We stayed at the Matina from 30th of May 2012 to 13th June , i booked it with Asda holidays after finding it online and we wanted to go back to Rhodes again as it is our favourite Greek destination. After last years problems we had in Corfu (Elly beach hotel) i was still concerned about going but all the Matina's good reviews on here came good and the check-in was great , we were in our room almost instantly . Everything about the place was very clean , our room was perfect for what we paid and better than most others we've had on other holidays. The beds and pillows were very comfortable , the balcony large , very private and really quiet at night with a nice view inland . The fridge was ice-cold and we had all we needed to self-cater .
Sheets and towels are changed every day which is a bonus and we always had hot water , the air-con was good as well , it got up to 35 degrees in our second week so the 5 euro a night was well worth it . All the staff were so helpful and very friendly , thanks to Socrates , Voula , Manolis and everyone else at the Matina .
Outside the pool is spotlessly clean and nice and large with plenty of space around it . All the food we had from the pool bar was great , very good value as were the drinks , great frappe's , cold beer and the best cocktails . The chicken gyros pita at 2.70 euro is a must -have (thats only about £2 ) . The shop in the hotel is good also , you can get a bottle of wine for 3.50 euro and the same for 20 cigarettes if thats your thing ! The whole feel of the place is very laid-back and relaxed and you feel at home straight away . It is about 8-10 minutes easy flat walking to the beach , which you should go to as the sea is so clear ( 8 euro for 2 sunbeds and umbrella for the day) and the same to bars and restuarants , a couple of supermarkets are probably 5 minites walk . All the food we had in the local places was superb , Mario's by the harbour , Victoria on the beach and Pete's place up in Faliraki across the road and round the corner from the "asda" supermarket . If you want a taxi just ask at the desk and one will appear in what seemed to be aboout 2 minutes ha ha , Rhodes old-town was 18 euro each way but there were 4 of us so its not bad value considering your there so quickly . We will be going back to the Matina as soon as work and money will allow , having stayed in lots of Greek hotels this was by far the best for the money . You could pay a lot more and go all-inclusive but you get watered-down drinks, poor food and sleepless nights due to too many drunks etc , the Matina cost us for two weeks slightly less than an all-inclusive including our spending -money and for that your getting great food and drinks , great people , no loud drunks and peace and quiet etc at night and round the pool during the day . Can't wait to go back .
