the other juices. Dinner again is buffet style which can get quite busy at times so the hotel also has a Chinese and an Italian restuarant which are both available at no extra charge and are both fantastic and have waiter service - the duck in the Chinese is outstanding.
The hotel has 2 outdoor pools and the pool at the back of the hotel has a 'cafe' serving snacks, coffees, teas and big cold beers to keep you going until dinner. All the pool areas and public toilets were spotless and well kept.
There is also a lounge bar which has entertainment each night and opens up to a larger area with stage for the weekend entertainment. Each member of staff we encountered, in all areas of the Hotel, was extremely friendly, helpful and efficient.
Rhodes Old Town is a pleasant 15-20 min walk along the sea front and a quick 10-15 min walk through the new town. Would recommend stopping off en-route at the Romantika Bar (Turn right when leaving the hotel then 1st right again. On the RHS by the Supermarket), this may however hamper your plans for the evening as you will be reluctant to leave the fun atmpsphere and sparkly cocktails.
A great place for a drink/ snack in the Old Town is Soctratous Garden complete with resident 33 year old parrot, Coco. If you exit to the rear of Socratous Garden, by the WC's, the best Greek 'Tapas' style restuarant is tucked away in the corner to the left (entrance hidden by a Beach Towel stall). They have live music on Tues, Thurs & Sat and feed you till the kitchen closes at 1am.
This is our 2nd visit to Rhodes Town which never disappoints and our 3rd visit will certainly be back at the Grand which due to location, quality and value is 'Grand by name, Grand by nature!

Regular overbookings, abrasive reception staff, rooms aged and in dire need of renovation. Bathrooms badly needing renovation, public bathrooms not serviced regularly, resulting in filthy state with bins overflowing. Public area furniture in dire need of replacement, sunbeds on beach totally dilapidated and beach area itself not maintained or cleaned, and bins overflowing with rubbish throughout the day. Restaurant staff extremely courteous, hard working and efficient. Fail to see how this hotel attained 5 star or A class status, even when it was first built, which although advised as 10 years ago, appears more like a 20 year old non-renovated complex. Attitude of Management/booking staff on Reception borders on racism with the Brits getting the worse deal in allocation of rooms.

Myself and my friend recently stayed at the Grand hotel and had a fantastic time - our only complaint was the fruit juice at breakfast- no-one else has mentioned this but it was like drinking pure sugar with a hint of fruit ( this applied to all flavours ) not a huge complaint I know but we couldn't think
of anything else!
Everything else was great, the room, the service & food ( especially the chinese resturant ) and the location was great. The pools were cold, but they woke you up! and the staff were pleasant too and as we were by far the youngest there at the time ( early 30's!) we received much attention from their car hire man- who we named Meatloaf - who offered to marry me if I havn't found a good husband by September. tempting..
