“Almost the perfect meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

Though there was a little silliness in the beginning ("Do you have a reservation?" in a restaurant that was close to empty when we arrived), this was and will probably be the best restaurant experience we got on the island of Rhodes.

We skipped the starters and went straight for the mains. It looked so good that we forgot to take pictures. My girlfriend had one of the meals of the day (of which there were 5 i think) which was a slow cooked lamb shank with tomato, aubergine and potato. Which can be described in what she said after having two bites: "I wish I could cook this". I had the lamb souvlaki with pistachio and mustard, which was cooked to perfection and I could only agree with the wish of knowing the recipe. With this we had the house red wine that I don't remember much about, but fit the meal very well.

For dessert we had one of the desserts of the day, of which there were 10...! They apparently have an Italian woman making desserts, and she is quite creative.
We had Leche in piedi with caramelized figs. It was to say it simply: really good.

After the meal we were offered some homemade liquor. They had 3 types: Lemon, mandarin and myrtle berry. We tried the lemon and the mandarin. The mandarin wasn't that good, but the lemon was divine. Much, much better than limonchello. So good in fact that we inquired to what it was called and how it was made. The waiter told us the recipe and offered another round.

The atmosphere isn't what i would call relaxed Greek. But that might be because there were a lot of Italians there while we were there. It reminded me more of Italy than anything else, a little bit stressed, but everyone there were happy and seemed to enjoy themselves.
We were in the garden in the back which other than being a little bit windy was very nice.
(Don't try to pet the grey cat if it's there, it's fierce.)

We're not sure, but we might have gotten the wrong bill. 2 mains, 1 dessert, 2 bottles of sparkling water and 1/4 liter of wine came to little just over 40 euros for us.

“Nice cousine, sweet garden seating, decent value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

I had heard a lot about this restaurant before visiting. Thats why in the begining I was a bit disappointed because I expected much more. After thinking it over after a while I am clear that it is good value for money.

The cousine is mostly mediterranean and the food is simplistic with no exaggerations or experimental creativity. The tastes are balanced in a smooth minimal way and the cooking was proper (i.e. lamp ribs we ordered were exactly cooked as requested).
The service was not very professional but very friendly and helpful.
The garden was very nice maintained and it was a fine environment to dine.
Pricerange was ok for a non cheap-touristic restaurant in the centre of the old city of Rhodes (starters aroun 6-9€, salads around 10€, main courses around 15€).

Would recomend as a nice hide-out from the busy touristic restaurants full of guided tourists that overun the old city.

“we were told to go here, but why?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

has a nice feel, but no air circulation and pretty average food and higher prices. think it might have been better once, as we saw other people looking curious at their dinners.

“Beware of the nasty grey cat”

We dined at Marco Polo on the recommendation of our hotel owner. Food is tasty and reasonably priced. Really enjoyed the baked fish - thought a little less of the baked beef steak but vegetables fabulous.

“Good food, nice atmosphere, slow service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

Nice food, well prepared, in a lovely courtyard....but its a slow meal.
The owner and his wife seem a bit more concerned with their bigger tables and friends...
I thought the night was enjoyable, but they could work on their service.
