We happily stumbled upon Laganis as we were waiting for the ferry to leave Rhodes. It's located next to an entrance to Old Town. We ordered a bunch of small plates of fresh Greek food. I wish we were visiting longer so we could try dinner there.

We stumbled upon Laganis, looking for some lunchtime snacks and shade. It stands out as there is no one pleading for you to go in, but it provides a family run experience that we really enjoyed.
We ate here on about five lunchtimes, each time receiving efficient and friendly service. All the food was really fresh and tasty, ranging from Greek salads and tasty olive pitas, through to Shrimps, grilled octopus and swordfish skewers, which were all tasty and really good value.
If you are looking for a cool, quiet spot, drop into Laganis and enjoy!

Laganis is tucked back at the end of Alhadef street, on the left, near the walls in the Jewish Quarter of the Medieval Town. It's difficult to find and they don't have waiters trying to attract the customers. I assure you you will have a great dinner here. It was our best dinner in Rhodes. Very few tourists here.
This traditional Greek restaurant is run by a family of fishermen so their fish is very fresh and the cooking was just perfect. Great prices too.
It is definitely the one restaurant I will return to next year the evening before I take my boat to go to other Greek islands.

Laganis was recommended to us by Nina at the Camelot Hotel. It's slightly out of the way compared to many of the restaurants (though still only a few minutes' walk) and is the kind of place you might walk past if it hadn't been recommended. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced - without the pages and pages of 'European' dishes that spoil a lot of menus in tourist destinations.
We went on a Sunday night, which had live Greek music and it really added to the experience.
We like it so much, we went back a few days later!

This year we visited Rhodes with the family. After a walk in the Old Town we passed what seemed to be an old destroyed church near the harbour's gate. At the end of the road and next to another gate of the castle was LAGANIS tavern. We had fish, mussels with garlic (excellent!!!) salads and some type of oyster that was common there. All were perfect, the service was very friendly and there were a lot of locals there eating as well, a bit loud to be honest, but they seemed to have a good time. If it was a bit better decorated, it would have been one of the best places to eat in Rhodes.
