We arrived in Rhodes late at night in November when the island is basically deserted. We headed to Taverna Kostas because of the ratings on TA, stopping first in a store we passed. We were chatting with the owner of the store and mentioned we were heading to Taverna Kostas. He knew the owner, Elias, and offered to call him to make sure he was open - it turned out the restaurant was closed for the winter. Elias told him emphatically that we were welcome anyway, and that he was already cooking dinner for his friends that evening. We felt like we were imposing, but Elias welcomed us like family (no joke, he was SO HAPPY we were there). No menu, since he wasn't actually open, so we just ate what he cooked us (and himself). It was amazing. The food was delicious. He made us stuffed peppers, stuffed tomatoes, stuffed cabbage, salad and bread. He served us what tasted like a really good mead and shots of ouzo. We stayed for hours, talking with Elias and his friends and we had a blast. We were so happy that we wandered in there and were so touched by how lovable Elias was. By the end of the night he called us his son and daughter! I highly recommend giving this place a shot.
