I booked this hotel direct with the hotel via their website and I must admit it was good value for money being 40 euros a night. I requested a room with a balcony as I had read on another review site that their are a couple of rooms stuck away at the top of the hotel block with no balcony,s The hotel said they would note my request.
On arriving at the hotel I was offered a basement room no balcony and very shabby. I refused this room and was offered one of the fifth floor rooms again without balcony. This room was just under the roof and in the bathroom above the bath was a huge hole exposing pipes and things like wise where the Air/Con should have been there was again a huge hole in the wall.
I was a single traveler and asked the rather unhelpful lady on reception if this was why I had been given a poor quality room, she agreed it was and explained the other rooms had more people in them.Well all the rooms have a room with two single beds and a room with a sofa that can be converted to presumably sleep a couple of children or one adult. As all the room are the same regardless if there is a balcony or not so I cannot see it would matter whether one person was in a room with a balcony or more unless of course she was suggesting some of the people in the room were going to sleep on the balcony.
I was still dissatified and was told I could move 2 days later when the hotel was less full. On the night before I asked the same unhelpful receptionist when I would be able to change rooms she said 10.am. When I went to get the new key she then said no it would be 3.00 in the afternoon. I said I wasn not happy as I had packed al my things up and she then changed her mind and said 12.00.
The new room was the same size but had a fair size balcony but be aware some of the rooms with a balcony are not big enough to hold a chair and table.
The rooms are self catering to a point there is the usual 2 ring hob but a vast amount of utensils including a toaster, sandwich maker, moulinex mixer!!, coffee maker, blender. but the downside is if you are planning to use all this stuff you will find it difficult to keep all your ingredients cold as the fridge is only the size of a mini bar and like a mini bar has no freezing compartment and little storage space.
The rooms were kept very clean and the bathroom was a good size with hot water whenever required even on the day it was cold and rained all day.
The bed however must be one of the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in it is narrow and hard with pillows like rocks.
The hotel is in a central position about 15 minutes walk to the old town which was my main reason for booking this hotel. The old town is wonderful especially if you avoid the touristy squares and explore the back streets .It is especially atmospheric in the evening. There are lots of nice restaurants and cafes in these streets away from the crowds.
I will definately return to Rhodes but not to the Angela Apartments Maybe if you are not a single traveller they may be more obliging with the sort of room you want but if you are single BEWARE.
