“nice greek style”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

I stayed in the Marianna hotel for a week on the beginning of september and everything was good.
It was a pleasant stay. Clean and nice room (15 if I remember correctly) with mountain view so no traffic noise.
The pool is clean, large and deep enough. Bar area is around the pool and Alex, the barman it is a really nice guy.

The location is good, with not so much traffic around.
If you stay here avoid room 11, as it's right next to reception, and it seems like the manager can't talk on the phone normally, she always shouts. And her family members are the same when they visit. No way to relax on the balcony.
Rooms are ok with safe box and aircon which are free.
The toilet bins in the room needs more frequent attention.
The pool is big with plenty of sunbeds around.
The poolbar in the hotel is small but it's manned by a STAR! Alex the barman is doing a great job. We had some really great time at the bar in the evenings. One thing i'd suggest though is putting more chairs around the bar. And maybe replace the existing ones with some that don't hurt your bum while you're sitting on them. But as I understand the bar is owned by some guy we saw just once during our stay and he clearly doesn't care about the place.

I would have rated this lower because of the noise from the reception, but will add an extra star for the true reason I would come back to this hotel - Alex. Keep in touch and if you move to a better hotel let us know so we can book there next year.

Room Tip: Avoid room 11. Any room close to reception is a nightmare!

2 weeks in this lovely old style greek hotel, we had a lovely stay in room 7 on B&B basis we were given room 6 which has a tiny balcony but as we like to sit out in the evening and read and have a drink we asked if any other rooms were available and Maria was very pleasent and gave us room 7, we hired a fridge 25 euros a week but worth it for cold drinks in our room. They do not charge for the aircon which is rare and great but many people left on all day which is a bit unfair with electric costs so high ! Breakfast was good, plenty available. The pool was fantastic nice and clean loads of room around it, plenty of loungers, the bar is not run by the hotel but by a beach front reasturant which is a shame and the only negative we found, Alex the bar man is an aquired taste we found him rude and surley others commented but it didnt deter them from using the bar, we prerfered not to go to the pool bar in the evening. The beach is black gravel not black sand which was a not to our taste, the location is fantastic, Mesa Vouno behind the hotel is a great walk which we did many times to visit Kamari on the other side and the tiny church. Marks bikes opposite the big co-op were very good for quad hire and the Posidon restraunt at the far end of the beach front walk after the second barrier, was fab service and good food and prices, really very good value unlike many restaurants in the very beautiful Thira & Oie which were very expensive Santorini is expensive island mainley due to the curise boats coming in so check prices first we saw the local brew red Donkey beer at 16 euros in one bar in Oie, bit too rich for us ! We flew with Thomsons good flight times and service but such tight leg room we are average size and were uncomfortable and hot. We had a great holiday and would recommend the Marianne, thank you Maria and team.

Myself and my husband stayed in the marianna hotel for two weeks at the end of August beginning of September. We arrived late at night and was greated by Maria (the owner) and alex (aalez the bar man) Alex showed us to our room (number 1) and invited us down to the bar for free wine. He was very friendly and helpful with the largest music collection you could think of. And if he doesnt have the song he will get it.

we stayed bed and breakfast I had requested a fridge which was a big help with cold water and other drinks. Breakfast wasnt anything to rave about very basic and if you where late there wasnt much left. Aircon and safe where both free which is a bonus. Safe was digital and you set your own code so secure.
Our room was serviced daily with fresh sheets and towels but floors and other surfaces cleaned once aweek. Maid was friendly and we had left items out in the room...only time anything was moved was when stuff was left on the bed and she just drags the sheets off.
Pool area was extremely spacious with plenty of sunbed and umbrellas. Pool was clean and very deep at about 3meters at the deepest point.
bar area is around the pool and is open from 11-5 then 7-12 sometimes later if there is enough people buying.
Wifi. ....what wifi!!! Shouldn't be advertising the hotel has wifi as it was very very poor and intermittent.

there is a free service from the big coop to the hotel so a run down the supermarket becomes convenient and easy when carrying heavy water bottles.

We will be returning to marrianna next year and it will be our 3rd trip to santorini.

We are a couple who love our holidays (this our second of the year) and this one was a peach
:-).

On arrival we were greeted with a vino on the house by the barman Alex who was friendly and served us well the entire holiday. Our room was fab, clean and just what we needed. We had lovely views of the sea and mountain side which I requested by emailing the hotel direct prior to our departure, was so pleased Maria honoured our request on our first visit to the island.

beds made up 12 of the 14 days we stayed and fresh towels. Pool was large, fresh and very clean, also very deep at deep end took two attempts to dive to bottom at deepest part. the pool area was kept very clean.

Just the pool side toilets needed attention (cleaning, flushing system fixing) but minor fault as we had ground floor toilet in reception we could use and we also could nip back to room in less than 2 mins.

There was an electronic safe which was free to use but we did not use it, some days we left jewellery and i-phones out charging and nothing went missing (an earlier review mentioned missing items - we had no concerns).

there was no charge for air con and we slept comfortably each night.

breakfast was continental with variants each morning served 8am-10am.

our balconies and those we could see they all had a fixed washing line with pegs supplied.

we did the volcano, hot springs and thriasia excursion which cost a mere 19 euro each !! we were out from 10am to 7pm, this was booked at the independent travel firm near Dorians Bar which I also must add was just 3 euro for guinness surge can, 3 euro pint draft beer and 3 euros ALL COCKTAILS - the prices are all day every day so always happy hours - hence we went there a few times!

the hotel itself is 5 minute walk from the sea front, ideally located from bars, restaurants, bakery, shops. The beach is shingle and as dark gravel gets very very hot, we purchased beach shoes from the local shop for 7 euro each which we wore on the volcano and also on the walk up to the church (which was open at we could go in), over the mountain over to Ancient Thera and down the winding road to Kamari with the sea taxi back at 4.50 euro each.

Buses to Kamari go via Fira so we didn't bother having a night out in Kamari but it looked nice, was busier beach than Perissa (loungers nearer to each other) and lots more shops and restaurants but we were happy in Perissa.

2 sun beds and parasol were charged at 8 euro a day (whatever time of day you went) but if you spent a bit on a meal you got a free card for a free day's lounging by sea.

we hired a quad rom Mike's bikes for 24 hours for 30 euro and explored the island ourselves with a ride over to Fira and Oia (both highly recommended) and various points included secluded beaches of the beaten track we were out for nearly 12 hours and put just 10 euro petrol in it.

A bus to Fira for a night out (highly recommended) cost just 2.20 euro each person each way with buses going every half hour with the last bus back to Perissa at 01.30 am. most expensive draft pint in Fira was 6 euro, our meal that night was fabulous and maybe 20 euros more expensive than a meal in Perissa but worth it with the views of the Caldera and amazing bustling atmosphere.

many of the folk we spoke to at the hotel would return to Marianna and so would we, Maria was a great host, and for the price we paid with Thomson it was an absolute steal for 2 weeks in the sun bed & breakfast.

in addition the surrounding restaurants and bars were fab, we did not have one bad meal.

we got our water and local red wine 1.5 litres for just 2.45 euro's !! from the coop (supermarket) who picked you up and dropped you off for free (we obviously tipped)

Hotel Marianna is excellent the rooms very clean. All have terraces or balcony. Some are below ground level which I would not accept. My Room No 4 was excellent good views window in bedroom & bathroom. Other rooms don't. Fridge Hire a bit expensive 25 Euros p.w. but worth it.
Down side. Not sure why but toilet & shower pool side is not kept clean so didn't use this. The pool bar is not always available but is a franchised bar.
Owner always happy & friendly, helpful.
Breakfast good choice if self catering Maria is happy for you to have breakfasts extra. Will organise all sorts for you.
Santorini is not a cheap island. Lashings of sunsets. Oia sunset felt a,let down.
Overall good value for money.

Hotel Marianna is a bit of a hidden gem in Perissa - it's close enough to everything to be very convenient, but also on the edge of town - which provides the perfect amount of peace and quiet. The pool is a tremendous asset - it's cool, deep and great for swimming - and the area around it is kept clean and tidy, with plenty of loungers.

The room was basic, but met all of our needs. The whole island was suffering electricity problems while we were there, so nothing worked properly for the first week or so - but this obviously wasn't the hotel's fault! In fact, they put out a lot of candles and gave us a couple for our room, which was a nice touch. Once the power came back on, the air con was great (and much appreciated) and all the other facilities were spot on. The only slight quibble would be the self-catering facilities, which were limited and a bit cramped - but we didn't need to do much cooking really.

It's a very short walk down to the beachfront at Perissa, so you're never far from places to eat or drink. There's a small supermarket and a very good baker within about five minutes' walk. A much larger (and cheaper) supermarket can be found about fifteen minutes away - you can avoid walking along the main busy street by turning right out of the hotel, and following the back road all the way along.

The staff were generally friendly and helpful, but we didn't need to bother them for much. Alex, behind the bar, was a nice chap and knows Santorini very well.

The backdrop is very striking - with a towering cliff face just behind the hotel. There's also a little white church halfway up, which is a great place to get an overview of Perissa.

Top tip 1: if you're travelling with Thomson - the tours they try to sell to you are hugely over-priced. Their Caldera cruise was about 64 Euros per person - but you can get exactly the same experience from one of the local tour operators for 20 each.

Top tip 2: You should definitely make the trip up to Ancient Thera at the top of the mountin. Get started early so the path is in shade - it's a fairly tough climb and the path is rough, so wear good footwear and take water. To get to the path, watch out for the little branching path - there's a cross painted on the rock. Takes about 20 minutes to the church, 45 minutes to the entrance to Ancient Thera and 65 minutes to the actual town.

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms may look like the short straw, but they're much closer to the pool - which...
