We have stayed at the Esperia now for a number of years. The hotel is centrally located and it is easy to get to anywhere in Rhodes Town from the hotel. The staff are efficient and friendly, remembering "regular" guests alas the hotel is getting a little on the tired side. Bathrooms are very small and outdated and the hotel is being left behind by others in Rhodes Town that have been refurbished recently. Maintenence could do with being better you can get the same room as you had two years previously and there is still trim to furniture hanging off etc! It is a shame the owners are neglecting this their first hotel, in favour of the large impersonal ones they have build towards Kalithia and Faliraki. They used to be open all-year but now cloise during winter, but apart from a little work in the bar area, nothing has been done in the time it is closed over winter. On the whole the bedrooms are comfortable but can be noisy if over the kitchen (swimming pool view) with the clatter of plates, cutlery and glasses as during breakfast - there must be a door they can shut to reduce this noise! It should be noted the swimming pool is very small Please Esperia Group, put some love back into this hotel it is ideally situated in the town and you are letting your staff down! I would have recommended this hotel to friends a few years ago but others in the same price range (and cheaper) are overtaking it in facilities along with improvementsand being able to take a shower without a curtain sticking to you and a flood! Alas in 2011 we will try somewhere else

We stayed here for the last week of the season, the place was winding down to close but the service didn't wane. The room was a bit dingy, a huge tree took up part of our balcony blocking out a fair amount of light, and the room was riddled with mozzies because there was no air con at that time of year so we had to leave the door open, even at the end of October it was too warm to not have some air circulating. The bathroom was quite grim, sitting on the loo meant half of you was in the shower at the same time, and the vent might as well have had a neon sign inviting mosquitoes in for dinner! Needless to say, we got bitten senseless.

The staff however were fab, at no point did you feel like you were holding them up from closing for the winter, they weren't jaded from a busy summer and the room was cleaned every day with fresh towels and a cheery smile. Breakfast was lovely and very laid back, there was probably 30-40 people staying that week, mostly Scandinavian, so there was no pushing or shoving, just lots of smiles.

I can recommend going at this time of year, we saw some spectacular storms, torrential rain in the old town that lifted the manhole covers, then 10 minutes later the sun was out again and dried it all up. There's fewer tourists but more cruise ships, so it's busy during the day but quiet at night, bar street is mostly closed and so are the more flashy cocktail bars around town. In exchange though, you get fabulous service, many freebies to help get rid of stock and some of the most wonderful photos of Rhodes Town because of the variety of weather. We spent 3 days on the beach sunning ourselves, but a dip in the sea was a mistake, lol, a tad too cold by then!

We really didn't pay a lot to stay at the Esperia so we didn't expect any more than we got room wise, but the service was excellent, breakfast was great and the location not bad, though a little noisy last thing at night and first thing in the morning. If you're on a budget, want a place to rest your head and don't expect a lot then give them a try. We probably wouldn't go back again but that's just because we're getting to that stage in life where we like a bit more from a hotel room than a bed and a shower.

I travelled to Rhodes with my daughter and had booked in to La Vita, the hotel was a week's 'girlie ' break before her wedding. After an early morning flight from Gatwick and very little sleep, arrived at the hotel at midday, to be told that our room wasnt ready and that we were being moved temporarily to the Esperia for one night. Having dragged our suitcases to the hotel we were given our room keys and sent on our way. First impressions of the hotel were good, very clean and bright and that's where it ended. Our room, I can only compare to, as the broom cuboard, with an even smaller bathroom! However, we did have a balcony which overlooked the backs of shops. The bathroom was so small that you could sit on the loo, with your feet in the shower tray and wash your hands at the same time! The flush didnt work and when reported to the reception was told that we had to use the shower to flush it , this took several minutes. The TV didnt work either. Fortunately we were only staying there for one night. My main complaint is that La Vita need to get their act together with room bookings we werent travelling in the height of summer, in fact it was very quiet, if they need to transfer guests to another hotel surely they should put them up in either the Grand or the Pettit Palais, all Mitsis hotels and not a inferior hotel, what a start to a holiday! by the way, 2nd stay in La Vita, housekeeping staff and reception lovely but watch the kitchen staff - a force to be reckoned with!

I have stayed in a hotel in July 2009 for one week. Actually, reading through Tripadvisor i didn't have high expectations. And I was wrong.

This is a decent, excellent value hotel. Its location is good. Its near to beach and tourist area with nightlife and restaurants. An old-town is around 15 minutes of walking away, and i didn't have problem walking there almost everyday (for dinner).

Room was spacious, with a balcony and quiet AC device. Bathroom was on a small size, and would prefer to have it a bit larger. Rooms are fitted with TV (small selection of greek channels) and fridge. It was clean, and above all, i would only commend the service of the hotel. Breakfast was OK, good selection, just quality is sometimes left to be desired. There is also a pool, but its quite small, and i cannot see myself spending there more than an hour. Its also a bit unatractive amidst all concrete jungle. Staff was attentive and very helpful. Internet is available for a surcharge.

In any case. I was surprised, and i would stay again. Its an excellent value, two and half star hotel. If you want 4 or more stars, are used on luxury and want all-inclusive, please choose other hotel. Its also not a hotel where you would spend all day beside the hotel-pool. This hotel is what it is and does not pretend to be high class (and yes, its full of middle class... maybe a correction of the previous poster - its full of working class...). It serves mainly to agency booking, however, also for individuals is an excellent value for money (room costs from 59 EUR during high season!!!). Guest are mixed, from pensioners, to families and young people. Note, that rooms that look on the street can be quite noisy during the night (traffic and people coming/going from parties). I would say the best rooms are above the reception, overlooking to garden.

For a hotel in this price range and with such star rating the hotel is very good. Its not brilliant, but it serves its purpose. If you want better rooms, more luxury, please pay more, and at least go the nearby Petit palace...
