“Great Place to Stay. Infinity Jacuzzi overlooks the caldera.”
Reviewed April 8, 2009

My husband and I had a great time at Dana Villas and even extended our stay. We would definitely go back again. The staff is very professional and knowledgable, friendly, and very helpful. They gave us suggestions of what we could do for fun and gave good recommendations for local restaurants. The rooms are absolutely immaculate. Decor is quaint/rustic. The rooms have everything one would need: sitting area, small kitchenette and bedroom. Each room has a nearly private outdoor furnished patio with a breathtaking view of the caldera. The flow of pool, patio and restaurant is artful and relaxing. An infinity Jacuzzi, which is a little more private, overlooks the beautiful sea and the caldera. There are many steps between street level and the pool. My husband has MS but could manage the 100+ stairs, but someone more handicapped would have difficulty there and, for that matter, throughout most of Santorini. Incidentally, one of the staff tactfully mentioned to my husband (in private) that he noticed that he may have a little trouble walking and showed him an even nicer room on the pool level that would be easier for him to maneuver. We moved to that room after the first night. The Villas are located in Firostefani which is within walking distance to good restaurants, shopping, Firo, cable cars to old Port of Firo and much more. It was great.

You cannot beat the view...right over the edge and into the deep blue sea. Those with a fear of heights need not look down without a shot of Ouzo. It was very quiet and relaxing and when we wanted to hit the town, it was a pleasant 10-15 minute walk...great views!

Our travel agent in Athens, Uli at Adolphus tours, recommended this hotel. After spending hours online researching Santorini hotels, we knew we wanted to splurge on a real "caldera view" hotel....so we trusted our agent. We booked a 1 bed suite with an upstairs and were totally blown away from the first moment we saw it for real. Now, being in our early 60's, we were worried about STAIRS....but trust me - this location is one of the best in Fira. You do have stairs - but nothing you can't handle....You will have to walk UP to the streetside that leads straight into town, but even we were able to do it! So it's very easy access to town and better yet - the staff even shows you where you can park your ATV on that street later. Everything about this place is perfect - clean, gorgeous view of the entire caldera, wonderful hearty breakfast by the pool...but the best part was the Staff. Alina and her brother Peter spoiled us rotten - they even upgraded us to our own little "honeymoon cottage" when we worried about stairs at night...they didn't have to do this - but they just attended to every little detail with kindess and professionalism. They MADE our stay. For a romantic get-a-way with peace and quiet - comfortable beds - great food and staff - Believe me, you can't do any better than this place. We celebrated our big #40 wedding anniversary in paradise....Dana Villas!

My wife, 2 kids and my in laws stayed at 2 VIP suites in the Dana Villas in January 2009. My view is that the hotel can be a great or terrible experience. It's great if if you come during the shoulder season when rates are still quite reasonable and the weather is good. But it's not a great stay if you come with elderly people (which we did) and visit during the dead of winter when Santorini basically shuts down (including most restaurants and shops), the water is too cold to swim in and the weather can be quite misterable (particularly when raining). By the way, there are LOTS of steps (i.e over 200) as the hotel is on a cliffside.

We were upgraded into something called VIP suites which were very nice. Basically these were suites that had a living room, a bedroom and 2 bathrooms and a small kitchnette. The rooms were well apointnted. Service is quite solid --housekeeping is good, reception was excellent and room service was good. The only complaint I had was that porter service wasn't avaialble the night we came in (it was around 10 pm) and we struggled to bring our suitcases down the cliffside. Also BEWARE, this hotel doesn't have a full time reception (no one is at the complex between 12am and 8 am) and in the winter the restaurant is closed so only breakfast room service is avilable. This was a problem for us on new years day when vitrually all restaruants (the few of them that do operate in winter) were closed.

This is a good hotel for a couple that is in good shape.

  • Liked — Fantastic views.
  • Disliked — Too many steps and lack of hotel meal services in winter.

A really romantic and wonderful getaway. We got a really cheap price for the studio apartments on the first week of Nov, where most of the Greek islands start to go into their traditional annual winter sleeping mode. But hey! This is the time to take in the views of Santorini, without commercialism surrounding you.

The room was really fantastic, everything you could ask for. It was a big room, with a fantastic balcony overlooking the caldera. You could just lie there watching the moon-lighted sky every night and counting the stars with your loved one. The room also had a tremendously big and round jacuzzi, albeit a little old. Overall, it was a fantastic bargain as we paid EUR160 for two nights, a price that can probably get you 3/4 of a night in high season?

Be warned though that from the first week of Nov till about end of March, virtually all the shops everywhere in Santorini, be it Fira / Oia / Kamari etc and all the wineries are CLOSED. You will find minimal eating places too, so be prepared for nights of souvlaki and same Greek food.

  • Liked — Fantastic Caldera View!
  • Disliked — The number of steps you have to climb to get out of the hotel each time, but hey, it's good exercise!

We have just returned from a week at Dana Villas. The location of Dana Villas is perfect. Perched on the edge of the Caldera looking over the Volcano with views of the sunset.

We stayed in room 122, it was very private with it's own terrace, loungers and surrounded by flowers. The villa itself had charm but could do with a bit of modernisation. Some of the fixtures were a bit outdated, but not much time was spent in the room.

There was a pool, restaurant and great jacuzzi that we would frequently chill out in, whilst enjoying a cocktail watching the sunset. Pure bliss.

Dana Villas is a perfect romantic getaway. I totally recommend a visit.
