a sceret place to stay, great welcome, great breakfast in charming courtyard, private length of old wall to explore, convenient to port , and lively part of old city, but away from noise, and traffic. owner very helpful to check on ferry to Halki, etc. and organise taxi to bus station.

There are larger, plusher hotels in Rhodes but for us the Cava d'Oro can't be beaten. Full of old world character and charm and so peaceful but so close to the bustling centre of Old Rhodes Town.
Birgid, the owner has a fine eye for detail such as having got in some de-caffeinated coffee for my wife as she remembered this requirement from last year. She, her family and the one member of staff we encountered were warm and friendly.
thanks for another lovely stay and we are already looking forward to returning next year.

Rooms are amazinlgy decorated in the spirit of the knights of Rhodes. Rooms are big and the breakfast is good. My wife, my 16-year old daughter, and I spent three nights at the Cava d'Oro earlier this week and we loved it, above all because of the warm personality of the woman who runs the place. She's fluent in Greek, English, and German (at least--I didn't ask about other languages), and she took care of every detail to make our stay comfortable. When a small leak developed between the toilet's tank and bowl (which needed only a towel on the floor as a short term remedy), she had a repairman working on it within one hour. And then she was very apologetic for the rest of our stay about that "problem" even though it hadn't inconvenienced us at all. The breakfast is very good, featuring rich, dark breads imported from Germany and do-it-yourself freshly squeezed orange juice (a machine does the real work--you just hold an orange half against a rotating hub). The location is great--on a quiet street, but close to beaches, shopping, restaurants, the port, and the archaeological museum. It's built into a wall of the medieval castle!

My wife and daughter thought the beds were a bit hard ((just so you know), but I don't agree with them: mine was fine.

located inside the old city of Rodos, you can find all major attractions of the city, in walking distance. Also the port of Rodos is very close, just 10 minutes walking. Very quiet and friendly atmosphear with a typical but well prepared breakfast. Room was rather small with no view (a window located rather high, had a view in the internal patio).
wi-fi was good and T.V had all major satelite channels.

Room Tip: A room with view outside is reccomended

I have been to Rhodes six times and stayed at Cava d'Oro five times (they were renovating during one of my visits.) I always enjoy staying here because it is an historic building and it's on the quiet side of the old medieval town. They serve an ample breakfast which you can eat on the outside terrace. The location near the port is handy if you are going to do day trips to the islands or Turkey. The rooms are very clean and I had a small balcony which is always nice. I love the bells from St. Catherine's right down the street that ring before services. Don't miss going in to take a look at the frescoes and light a candle. Beautiful. As mentioned in other reviews, the owners are terrific and they have done a wonderful job in renovating the buildings to make them comfortable but still invoking the historic past.

Room Tip: There is no restaurant for lunch or dinner and there is no fitness center and this rating chart shou...

We returned to Cava D'Oro again this September and were delighted. We were welcomed warmly and with a half-bottle of sparkling wine. As before Brigit and her stafff were very pleasant and helpful. We had rented a car to facilitate transfer and daily access to the east-coast beaches which we find more accessible than the windy, shingly ones in Rhodes Town itself. Faliraki is ok for this but Brigit told us about Tasambika a few miles further south. We found this very pleasant with all the facilities and easy parking and it became our daily haunt.
Our evenings were spent wandering round the ever fascinating old town which is very tranquil, once you get away from the frenetic commercialism, fascinating in it's own right, immediately round the port entrance.
Last year we enjoyed our stay but the upstairs room was a bit cramped. This year we specifically requested one of the larger rooms and were very pleased. The room, still compact, was full of character and charm but had enough space to be comfortable and a fridge too! The room was downstairs and faced the quiet street but there was no noise to disturb us.
Brigit's generosity continued as she gave us a lovely bottle of olive oil and a bottle of Ouzo as we left. This year we felt the holiday to be perfect for us and had no hesitation in booking "Our Oasis" again for next September.
