“Sheraton hotel ixia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2014

We stayed at this hotel in June 2014 for a week. The hotel is lovely and I cannot fault the service, staff, cleanliness at all. We stayed b&q and can say the hotel has two excellent restaurants with outstanding views and service. The hotel also has an excellent bar menu for a less informal meal. I can say I found the hotel to be very a peaceful haven with plenty of areas to sunbath. The breakfast was amazing with plenty of choice.

Ixia it self was very disappointing and spreads along a very busy main road. Most of the restaurants are spread along this road and as such not making it a very pleasant place to go out and eat. However, we did discover an excellent restaurant and bar on the sea front called Villa Di Mare away from the busy road overlooking the sea. It serves excellent cocktails and has a really great atmosphere.

The old town of Rhodes is only a short bus ride away and the bus stops right outside the Sheraton Hotel. This is well worth a visit, with a maze of shops and restauraants. However, you do get fed up with waiters trying to coax you into their bar/restaurant . If you leave the main area you will find a lot of other restaurants which have more appeal . One in particular is the Cafe Piano Xauau and I do recommend this small and very quaint restaurant offering great food and service. So typically Greek.

Room Tip: One with a sea view.

We stayed here for ten nights in the middle of June. This was our first time to Rhodes and we were certainly very impressed. Rhodes is a beautiful island with delightful people.

Sheraton Rhodes is well-situated, just a 10 minutes bus ride into Rhodes Town, and the views from the hotel are stunning, overlooking the Aegean Sea and Turkey.

Our room, on the 11th floor, was very comfortable, clean , with all amenities provided. Our balcony was wonderful as the chairs were so comfortable and the views were spectacular. We were also shaded from the hot sunshine during the day and then in the evenings there were the most amazing sunsets. Any little problems arising, eg. a broken hair dryer , were quickly and efficiently dealt with by the most professional Reception Staff.

The staff in the hotel made this a most memorable holiday as they were all so friendly, professional and helpful. Thank you.

However, it was at breakfast that we had the most incredible service and quality and choice of food. We made sure we were down at 8am, as mentioned in other reports that breakfasts became extremely busy by 9am. We sat outside in the same area each morning, and we have never, in all our years of holidays, had service so perfect. Our waiter, Lambros, was highly efficient, most professional but so friendly. He remembered, each morning, what we liked to drink. Tea/coffee were always piping hot, and fresh orange juice was of good quality. The choice of food was extensive and we especially enjoyed the choice of fresh fruit available each day and also the wonderful local cheeses. Wow!

We stayed B &B so cannot comment on the evening meals. You don't need to go in to Rhodes Town in the evening to eat as there are a few restaurants in Ixia. We discovered Rodos Garden Restaurant which served good food and good service. Ixia is not the most attractive of resorts but we chose the area because it was so close to Rhodes Town and we were able to visit this historical town many times.

We keep thinking about the very caring staff who looked after us - they helped make this a great holiday. Thank you Sheraton Rhodes - we shall return.

Just back from a weeks holiday at the Sheraton Hotel, Rhodes and boy does it have the wow factor. Beautifully laid out hotel with excellent facilities and spotlessly clean throughout. I stayed in a superior sea view room on the 4th floor which was centrally located overlooking the main pool with gorgeous views to turkey. The staff are very friendly and helpful perhaps with the exception of the reception staff which I found to be rather dour and aloof. That aside the hotel is fantastic, great food, great pools and good quality furniture/loungers/chairs etc. The hotel was apparently full during our stay but due to its size and 3 great pool areas it never felt overcrowded. Sunloungers can always be found around the pools at any time of the day. The private beach also has great loungers with parasols if you wanted a change. The beach however is shingle and quite stoney. Once out in the water a few feet the bottom is sandy and the sea is lovely. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone and will definitely return again.

Room Tip: Choose a sea front room for fantastic views.

The Hotel Reception were great and did everything to find us our ideal room. We had a Deluxe sea view room which was spacious with a large balcony. Go for sea view room, the views are fantastic. They are far enough from road not to be troubled by traffic. Air conditioning is one of the best that we have experienced in Europe. Breakfast was OK.
As a couple the best pool for us was the one on the 6th floor - very quiet with loads of space between the sun beds.
Access to private beach was very good via a tunnel under the main road. Beaches on Rhodes not as good as some Greek Islands - mix of sand and pebbles - but good waves to play in. No problem getting a sun bed.
Bus service to Rhodes Old Town can be very busy - standing room only by the time it reaches the Sheraton. Fare is €2.3 single. We therefore walked into Rhodes Old Town on several nights along the sea front - very pleasant. This takes about 1hr 20 minutes. We took a Taxi back which costs €8. Alternatively within easy reach of the hotel, if you turn left then it is only 10 minutes walk to many good restaurants and bars. Turn right out of the hotel and within 3 minutes walk there are several good bars.
We will definitely book another holiday at the Sheraton.

Room Tip: Go for sea view room, the views are fantastic.

This is a huge property. I think the front desk staff do a fantastic job keeping people happy. The concierge staff are the best. They are so knowledgeable and can guide you with all honesty. I stayed in a deluxe room with wifi and breakfast included. The breakfast by the pool was nice. However, it became windy so we had to choose indoor location. The spread is pretty good so you won't be disappointed. There is something for everyone.

The hotel has its own private beach which has access directly avoid crossing the road. Free towels available. I did not use the pool or gym so cannot comment. It was interesting to know that they had a spa. Access to steam and sauna is restricted to Spa guests or else a small fee to be paid to use it which I think is disappointing. There are many restaurants you can choose from outside the hotel. A bus stop located outside can take you into town for 2.50 euros each way. If you are more than 3 or more it would be nice to take a cab to old town for under 10 Euros. The hotel has good views of the ocean or mountain depending on the room allocated to you. I would recommend this hotel to anyone including families as many activities to suit kids in the kids club too!

Room Tip: Ask for higher floors for better views. The time I stayed at the hotel there was no disturbance from...

We stayed at the Sheraton for a weekend at the end of June 2014. 4 adults - 2 at each room (rooms 935 and 937).
My impression from this hotel is mixed.
The lobby is quite nice, large and impressive. The reception is nice and welcoming.
However, there are also negative impressions - it was hot outside, and usually such hotels' lobby is cool and pleasant. Not this one - the AC in the lobby was weak. It wasn't as hot as outside, but it was warm, and you couldn't help but feel they are saving energy on your convenience. Other public areas also had weak AC - very disappointing for a resort known for its hot weather.
Elevators were quite slow. During one of the rides, one of them kept showing the 10th floor despite reaching other floors. The elevators are divided to 2 groups. 3 go to floors 1-6 and 3 go to floors 6-12. Lobby is on the 7th floor. The dining room is on the 6th floor. Pool and access to sea are on the 1st floor.
The rooms themselves are quite spacious, clean, with large balconies (room 935's balcony is much larger than 937). Both rooms have views of the Aegean sea, towards Turkey (Marmaris).
Beds are comfortable, though maybe a bit narrow. Furniture is modern, yet simple.
The TV is large enough but although it is capable of showing HD, they don't transmit in HD, and the quality of the TV transmission is quite low. So low that at first we didn't even notice it was raining during a football match from the World Cup. I did like the fact they have Israeli channel 10. They also have Russian channels, French, Turkish, German and English.
Not a lot of spare sockets in the room. Just two in the main room (or you have to unplug something). The worst thing is that they again try to save money on the expense of your convenience - when you turn off the lights with the main switch, you also cut off electricity to all available sockets except for TV and one of the bed side lamps (despite the fact that you leave your key card inserted). This means that you can't charge your appliances during the night unless you keep the light in the hall on. If you use a CPAP device during the night, you must sleep with that light on, because otherwise you won't have electricity...
Shower head can be handheld, which is something I like. They give you a lot of small bottles for the shower (shampoo etc., which is good).
At reception they give you small bottles with mineral water. It had a disgusting taste of plastic.

The best feature of this hotel is the food. Meals (we had half pension - breakfast and dinner) were terrific. Food was abundant. In each meal there were many local style foods to try - you couldn't even try everything. And each time there were different delicious and good quality foods! Yogurts, many expensive cheeses (white and yellow), meats (chicken, lamb, pork), salads, fish, hummus, Tzatziki, pastries, sweets, fresh omelets for breakfast (with your choice of bacon, onion, cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes), coffee, juices and a lot more. Service was very kind. There is room for everyone and If you get there quick enough, you can find yourself seats outside in the open air. After being spoiled in the previous days, Sunday breakfast was a bit disappointing, because everything pointed you to choose what kind of eggs you want to eat, with what side dishes. But really, it was disappointing only compared to the previous high standard - still it was very good.
What I really didn't like was the fact that you had to pay for drinks at dinner - even for mere water (3.20 euros). Gives you a cheap feeling. Some tourists bought water at the shop on the 1st level for much cheaper and brought it for dinner.

There is no free wi-fi in the room, which is disappointing. You can have up to 90 minutes of free wi-fi in the lobby. You can also use their computers in the lobby, but I couldn't manage to log in to one site through their computer. Wi-fi was pretty slow.

Another thing I didn't like at all was that many important public areas at the hotel are not handicapped accessible:
The hotel has a great private beach. The beach has an accessible path crossing it right to the water and also along the beach, which is great. However, in order to reach the beach itself, you need to descend 21 stairs (3 flights of 5, 1 of 4 and 1 of 2). Then there are 4 more steps up to the beach, and they put a ramp only for those 4 steps, beside the fact that this ramp is very steep. If you make the beach accessible, why not enable the actual access to the beach???
By the way, even if you reach the water, the ground is stony, so it might still be a problem for handicapped.
The lounge bar is also not accessible and has stairs leading to it from all entrances. Why? I don't know.
There are balconies from which you can see the nice view of the sea. All of them have only steps leading to them.
Lucky for me, my family members were able to help me reach all those inaccessible places.

As said before, the receptionists were very kind and friendly, but I also have to say they didn't give useful information. They saw that I sit in a wheelchair, but still when I asked about the beach, they sent me to the beach, without mentioning the 'tiny' fact it's not really accessible.
I also asked them whether the in room TV channels will show the World Cup matches. They didn't know, but they sent me to the bar. Yes, to the inaccessible bar... Later I found out that the in room channels did show all matches.

The pools are great (several large pools), large, clean. However there was no lifeguard - not at the pools nor at the beach, which is a bit weird and dangerous. I should also mention that the pools are quite deep. Maybe I missed a children's pool, but the others tend to become deep very quickly after entrance.

It's not the hotel's fault, I guess, but I should mention that the area around the hotel is ill developed. The sidewalks are narrow, uneven, sometimes bad or even missing. No ramps for handicapped. The road is a main road and is very busy - not easy to cross and has few crosswalks, with no traffic lights. Mainly the area has supermarkets, souvenir stores and restaurants. Disappointingly - no nice promenade along the sea.

You can't walk to the capital city - it's not so close by foot and also the sidewalk disappears close to the city and the road goes uphill. However, taxi to the capital city costs just 10 euros and 8 euros back. It's a very short and pleasant drive, so the location of the hotel is fine (unless you plan to really live in the city). It's also not far from the airport. You can also go to the city by bus (we didn't try it).

All in all, don't get the wrong impression - the hotel is fine, but it disappoints with accessibility issues and with obvious attempts to save money on the expense of your convenience, so I expected more from it. I would give a 3.5, but since it's not possible, and since 3 is too low for it, I give it a 4.

Room Tip: We liked the view to the sea.

The Sheraton on Rhodes is of a very good standard, exactly what i expect from the Sheraton brand.
The hotel is well located, being only a 10 min taxi from Rhodes Town.
Facilities are all clean and well kept, we only used one pool (6th floor), but the others also looked great.
All staff we encountered seemed friendly and helpful.
Breakfast can get busy at times, but high standards are still upheld at all times.
We did not eat any dinners in the hotel, but had some good lunches.
I would recommend this place to anyone.
Our bed was extremely comfortable.
