“A First Rate Experience”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We were prepared to be disappointed when we got to the Mediterranean Hotel after reading comments by others.
Our experience was positive throughout.
The hotel is more of a modern design in classic big hotel style with a large lobby. Check in was smooth and quick and we were pleasantly surprised at the size of our room and bath. Both quite spacious along with a couple of side chairs, a desk and desk chair and mini-bar refrigerator. Our room was a double sea view, nothing special. We had difficulty getting the lights to work. In typical European fashion you need to put your key card in a device inside the room to turn on the electricity - except the key was not a key card but rather a heavy old fashioned key and fob. What to do? We couldn't figure it out, called the front desk and they said that the fob had a magnet and it needed to be placed on the electrical device inside the door. Simple enough, but the front desk forgot to tell us - a bit frustrating.
The internet is only available on the first floor complementary- otherwise a fairly expensive charge. The breakfast was more than adequate, quite a variety of foods, breads, deserts etc. No one should be unhappy with the breakfast served here. Much better than most hotels and waiters pour your coffee etc. My only complaint (and this was true throughout Greece) was the absolutely awful watered down fruit juices. We expected wonderful orange juice in this part of the world - wrong. The location of the hotel couldn't have been much better. Out the door and you are on the beach. Walk to the right and in moments you are at the harbor and then just a short ways further you arrive at Old Town and The Grand Masters Palace. You could spend all of your time in Old Town. It is worth the visit to Rhodes alone. Additionally, out the door, to the right and in a short block or two you are in Rhodes. Restaurants and mini-markets abound. They very nicely extended our checkout time by two hours without charge.
You will most likely enjoy the Mediterranean Hotel.
I would give it 5 stars if the internet was included in the room and the juice was better.

Room Tip: Travel tip: Pay for a sea view room.

The greatest thing about the hotel is it's location; just a few steps from the beach and 5' walk from the shops. The rooms are not a great deal and they could do with a little renovation. Pillows are very hard and the mattress too. We had a seaview room which was average with a 60's tv set. Our friends had a room at the back. The first night they couldn't sleep because of the noise of machines, probably generators. The next day they changed to a side room. The breakfast is less than average and lacking fresh juices, honey(!) and variety in general. The staff was very friendly and polite although not very professional at times (loud talkers, not serius attitude) and lacking skills eg i had a little issue with my mac and no one could help me resolve it (i'm not very familiar with technology). After three days and after having asked nearly everybody, i found someone to fix it for me; a realy nice guy who was wearing a Rolex watch (financial crisis ha?). Anyway we stayed very little time at the hotel since there too many beautiful places to visit and Rhodes is a big island full of goodies! It was o.k. in general.

When we booked this hotel it looked like 4-star hotel from pictures and services. We ordered half board from our travel agency. When we got to the hotel the room was not ready yet. So they said we have to wait about 20 min. When we get back about 30 min later we had to still wait about 20 min again before to get our room. Well we got the room about 30 min later after that. So we had to wait about 1 h and they said firs place to wait just 20 mins. The rooms were small but looked ok.. yeah. just ok not an 4-star hotel room.. Tried to get online to check some info about rhodes. But the hotels wlan costed 47€/week?! at 4-star hotel? yeaah.. Pillows were so terrible!! They were so hard that we don't even call those things pillows in Finland. and again 4-star hotel?? The best thing in room was free safety box.

But the worst thing and the biggest joke was the hotels restaurant! Breakfast was so booring. only cakes and other sweet treats.. Who will eat all those things at morning?? Where is all the fresh fruits and other good things? Ok. there were few bad looking watermelon slices.. But when got to the first dinner.. oh maan. Ok. The salad was good and i really enjoyed it. But the main meals. were so awfull! All portions were warmed and tasted so bad. I wouldn't fed that food even to my dog and i don't even have a dog. The worst thing was that we had problems with our half board reservation and we had to pay 150€ for 3 dinner for 2 people. but i payed that amount only to not have to eat that food never again.

There was something good about in that hotel also.. The location was very good.. That's about it.. I will never go back there.

Best regards,
Room 447

Dear Esteemed Guest,

Thank you for your useful feedback concerning our hotel and for spending time in writing your experience in this important travelling site.

Further to your comments we would like to inform you, of the following:
a) As far as it concerns the one- hour delay of getting your room we really apologize for the inconvenience caused, but sometimes we have to be flexible with the previous clients having the room before you, who really do not understand that according to the hotel policy 12:00 noon is the departure time in order for us to prepare it for the next client.
b) As far as it concerns your comments about the weekly internet charge of 45 €, it is the policy of the hotel to prevent overloading of the system but we promise to take it under consideration. Furthermore, there is a free use of the internet in the lobby and the common areas of the hotel!
c) As far as it concerns your board meal, there was a misunderstanding between you and the travel agency; the hotel had nothing to do with this. The reservation we had from your agency was for bed and breakfast, so it was more than expected that the restaurant of the hotel would charge you for eating there every day.
We really hope that you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back in the near future, and convince you this time that our establishment deserves the world-wide reputation it enjoys.
Yours sincerely!

Nice location right on the beach and really good breakfast. Other than that an average Greek hotel; nice lobby, worn down rooms. Free wifi in the lobby, 45€ a week in rooms(when it works). No fridge in room except minibar. Stay away the dining room, except breakfast, horrible precooked meals. Nice staff.

My stay at the Mediterranean Hotel was one of the most excellent ones I have ever had and I highly recommend this hotel for any sort of trip. We stayed in a spacious room with Partial Sea View and were moved the next day to a Front Sea View room, and we were compensated with a fresh fruit basket and a bottle of local wine, which was very kind. The staff was very kind and polite, giving useful tips about where to spend your time, have fun and sightsee. I would definately re-book a room on my next visit to Rhodes Island.

Room Tip: Rooms with Partial Sea View are more sunny during the whole day!

The hotel is nice, good location. Close to the beach and walking distance to the town center, the old town, the harbor and many good restaurant and bars. The pool is quite small, but on the other hand you have the beach right outside the door.
The breakfast is good but try go eat before 7.30. After that time the restaurant is almost full.
The prices are good and I would for sure go back there again.

This is the first poor review I've ever written.
The only thing going for this hotel is the location, it is overpriced because of this perhaps.
We were given the wrong room and this was not resolved until later the next day.
There was a used sanitary towel left in the bathroom.
The bathroom was really dark and dingy, as were the corridors.
The food was yuk, the breakfast room was worse than school dinners and the staff were unpleasant. Reception didn't even bother to ask if we had enjoyed our stay.
