Myself and boyfriend have just returned from the Hotel Calypso Beach after staying for 10days.
We booked through Thomas Cook and arrived at the hotel at 9pm. We checked in without a problem although the receptionist did speak at a rate of knots! Then the porter took our bags to our room on the second floor.
The room itself was great, lovely balcony that overlooked the sister hotel but we could still see the beach. Yiu are given beach towels as well as normal towels. These are changed daily which is a plus point. The bed is quite low and a bit hard but to be honest we still managed to have a good nights sleeps. The rooms are cleaned every day too.
That evening we went to the buffet restaurant and were greeted by Niko the restaurant manager, very welcoming and friendly. Afterwards we sampled the cocktail list from the main bar, very impressive!!
We had a meeting with our rep Milly, who was very approachable and knowledgable about the hotel and Rhodes itself. We booked the Medevial Knight trip to Rhodes Town, which includes a late afternoon tour of the town, a meal, time spent to wander the streets and then a evening cruise along Mandaki Harbour. Rhodes Town is beautiful packed with history and small windy streets. Our second trip was to Lindos for a half day. Fantastic day, we would recommend seeing the Acropolis! A fair climb to the top certainly in 35 degree heat but worth it!! 6 Euros to enter, you can also get a donkey to take you up and down. But the climb isnt too bad, just take water with you!
Back to the hotel- the sunbed situation that seems to be mentioned in most reviews wasnt a problem for us. It may be because we went in September but the hotel was still packed. We managed to get the same sunbeds for the 10 days we stayed. Perfect view of the beach but close to the pool bar. Plus the beach is just a short step away, loved swimming in the sea!
The hotel has a pool bar and snack bar, the snack bar is probably easiest for lunch, lots of salads, pasta, burgers, chips etc. Try the kebabs they are amazing!! The pool bar was great for beers, wine, coctails, ice teas and soft drinks. We did find sometimes the pool bar staff could be a tad off hand but whether that just be their nature we werent sure. The staff in the buffet restaurant, a la carte, snack and main bar were fantastic very friendly! Partiularly George in the main restaurant, such a lovely man, also chatty and friendly each day and we got the same table each night. Also George and Stavros we make the best cocktails in the main bar!!!
You can visit the a la carte once during your stay and should book within 2 days after arrival as it can get busy. We went half way through our visit, it didnt blow us away, the food was bit cold and my boyfriends chicken was very dry. It was fine but the main restaurant we found was much better.
The main restaurant was excellent, beautiful views over the sea. The food was great, lots of choice. The desserts in particular were fantastic! Most nights they have a theme whether it be Rhodian night, Italian night. But the best one was the Greek Night, they closed the restaurant and we ate on the terrace overlooking the pool and the sea, the spread of food was amazing. Salads, fruit, desserts, pastas and they had a BBQ cooking chicken, kebabs and ribs. What a super night!!
The entertainment is hotel standard but the animation team work so hard during the day and night. However, a few nights they were live music, singers, dancers. The one we enjoyed most was Stardust-four girls who dance and sing to 40s, 50s, 60, 70s music, They were great very enjoyable evening.
The pool area is great lovely lagoon style with a slide and water fall feature, perfect for cooling off. It was always clean and it had a lovely aray of plants, flowers and trees, very tropical feel.
We were only a 20minute walk to Falaraki which was great to stretch our legs and we did go out a few times, nice bars and clubs but the streets are lined with people trying to entice you to go in! There is only a shopping complex and some bars and cafes to the right of the hotel about a 10min walk. Great for a change and some souvenirs.
There were a few things that did niggle us, the mini bar is not restocked after you arrive. It would be nice if water or soft drinks could be topped up daily. In the evening when we were geting ready it would have been nice to watch other TV channels other than BBC World Service and CNN. Some of the reception staff could be friendly particularly when we checked out. We asked about the courtesey room to use and she basically said to us in a curt way come back after 6 and ask then, then she walked off. Not the best check out we have had, not even asked if we enjoyed our stay.
Overall the hotel is super, lovely pool area, most staff very friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely time just relaxing and enjoying the high 30 degree sunshine. Would certainly return in the future.

Room Tip: Our room was 246 and overlooked the road but could still see the beach. Can be a bit noisy if you sl...

Just returned from there. It is a lovely hotel with great atmosphere. You can spend 2 weeks in the hotel without ever leaving it and feel perfectly well, even if I would not recommend it because Rhodos is a very beautiful island with lots to discover. The rooms are very large and tastefully decorated, everything functioned perfectly in our room. The beds were quite hard, but this problem got solved with an additional mattress which was brought to your room 3 minutes after we complained at the reception. The food was very good too, consisting mainly of natural products which you can mix according to your taste. The meal/pork and the greek dishes are great too; there is always at least one greek speciality at every meal. For those who cannot find anything to suit their taste (which I can hardly imagine), there is always spaghetti and chips at every meal too. It is a pity that breakfast and dinner are served in the restaurant which is not open-air, but it has a nice atmosphere and is air-conditioned. Lunch is served both in the restaurant and in the snack bar outside. There are three bars to choose from, one open until 11 p.m., another one until 12 p.m. and the third until 2 a.m., you can order imported drinks and don't have to pay for it, it is really all inclusive. There is also a cosy open-air terrace with white sofas where you can take your drink and relax with sea-view. You can choose between a big lawn, the pool and the beach to spend your time during the day; there are sun beds everywhere, and while it is indeed complicated to find a sunbed near the pool if you get up after 8 a.m. (in September), there are ALWAYS free sun beds on the beach which is indeed very big. The staff is immaculately friendly; on our arrival, we were immediately greeted and welcomed by the restaurant manager who is there every day at all meals (!) and greets all guests personally. The waiters work very fast, and most of them always have a smile and nice words for you. There is no comparison to Turkey where I always had the impression that the staff wants something from me or tries to 'use' me in some way. In this hotel, everyone is friendly, whether you give them tips or not. The only persons who were not really friendly were at the beach bar, and they still did their job fast and without problems. ANY problem we have seen in these two weeks came from the guests; especially English guests are unfortunately often very unfriendly and ill-bred, though I generally have a very good opinion on the English. The hotel itself is just perfect and does everything to make you feel well. We saw many (obviously) regular guests cuddling the waiters and talking to them in the most intimate manner, which is a sign that you are not just treated a paying guest in this hotel but as a welcomed one.

We thought we would be staying in the Calypso Beach hotel as pictured and advertised on Alpharooms website, however, they had slipped the word Palace into our confirmation. And with us unaware there were two Calypso hotels, and thinking we had booked what was pictured on there website, we were in for a shock when we got delivered to its sister hotel across the main road from the Calypso Beach! The hotel we were dropped at did not have us as a family of 5 needing a cot either!
Thankfully the Calypso hotels tried to put right what Alpharooms had missold us, we were still able to use the pools and beach etc, but due to the busy time of year, they were unable to give us a room at the Calypso Beach, The Palace is more of an adults hotel, and so a cot and highchair were bought across the road for us from the Beach hotel, the hotel also gave us a card so we could eat at the Beach rather than the Palace.
The hotel it self was fantastic and we couldn't fault it. Just Alpharooms who missold/advertised the hotels, which has now been put right on there website funny enough!

Went here on family holidaying July , normally go to turkey ,wish I'd still gone to our usual.
This was such a disappointment , after looking at the reviews it looked good so we thought we'd try it for a change.
Believe what you read , don't expect to get a lay in and relax , most people got up between 5am and 6am to reserve a sunbed! I couldn't believe it , but you actually have to join in with them else the result is no sunbed for the day.
The beach was great but the sand unbearably hot! , food just average, wine average, service average!
We do 5 star in turkey and there is a massive jump from that to this hotel , so will not be returning to greece anymore , this sounds like a miserable review , but just being honest so you don't waste your money!

We've recently returned from a 10 day holiday at the Calypso Beach, and all of my family are missing it!
I'm not going to write a long review about all the positives and (the very few) negatives, as I agree with most of the reviews about this hotel already on here.
The food was excellent - great choice and quality every morning / lunchtime and evening. The pool and beach area were always clean and tidy (true about the sunbed problems unfortunately).
Our two children (13 and 10) really enjoyed all of the activities each day - water polo, table tennis, football, darts.... and Happy Dance :o) They also made good friends with other English kids - so we didn't see them from one meal to the next!
Local water park makes a brilliant day out... there were good slides / pools for small kids and big kids alike! We also really enjoyed an evening out in Rhodes town.
Finally, the hotel staff were absolutely brilliant - always smiling and happy to help at Reception, and particularly the Manager - Nikos - who always greeted everyone in the restaurant...
Keep it up guys - this is a brilliant hotel!!

Room Tip: We had a 6th floor room overlooking the road - but had no problems with noise...

Booked through Thomas Cook for 2 weeks at the 4* Calypso Beach Hotel and flew from Birmingham which was a first. Usually fly from Gatwick but the good flight times appealed to us. We had pre booked private transfer from the airport to the hotel as I could not be doing with traipsing around other hotels on the coach waiting to be dropped off 1 1/2 later. Took 20 mins in a air conditioned car.

HOTEL CHECK IN
Very short wait to check in, friendly and efficient staff, whole process took no longer than 5 mins. Bell boy took our cases to our room. We were ready to enjoy our holiday at 8.30 pm on the Saturday evening.First impressions really happy with our choice of hotel.

ROOM
A nice sized sea view room (for an extra charge) if upgrading to a see view room upon arrival expect to pay an extra €220 a week extra. Plenty of wardrobe space, a safe (no charge), excellent air con (no charge), a fridge stocked with a small selection of soft drinks which is not replenished. Bathroom compact but good powerful shower, big mirror with good light, shaving mirror and space for toiletries. A tip if you don't like heights, the balcony has coloured glass (blue) in stead of a wall so when you are sat on your balcony you can see what is going on below without looking over a wall. Because of this my wife could not sit out there and we could not enjoy the view as we would have liked. If you don't like heights don't opt for a sea view room and save some money.

Bathroom towels are changed daily, beach towels are changed on request. Only criticism of the room is the pillows are tiny, flat and only one each. Although the maids are in daily they don't really clean properly, the bed is made and toilet cleaned, all other surfaces are not touched which was disappointing.

SUNBATHING
Due to the type of holiday (package) if you want a sun bed the front row of the pool then you will need to rise really early to place your towel on your grabbed bed. However if you are not that fussed there are plenty of beds around. Our usuall spot was in front of the tennis court, plenty of shade (it is really hot) in between the pool and the beach and close enough to the toilets and pool bar. The pool is your typical hotel pool. The sea is lovely, clean and warm. This is a blue flag beach which is nice. You will need some beach shoes, flips, crocs etc and the walk from the walkway to the sea is stoney and very hot (burn feet). Once in the sea it has a sandy bottom so everybody leaves their shoes off.

FOOD
Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner excellent. First off the quality of the food is very good, the range on offer at each meal time was excellent. Not sure what planet some people are from complaining about the lack of choice (planet Pot Noodle I guess). Yes there is a lot of pork, veal & chicken (which I like) but also fish, turkey, rabbit, other sea food, plenty of chips for the fussy ones and a fantastic range of salads.

Beer, Wine & soft drinks on tap for Lunch & dinner so is juice for breakfast. Unfortunately the juice is not fresh, extremely sweet and not very pleasant. The waiting staff & Maitr'de are very efficient, always clearing plates as soon as you are finished. Great service.

We received first class service from all staff. We sat in the same area for breakfast & dinner so we had a regular server who got our coffee or Vino each time. We do not go on holiday to become best friends with our waiter/waitress or bar tender as some people appeared to do. I can do that at my local Girraffe. I am sure if you attempted to become friends with your server the service would be even better.

LIFTS
I had an issue with these. I was forever waiting for a lift. There are not enough. There are 3 lifts for 7 floors with I don't know how many rooms to a floor but god this did annoy me.

OTHER
Intnernet. There is an Internet corner, €2.50 for 30 mins or Wi-Fi which I used once. €10 for a 24 hour period. Wi-Fi only available in reception area and in our room which was on floor 2, no connection by the pool or beach.
Facilities not used
Kids club, spa, gym, pedalows

OUT AND ABOUT
Getting around Rhodes is a doddle by bus or the noddy train! Yes the noddy train. From the hotel left is Falaraki right is Kalithea & Rhodes. Each bus trip is €2.20 each for a single. Bus stop right outside hotel which is great. Caught the bus to Rhodes one evening which was nice (don't sit at the back of the bus as extremely hot evening with air con on). The old town is quite beautiful, well worth a visit. This you do not need to do on an organised tour. Even for a new/ nervous adventerour the bus drops you off at the old town (final destination) and this is where you get back on the bus (destination Falaraki) all for only €2.20. The drivers call out via a microphone what the next stop is so there is no chance of missing your stop.

Due to downloading, we used all our daily credit for iPad in a few hours. We turned off roaming, got a 24 hour wi-fi access from hotel reception €10 and downloaded newspapers & magazines for the day.

CHECK OUT
check out is 12 noon. Our flight was not until 9pm so we opted to keep our room on until 6pm for an additional charge of €55.

ENTERTAINMENT
There is always entertainment laid on every evening of various standards. We didn't see much of it as it is not our sort of thing.

AL LA CARTE RESTAURANT
We accepted the offer of one visit per stay. Like a lot of other TA's we were disappointed. Totally confused as to what they are offering or trying to achieve! The room set aside for this is an all enclosed, no windows, no atmosphere room. Had they decorated it like a traditional Greek Taverna with tradional Fayre to match, Great. I get it. Unfortunately they didn't so I didn't get what type of experience I should have been experiencing other than a break from the main restaurant. Fine dining it wasn't.

AIRPORT DEPARTURE
Atrocious. The queues are horrendous. A long queue for check in, then a long queue to check your luggage in and then another queue for passport control.
Food at the airport. Don't bother. Don't wait till the airport for food, it will be a long flight. The food on offer is extremely poor. Dried rolls, hot dogs and crisps from a small kiosk. Again the queue for this is so long you just won't bother with and will hungry on the flight if you have not booked a meal. The queue for the one food outlet was back up to half the terminal.
Men's toilets. 9 urinals, 5 not working (black bags over them). No soap in dispensers, no paper towels. Minging

OVERALL
Great holiday, really pleased with our choice of hotel, food, drink, location and the weather.

Would definitely recommend.

This hotel was everythinhg we expected and surprisingly a little bit more. We stayed there as it was close to our daughters wedding venue and we thouroughly enjoyed the experience.

The food is good and there is always something for everyone. I am a very fussy eater and there was always enough choice even for me! All drinks are included and in the main they are branded labels. Only the cocktails are of a more local/cheaper brand, but please beware... they are not shy with their measures!

The beer is ok but you can buy more (known to the UK residents) beers in the on-site shop. The evening entertainment is typical holiday hotel stuff and the restaurant does vary the meal choices with Italian/Greek nights etc.

There is a good selection of activities for kids and adults if you are williing to take part, with no pressure from the staff. Only big issue is the hogging of sunbeds as mentioned in previous reviews. We did ask one of the attendents if there were any free sunbeds and he went to a few that had not been occupied for a couple of hours and removed the towels. This should be a standerd policy to be honest. I have stayed in other hotels were if you had not used your bed within 2 hours your towels were removed and could be collected at reception, it is certainly needed here. The hotel is also shared facilities with its sister the Calypso Palace situated accross the road. The guests from there block beds on the main side as they want to both swim in the sea and then chill out by they pool before going back to their hotel (which has its own pool, just no beach).

The hotel staff are very helpful and pleasant. Our daughters wedding was at the same time and they upgraded the couple to a seaview room, supplied them with champagne, fruit and chocolates on arrival and the same again on their wedding day. They seem to like to know if there are any special occasions for your party during your stay.

The lifts are a bit hit and miss as they tend to have a mind of their own. There is an ironing room on each floor but until you realise its in the room marked "no entry/staff only" you may have a bit of a search. There is a mini bar in the rooms which is stocked with a small selection of soft drinks this is not replenished during your stay.

Only down side is the wardrobe doors. They are full length double doors made of glass and it is not safety glass as we found out to our peril. We had a very nasty accident with the doors and they should either be removed or at least changed for safety glass. if you slip or loose your footing in the room as you come out of the bathroom you've had it, and a lengthy visit to the hospital is ensured. There are a few rooms that have the doors or at least some of them missing due to breakage so please be careful especially with young children!

Overall we had a very pleasant experience at the Calypso Beach and would go back.

Room Tip: Wifi a bit costly at 4 Euro for and hour. No tea/coffee facilities. Hair dryer in wash room, air con...
