Ibiscus Hotel
Ranked #10 of 126 Hotels in Rhodes Town
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 10, 2011

Booked our second stay direct with Mr Manolis at the hotel by email. We requested a room overlooking the square to the side of the hotel as the balcony got the afternoon sun and were allocated exactly what we requested. The room was extremely clean and all sheets and towels were changed daily. The hotel provides free air conditioning during the hot season, which is very welcome! We chose half board and the quality and varied choice of the buffet dinners was excellent - if anything better than our stay last year. The buffet selection was largely the same every day at breakfast, but complimentary Bucks Fizz was an addition from last year. The airy bar provides free self-service nibbles in the evening. The location of the Ibiscus is excellent - opposite the beach, close to many local tavernas, 10 minutes walk from Mandraki harbour for boat trips and about 20 minutes walk from the fabulous Old Town. The staff at Ibiscus go out of their way to ensure their guests have a wonderful stay at their hotel.

Most of the guests were older couples, this may have been a reflection that it was not in the school holiday period, but it was a good centre for a family break. Parking available outside the hotel. Wifi charges a bit steep for this day and age. There were a number of power cuts in the area when we stayed, possibly due to industrial action at the power stations but hotel had its own generator.

Once again we had a delightful two weeks in this hotel. We are sure that we could find fault with it if we really tried but if you expect perfection you are always going to be disappointed. As before everybody without exception, receptionists, restaurant and housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. No-one laughed at our attempts at speaking Greek and many were willing to help us add to our vocabulary, especially Nikos the Maitre D, for which were were very grateful. As before there was plenty of food and you were spoilt for choice, in fact the problem is to stop yourself from overeating. The service is exceptional with attentive staff providing an extra knife and a plate of cheese when realising that this is what you normally have with fruit for dessert and there was none left at the starter buffet as it was after 2100 hours.

The hotel is clean and everything works as it should. Although at the very northern tip, we would recommend this as an ideal base to visit anywhere on the island as it easy to get to the main roads south without driving through the busy part of Rhodes Town. Some people have commented that the pool is on the small side, but with the Mediterranean outside the front door and the Aegean at the rear surely that’s enough swimming space for anyone.

Other places to visit.
Walk from Laerma to Moni Tharri through the fields, but first visit the Igkos restaurant on the left hand side of the road just up the road from the church and the owners will draw you a very simple map of a lovely walk to the monastery. Remember to keep on the main track until you get to the bottom of the hill and also to go left when you get to the T junction at the military depot. The stream bed may or may not be dry, depending on the time of year but there are stepping stones just downstream a little.

The owner will suggest you return via the main road but if it is hot it might be nicer to retrace your steps through the woods and fields. Once back in Laerma you can stop at the Igkos restaurant for some wonderful iced spring water and coffee even if you don’t want any food.

Visit Asklepio
If you are staying at Kiotari you can walk up to Asklepio and see the church, the museum and walk on up to the castle remains. From the castle there are wonderful views both inland and seaward and the dry valley below Asklepio appears like a huge glacier. There is a track leading from the castle back to the coast but a visit to the Agaritos Taverna opposite the church is worthwhile, if only for a drink, to see the view from the terrace and enjoy the breeze. As in most places there is a warm welcome and questions about where you have come from.

Hotel Ibiscus is a great place to stay while in Rhodes. We chose it for its proximity to the Old Town, and then were pleasantly surprised to find that we were also on the beach! It's next to the large casino and several good restaurants, including Tamam and Olive. Very nice rooms, very reasonable price. Great breakfast buffet.

Excellent location. It was easy to walk to shops, restaurants, beach, bars. The hotel could use a little updating (old green carpets would be better removed) and curtains and bedding could be replaced, but overall it is a great hotel with excellent front desk service. The staff is friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was super, bar area and pool area were nice. Internet access was 2 euros for 30 mins in the lobby.

Having read the positive reviews of this hotel we were keen to see if they were true. They were. Admittedly our bathroom could have done with some tlc but then it was the end of the season so you have to allow for that, but the rest of the hotel was clean and well looked after. The reception staff and chambermaids were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The restaurant was exceptional and extremely well run by Nikos the Maitre D, who is a hands-on boss. Nothing missed his keen eye and the professionalism of his staff was evidence of this. There was ample, good quality food at all times with a wide choice to suit all tastes and the house wine was very good and not too expensive. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and are thinking of returning next year.

Enjoyed our stay at the Ibiscus although in early October most people staying were in the 60+ age group and from all over Europe. As others have said the beds are very hard. The rooms have a fridge and hair dryer, bathrooms are small and have showers over a small bath.
Food was very good, but sometimes the cooked breakfast was cold. Evening meal's were good with a selection, usually involving Chicken, Salmon, Veal & Pork. Nikos and dining room team were excellent and very friendly unlike the reception staff, who found it hard to even smile. We paid for a sea view and were put in a room looking onto the side of the hotel next door, when we complained the receptionist said we would have to speak to the manager the next day, obviously they new we were in the wrong room as when we mentioned it to the rep, he already new about it, but no apology and we had to wait until after 12 for a room to become available.
There is no entertainment at this Hotel and nothing for children.
The reason I have given this a 4 rating is because of the dining staff, who were excellent. It would have been 2 for reception staff.
