“Excellent view but, lots of stairs”
Reviewed July 27, 2007

We went to Santorini and Dana Villas in July 2007. Like a lot of others who have written a review, I would like to warn everyone about all the stairs. We counted 200 stairs from the road to our room)

Our room (Room 127) was at the very bottom of the stairs. It was an excellent location. It was right next to the restaurant and right in front of the pool with outstanding views. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the room. We mostly used it as a place to sleep. With all there is to do in Santorini, we didn't see any reason to have a marble foyer with a big fountain.

The room is about what you would expect from European hotels. As with a lot of European and Indian hotels, the air conditioning only comes on after you put your key into the slot. So, if you come back to your room in the evening, the room is really hot and takes a while to cool off. The bathroom (like most European bathrooms that I have experience with) was small. You're not supposed to flush the toilet paper in the bathrooms in Dana Villas. Instead, you are supposed to put the toilet paper in the little trash can. Out of my American habit, I accidentally flushed some toilet paper and nothing bad happened.

I read another review where someone complained about the rusty hot plate. Our hot plate was not rusty but, the big question in my mind was "why is there a hot plate at all?"

The pool was nice. The restaurant was expensive. The exchange rate was not good when we went to Greece (It cost $1.40 to buy a Euro in July 2007), We had dinner at the restaurant and our meal cost 87 Euro. (That was US$121!!!). We had a Saginaki appetizer. I had Pastitsio (pasta and hamburger meat) and 3 Coronas while my wife had shrimp and pasta and a Coke. The food was OK but, US$121???

The breakfast buffet was good and is included in the cost of your room so, get your fill at breakfast and eat somewhere else later on.

If you are looking to be pampered and stay in a luxury room, Dana Villas is NOT the place to go. If you just need a place to sleep, with excellent views

We had trouble booking our room from Greece with a credit card over the phone. Apparently nobody likes to (or is legally allowed to) take credit cards over the phone, and we had no internet access from where we were staying back on the mainland. But for our trouble, Dana Villas upgraded us to a Jr. Suite (villa #120) with a view that literally took our breath away.

Unfortunately, something else took our breath away..the drain in the bathroom, and the 210 steps to get to the top (yes, we counted). The steps we could live with. But if it wasn't for the foul smelling bathroom (which apparently they know is a problem), then it would have been a 100% perfect experience, because the spectacular view, good food and nice amenities like a deep swimming pool and jacuzzi with zero-edge view, all exceeded our expectations. I recommend this place for sure, but bring your own air freshner, seriously. Also, the price wasn't bad at all. We went early July.

My family stayed at the Dana Villas for ten days in June, and we absolutely loved it! It's located conveniently outside Fira in a town called Firastefani, ensuring a relaxed, private atmosphere just a quick walk from the hustle and bustle of Fira itself.
The breakfast is served pool-side and is absolutely delicious, but if you're looking for something lighter the hotel is steps away from coffee shops in Firastefani.
The pool and jacuzzi area offer a breathtaking view of the Caldera.
The rooms are quite rustic, but traditional. I found them to be impeccably clean and cheerful, but don't expect your typical resort furnishings. Also each room has a large balcony with a small table and lounge chairs overlooking the Caldera, while the balconies are along the pathway to the other rooms (and therefore don't offer a lot of privacy), the view (sunset is incredible) is simply outstanding.
Additionally, we found the entire staff to be very warm and friendly. The front desk was always more than willing to suggest restaurants and sights, and their reccomendations always exceeded our expectations.
Also, there is free wireless internet access, and if you forget your laptop, the hotel will be happy to lend you one at no cost!

WARNING: Because the hotel is built on a cliff, you have to climb a series of stairs to get any where! From our room (which was near reception) to the main street, it was an uphill climb of 111 steps! To the breakfast area, it was nearly 200 steps. If you're afraid of a workout (or physically handicapped in any way), don't stay here! But, the view and staff more than made up for this problem.
Finally, don't stay here (or come to Santorini at all for that matter) if you dislike cats, because the feral cat population is astounding!

As a European Travel Specialist and hotel guru for Europe, I must say that for the money (cheaper than most), this hotel boasts a fantastic location, views, service and value. My friends and I went last April and booked the VIP suite for the three of us. Very large with a kitchen, large sitting/dining area, two large beds, separate bed room in back with Jacuzzi tub in bathroom. We had a private terrace with table, chairs and a delicious bottle of Santorini Lava wine waiting for us. The views are unlike anything I have ever experienced - the website photos don't do it justice.

It is outside of Fira in Firastefani, however, with a rental car, you can easily get to town, to Kamari, Ancient Thira, Oia and the wineyards. I would recommend this property to my clients looking to visit Santorini on more of a budget and not needing high-end, very expensive luxury accommodations.

A lot of the positive reviews on Trip Advisor contributed to the decision to book at Dana Villas and we were very happy with our choice. We liked Dana Villas because of its quiet, yet convenient location and because we were treated very well by staff. The suites were small, but the little details made up for its size such as the bathrobes, slippers, the fruit basket (which the cleaners refilled for us), candles in the room, a radio with relaxing music. The suite had a loft bedroom which we found charming and romantic.

We shared our terrace with other guests, but it was nice to get to know other people and you can always have privacy by sitting on the patio outside your door. If you pay more, I'm sure you can get a private balcony.

There are about 4 flights of stairs to reception alone. The stairs were tiring at first, but you get used to them and can just take your time climbing up. All together, with its hilly and steep cobblestone paths and the stairs to your hotel, Santorini is probably not the best place if you have mobility problems. We weren't surprised to see babies crying as their mothers pushed and rattled their strollers across the cobblestones.

Dana Villas has a nice pool bar and restaurant where you can run a drinks tab, as well as a Jacuzzi that has the same great caldera view. The water in the Jacuzzi is lukewarm, but its a good option if you find the pool too cold. For breakfast you can expect scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage weenies, cereal, toast and breakfast breads, French toast, fruit, yoghurt, cheese, cold cuts, coffee, tea and juice. You can use the internet for free at reception.

Words cannot describe how stunning the view is from the villa. Geting some olives, cheese and wine from the supermarket in Fira town and just relaxing on the terrace and staring at the scenery was our favourite thing to do in Santorini.

I was traveling from Houston, TX, with a group of friends and we all seemed to end up at different hotels. I shared a room with a friend at the Dana Villas and could not have been happier. When we arrived they upgraded our room so we had a fantastic suite. The views, of course, are awesome. The stairs to get down to the pool were somewhat rigorous but it wasn't too bad overall. The exercise certainly didn't hurt us! The staff was very friendly and helpful with everything you might need. We stayed here four nights and at least two of them we had weddings going on. Definitely a good place if you are thinking of getting married there! Overall, I was very pleased with the Dana Villas.

I got married at Dana Villas last July, so for anyone planning a wedding in Greec ei highly recommed it at Dana Villas. I was a little worried about booking it all online via email communication, but i must say the day ran so smoothly and our guests to this day talk about the most beautiful wedding they have ever been to. We only booked a standard room and upon arrival find our we have been upgraded to a suite with a Jacuzzi. The room had an amazing view of the caldera and the famous sunset, complete with two deckchairs for enjoying those ecening cocktails.
Everyone complains about the stairs, but really why go to santorini and spend all that money to stay somewhere not on the caldera, purely to save your feet and a bit of exercise. It really was not that bad.
The rooms are clean, the staff is super friendly, there were two porters to meet us and carry our bags upon arrival. The breakfast is fantastic in the way of European breakfasts. There is a combination of eggs, juices cereals, all home cooked. Much better than the traditional stale bread and cheese. And If the lovely lady that worked there last summer is still there, then she will make your poolside lounging around great, bringing over chilled water to excape the heat(no charge of cours), with greek music soflty playing as you enjoy the view.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning on getting married in santorini, anyone on honeymoon in santorini, and anyone that wants to truly enjoy their stay. I have stayed at various other hotels on the Island, and the service and facilities offered by dana villas is truly the best on the island.
I also highly recommend that you try the tiny little tavern on the top of the hotel near firostefani square. It is small with a few chairs outside and a supermarket next to it, but it has some of the best home cooked meals.
