Stopped by Socratous Garden today, following the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, and we were not the least disappointed!

Tugged away between two busy shops, this lush oasis offers a shady break under the orange trees, with a very friendly an humorous staff on top of it.

We ordered a couple of sodas and early lunch - one spinach pizza and the obligatory moussaka - and as other critics have mentioned, this may not be on top of the must-eat-food places, it was actually quite ok and well worth the overall price at around €25 for two dishes and the two large sodas.

The only downside was the annoying guitar player, who entered the place when we were nearly done, playing and singing just a little too loud, trying with spanish(!) tunes to outsing the authentic greek music from the restaurants sound system. Fortunately, our waiter apparently noticed our discomfort and quickly brought the bill and swiftly managed the payment, giving us a chance to leave.

Overall, worth the money, both for the meal but also for the relaxing atmosphere. An absolute must-visit on future trips to Rhodes.

We stopped in to kill some time before s ferry. Great choice! We ordered a frappe and Greek coffee, both of which were tasty. We hung around for an hour using their wifi, and didn't feel hurried or pressure to get anything else. Staff was attentive, and the garden was a great place to relax and enjoy the sun. Did not try any food, so can't review. Oh, and there was a friendly (captive) parrot at the entrance, so that's always a plus.

This restaurant/bar is situated on Socratous Street in the Old Town of Rhodes. From the square walk up Socratous Street and just over half way up on the right walk under the arch and you will find an oasis amongst the throng of shops/restaurants in this bustling part of the Town.
You will be greeted a parrot on a perch but be careful he is tempremental and does bite sometimes. He is fed by the staff so dont feed him.
The area of the restaurant is like a tropical paradise garden or oasis with numerous tables dotted around, some in the sunshine and some under cover of parasols. There is a pond with the sound of running water and glass trinkets etc in the trees trinkling in the gentle breeze and vine covered rooftops of the surrounding buildings. There is a bar in the grounds which you can sit at. The staff are very polite and quick to attend to your needs. having been here many times its nice to be recognised when i walk in now and to be greeted like a member of the family.
The food is very good and the portions are very reasonable at a reasonable price to. The cocktails are excellent and the draft Mythos is ice cool just nice to refresh yourself having spent ages wandering around the streets and shops. We had Moussaka/lamb kleftiko on one occasion which was cooked fresh that day. Other occasions we have had the gyros platter which again was served fresh.
One night in June when we were there last year (2012) there was a thunderstorm and we were under a large parasol. We were enjoying our meal and the rain was cascading down for a few minutes with the staff serving you still with the aid of umbrellas. The lightning streaking above you in the night sky was a fabulous spectacle to see and was a cherished memory to keep.
You will find many restaurants in the old town with the waiters outside harrassing you to come in and being charged extortionate prices for the views over the square. here there is no such pull and the peaceful surroundings are a fabulous place to unwind.

In the heart of the old town, we stopped for some lunch. Garden s beautiful and quite charming, but food was a bit of a let down. Moussaka wasn't fresh- this was lunch so was maybe yesterday's? Greek salad unexciting. Lovely surroundings though.

Found this place in the side streets of the old town. away from the hustle and bustle and people dragging you in! Lovely and quiet, sound of running water, palm trees and vine covered rooftops with glass charms tinkling in the trees. Traditional taverna food we had a lovely shaded lunch, (moussaka and kleftiko) and ice cold drinks.
Love stumbling across nice little places like this!
