When we arrived we were quite impressed with our room. It was quite spacious with a table & two chairs and plenty of storage space. There was also a small fridge (not a mini-bar) so there was somwhere to keep water chilled. A half bottle of the Greek house red wine had been left for us.

We had a balcony with a sea view, but as we were on the side of the building (most of the rooms are as the hotel only has a small frontage) we were looking at the sea across two roads and through a break in buildings on the seafront. It was worth the small extra cost though because in the afternoon when it went cooler around the pool the sun was on the balcony.

When we went into the restaurant Nikos, the head waiter, who speaks excellent English, greeted us and showed us to a table, which he did at every meal time. We were asked at breakfast if we wanted tea or coffee and it was brought in jugs to the table. Meals are all buffet style with an excellent choice of hot and cold food. At breakfast a chef would make pancakes and omelettes of your choice to order and in the evening he would cook the speciality of the day. Wines were all Greek.

Rooms were cleaned every day and towels changed daily and the bed linen changed quite often.

Snacks, tea & coffee were available from the bar during the day and could be eaten on the terrace overlooking the sea or by the pool.

The pool is fairly small and there are only around 18 sunloungers, but we always managed to get one when we wanted one, probably because many people went on the beach.

All the staff were very friendly and most spoke English, but appreciated the odd word of Greek, such as kalimera, which means good morning.

The hotel is ideally situated for both the new town and the old town, which is very characterful. Go out of the hotel by the front entrance, cross to the seafront and turn right and a walk of around twelve minutes brings you to Mandraki harbour, where the boats leave each morning for Lindos, Symi, and Marmaris in Turkey.

Our Thompson holiday rep wanted 40€ each for a boat trip to Lindos, but we booked locally ourselves and got the trip on the Glaros I for 23€ each. The boat took two and three quarter hours sailing along the coast down to Lindos, which is a beautiful small village of whitewashed buildings with a small beach. We had three hours there and then sailed back with a stop off a small bay for swimming.

A walk past the harbour of another five or ten minutes brings you to one of the entrances through the walls of the old town. The old town is mainly pedestrianised, although you have to beware of the scooter riders in the small alleyways. It's remarkably well preserved and is now a world heritage site. There are lots of bars, restaurants, and souvenir shops.

Two bars that I would recommend are Stergios Corner, which is on both sides of Socratous Street, one of the main streets. You can sit outside, have a drink and watch the world go by. Another good bar on the same street, between a break between two buildings is Socratous Garden. It's an outdoor bar in a garden with trees and shrubs and water features.

A good way of seeing Rhodes Town is to take the land train. It costs 5€ and departs from the Mall 2 which is not far from the hotel. The journey takes around 50 minutes, you don't get off the train, but it stops for photos at the Acropolis above Rhodes.

If you want to post cards the post office is opposite the harbour, and there is a post box near the hotel. Go out of the side entrance, cross the two roads and you'll see a yellow post box next to the kiosk.

There are two mini-markets near the hotel where you can buy bottled water and snacks. Go out of the front entrance, turn right and take the first turn on the right.

The only criticisms that I have of this hotel are of the lack of information in the bedrooms. For example, there was no information as to the cost of hiring the safe, or of using the phone, and how to use the fridge. We thought that it wasn't working, but in fact the fuse had been switched off. Also, when we arrived we were not told by reception how to switch on the lights in the bedroom. You have to insert the raised part of the key fob into a round hole beneath the light switch. We arrived feeling very tired late at night and this wasn't something that was immediately obvious to us.

If you are British and go with Thomsons who seem to be the only British company that stays there be aware that the Thomson rep only comes to the welcome meeting and if you want to see them again you have to phone the UK at international rates to make an appointment for them to come and see you.

The hotel seemed to appeal to people of all ages. There were couples with babies, families, twentysomethings and older people.

The beach immediately across the road from the hotel is a mixture of sand and shingle. If you want a sandier beach turn left and there's another beach just a short walk away.

All in all this is one of the best hotels that I've ever stayed in and I highly recommend it.

We stayed in the hotel for 11 days in early June 2009. We choose it based on the reviews in TA and found it to be very close to the reviews on the site.

The good points
close to beach (1 min), old town and new town (5 to 10 mins). it is an easy walk although some of the street and paths are cobbled

very reasonably priced drinks in the bar and restaurant
very nice staff especially in the restaurant
rooms are nice size and have a fridge. we stayed at the back of the hotel and had afternoon sun which was very nice.
food in the restaurant was fine. there was always a good choice and a freshly cooked dish by the chef in the evening

The not so good points
small pool. we were aware of this and did not cause us a problem but this would be an issue for people with young children
the bathrooms could be bigger and could do with being lifted. the room could be modernised.

There is a nice Swedish cafe behind the hotel for sandwiches during the day.

The beach at the front of the hotel is quite busy with a lot of local people so there was always a good atmosphere. The sea was very nice although it get deep very quickly. The beach at the back of the hotel can be quite windy and rough.

The old and new towns are very nice. We tended to go the new town in the evening for drinks as there were more locals in the bars. The old town in the main street can be very touristy and I would recommend walking away from the main streets and exploring.

We hired a car on the net and picked it up after a few days. Note that the car hire companies are close to the airport so you may have to go back to the airport to collect the car. Our company brought and the collected the car from the hotel which was a lot easier. There is loads of on street parking around the hotel.

We would stay in the hotel again.

We have just returned from an enjoyable week at this hotel. It has a modern, light and airy feel and the location could not be bettered - right near the beach and a short walk from the old town. We particularly liked the restaurant which was well organised, the staff friendly and the food good. If one were to nitpick the bathroom fittings were a bit outdated but it was all very clean and everything worked! We would go back, no hesitation.

We have stayed at this hotel twice, and have mixed feelings about this hotel.

Minus:
> The rooms are very weared down and desperately needs redecoration.
> The baathrooms has also sign of many years of use and of the the bathrooms we had smelled strangely.
> One room we had - had had a water leakage , and the carped was rotten underneath. We complained to the reception manager, who was everything else than helpfull. it was just like she took this complaint personally. After 2 nights in this awfull room and several complaints .. we managed to get another room.

Pluss:
> Excellent location
> Good food
> Friendly staff

If this hotell does some desperately needed redecoration, we will definitively book this hotel at our next holidays to Rhodes.

Went on last minute holiday with my wife. What a lovely hotel, ideally situated for Old Rhodes, and right across from the beach.Rooms were a little tired, but hotel in general was excellent.Staff always helpful and pleasant, bar staff particularly so.We were on half board and both breakfast and evening meals was top quality. The restaurant staff always smiling and efficient and brilliantly led by Nicos the restaurant manager,Only downside is that the pool is very small with few sunloungers, but what the hell the beach is only a stones throw away.Perhaps clientelle a little old for the younger generation.Theanks for a lovely holiday IBISCUS.
