“Great clean place with the best price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2009

We stayed in a Blue Dolphins' Apartment next to the veranda where breakfast was served. The view was great. The room was large and easy to find. It was a 15 minute walk downhill to Fira. There is a small market and restaurants within a few minute walk. The staff was great and the breakfast had a good selection with homemade cake or sweet bread each morning. The room included the use of a rental car for a portion of the stay. Really good value for the room. I'd stay here again. The only downsides: we wanted to sleep in, but the breakfast noise from the veranda woke my wife, so light sleepers ask for a room away from the veranda. Also, I never had any problems with the hot water, but the wife said that when she tried to shower in the late morning, there was none left.

We stayed there for 2 nights, it's our 2nd stop in Greece. If without the previous house in Oia to compare, this would be a very good hotel. The room we stayed is right after the steps, facing the breakfast area. We met the same Privacy problem with the Paris traveller mentioned. Our bathroom window is at the side of breakfast area, so it's quite embarrassing using it where there's people enjoying their breakfast or chatting outside. And the door of the bathroom doesn't work.

The room facilities are good, with a wardrobe for your cloth and a safe box and a refrigerator. They can help you order food and it's quite quick. We ordered Pitas as our first food in Firostefani. It tastes really good.

Alexis, the owner, is helpful. We were lost by driving from Oia to Fira and couldn't find Blue Dolphins. So we phoned Alexis, he came really quick after knowing where we were. And he provided a list of recommended visiting places and restaurants of 3 pages. And you can book trips to volcano and boat tickets from Alexis. Although we bought the boat tickets to Crete from a travel agency by ourself, Alexis did try to phone for tickets for us. He's too busy everyday to satisfy every customers' needs.

I heard he's going to marry in June. I wish him all the best.

If there could be a swimming pool, Blue Dolphins is more like what it called. But I believe the price would be totally different.

Wireless internet is free here.

We stayed at Blue Dolphins for 2 nights in May 2009. We paid 80 euros for what had been presented to us as an apartment, but was in fact just a room, as there was no kitchenette. The room was right in the passageway and next to the cleaning ladies' cupboard. Furniture is ok, bed and mattress were very good, but bathroom was a dump. No privacy whatsoever, and we requested to leave as the accommodation was not up to expectations. They did try, and offered a suite for 20 euros more on 2nd night, but cancelled the proposal litterally 5 minutes later!! They later upgraded us to the Canava house, where there were electricity problems upon arrival. Canava House is very expensive considering the "normal rate" of 160 euros a night. We were able to see the suites, which are very nice, however I would NOT recommend this place as it is very expensive for what it is.

Blue Dolphins is a lovely place. Our room had a private balcony facing the caldera...what a beautiful view! The room was very clean. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Alexis, the owner was very helpful. He provided maps, list of places to see and restaurants to try out. It is around 15 minutes walk to the city center.

Because of an Olympic Airlines strike, instead of a night on Santorini, we slept in Athens airport, but Blue Dolphins staff had the shuttle bus waiting for us at 5.30am and provided an early breakfast to help us settle in. Our room was small but clean and with a wonderful view. The breakfast was quite delicious with fresh produce and nicely presented for self service. You breakfast balcony is so high that it is like floating on a cloud as you eat, watching the cruise ships arrive and depart. We stayed with another couple, and they loved it as much as we did. We took advantage of the free car hire for two days and saw all around the island. Unlike some hotels on Santorini, there is a parking area and turning circle at the top of the steps so catching a bus or taxi is easy and the steps are wide and easy to manage, and not too many. The staff were friendly and thoughtful and we can highly recommend Blue Dolphins for a lovely place to stay.

After a 6 hour delay at Athens Airport we arrived at Blue Dolphins at 1am to be greeted at reception and shown to our room, very good service for such a small establishment.

Up at 9am for breakfast on the terrace confirmed our decision to stay at BD; the view of the calder was outstanding and the local youghat with honey was tasty.

Based in Firostefani only a 10 minute walk from Fira town it was isolated enough to get away from the crowds but only minutes away from the action. The 10 minute walk normally took us a half hour as there was so much to see.

We had a traditional apartment, bedroom, bathroom and general room with table and chairs, refrigerator, airconditioning, and sink. We were happy with the room, the bedroom was comfortable and cool. The bathroom was small, the only problem being the shower curtin was a little short and water spilled out. However the price was right, excellent value and the view was spectacular.

Reception arranged car hire for us, something I would not of attempted and it was a real plus allowing us to see the whole island at leisure.

We were here on our honeymoon in May 2008. Having scoped out places to stay for months and hours and hours, we found ourselves continually coming back to Blue Dolphins. I'm so glad that we made the decision to follow our instincts and book our stay.

We wanted to explore the entire island and decided that Firostefani (less than 10 minutes from mid-town Fira) was a perfect option, both for a little seclusion from the tourist hustle and for the views... oh the views! We had a private terrace with the most incredible view of the caldera. The room was the perfect size. We did a mixture of honeymoon suites and standard accommodations throughout our European honeymoon.

THE STAFF: Anja and her staff are incredible people. Our first morning there my husband and I were late for breakfast, but Anja insisted on making us a special order of traditional breads, homemade jams (amazing!) and my favourite... eggs! We talked for a while that morning and still keep in touch today. THIS is what Santorini is like -- this is the kind of people that live and work here. Warm, service-oriented, and very down to Earth.

THE LOCATION: As mentioned, perfect! We had a rental car included in our package and later rented scooters. Highly recommended. Very safe, too, just try to travel during daylight as street lights are sparse on the island.

FOOD: Lots of options. Our first night the ladies at BD gave us a long list of places to stay, their prices, and their personal opinions on the food. So helpful.

Blue Dolphins is family run and is shows -- pride of ownership, good value, location, and the staff make this the IDEAL place to stay if you're looking to stay near Fira. My husband and I have travelled far and wide... BD stands out in our travels.

Bon voyage!
