“Exceeded our Expectations”
Reviewed January 3, 2012

From the moment we arrived, we felt like family. Maria was so warm, generous and helpful in suggestions to make the most of our stay. She even organised a bottle of local wine and nibbles for us to enjoy the magic sunset soon after we arrived.

Our little cave apartment, Eros, was wonderfully decorated with tasteful touches and comfort items including robes, luxury towels, fragrant oils and candles. The kitchen had all we needed to whip up a simple breakfast or lunch. Maria helped with a number of great suggestions for restaurants, where to find the supermarket and mini-mart and organised us a hire car for two days to get around various scenic places.

We were lucky to have the whole beautiful balcony area to ourselves for our 3 night stay. When the owner visiting from Chicago dropped by, he told us about catching Santorini-itiz and I think we caught that bug. Next time, it will be longer.

Room Tip: Make sure you relax in the Jacuzzi!

After careful planning and reading all the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, Lithies far exceeded our already high expectations for our honeymoon stay. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Alex who carried our suitcases down the steps refusing any assistance. We had reserved the Eros House which was beautifully decorated with lit candles and rose petals all throughout, including champagne and wine as a welcome gift to the newlyweds. Maria and Alex were the most gracious hosts greeting us each morning with fresh coffee, breakfast, big smiles and kalimeras (good morning), Staying at Lithies with such warm hosts as Maria and Alex quickly reminded me of my childhood with my own Greek family as that is how we were treated at Lithies, like family. Every morning Maria had great recommendations of where to eat and places to see and then in the afternoon we always had the opportunity to thank her as she was always on the mark. The Eros House was beautiful and perfect for the 2 of us with a wonderful jacuzzi tub, very comfortable bed, spacious living area and more than functional kitchenette, We had an opportunity to quickly view the other houses (as they were in between guests) and each one was tastefully decorated and spacious. While our own Eros House was beautiful and the grounds and view spectacular, it was the warm hospitality of Maria and Alex that made our honeymoon stay at Lithies magical. We would (and will) return there in a heartbeat!

Lithies was the highlight of our holiday. We were two families travelling around Greece and our stay at Santorini was very memorable. Our friends celebrated their 20th wedding Anniversary and were made to feel very special by Maria. The accommodation was gorgeous and comfortable. Nothing was a bother to Maria and Alex and it was their hospitality that made our holiday. Beautiful breakfasts every morning and stunning views. We will never forget Maria's smile and our wonderful holiday at Lithies.

Room Tip: All rooms are gorgeous

Santorini is an enchanting place and Lithies Traditional Homes is the perfect place to stay.

We had a wonderful 4-night stay in the Eros Home which is perfect for two people. The bathroom was luxurious with a Jacuzzi tub (that I used after long days of hiking Santorini), the bed was very comfortable, the living room great for stretching out and the kitchen with clothes washer the perfect convenience.

The views, terraces and complimentary wine at sunset were fabulous but the best part was being taken care of by Maria who runs Lithies. She is a warm and welcoming individual who made us feel special. And Alex was a great help in carrying our luggage up and down the many stairs.

Everything was immaculate – inside and out. And the breakfast was plentiful with many choices. You’d order the night before and they bring breakfast when you’re ready in the morning.

It was hard leaving Lithies and Santorini, but we’re sure we’ll be back and we’d highly recommend these homes for anyone wanting a special holiday.

Room Tip: They're all good!

We stayed for 7 nights, how lucky were we......VERY....we were met at the airport by the driver and whisked off to our destination. Having never been to Santorini before within 15 minutes we had arrived...met by Alex who carried our bags down the number of stairs and Maria who was waiting to greet us with her warm smile. The Zephyr House is gorgeous, spacious and welcoming. We arrived at night, so had to wait to see the view, WOW, what an amazing view. Maria gave us valuable information about the island, places to see, where to eat and some of her stories being a local. We explored the island by boat, quad bike and bus...this was the first time we didn't get lost, the island is easy to negotiate. We highly recommend Lithies Traditional Homes to everyone, and Maria made us feel welcome and at home.

Room Tip: All 3 of the houses have spectacular views, you can't go wrong.

We stayed five nights in September and it was one of the best places we stayed during our three month holiday in Europe. The service, friendliness and attention to detail from Maria the manager was outstanding. Complementary wine at each sunset was a nice touch and also the fruit and bottle of wine in our room. The apartments are immaculately clean and have everything you could possibly need. The position is also great with not too many steps like some of the other hotels. The views were amazing and the sunsets spectacular.
Breakfast out on the terrace was simply the best.
We had the best sleep of our trip at LITHIES as it's so quiet at night.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.

We arrived at the small airport in Santorini coming from Athens, and a car from Lithies met us after a short wait. Lithies is at the edge of Fira, away from the massive crowds. To get to the rooms, you need to walk down a fairly step pathway rambling past other hotels, resorts, swimming pools, until you find the Lithies dwellings. There are several rooms, built into the hill side (“cave dwelling”); we were on a lower level, beneath the area of the swimming pool and the office, and we had a large 1 BR unit that had a door opening to a 2nd unit that was shared by our friends. The kitchen was in our unit, as was a small indoor Jacuzzi. The decorations were very relaxing: birds, stones, leaves, fish mesh. The rooms were immaculate, the bed large, the bathroom modern with a beautifully tiled shower. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, utensils, pots and pans and all sorts of cooking items; and has a small table and surrounding couch for breakfast (which we never used since we always ate outside). There is wireless, but in the units we had the signal emanating from the office above is largely blocked by the earth in between. There is an Ethernet cable which worked very well.

Outside is a large patio, overlooking the caldera. A table for breaksfast, meals, drinks; several lounge chairs, and outdoor lines for drying closes (bathing suits, etc.). You can enter the kitchen and the Jacuzzi from the terrace so not to disturb the persons in that unit. Breakfast was provided each morning that could be specified the day before; but usually included greek yogurt, juices, milk, eggs, and bread.

Above us was several other units, and the swimming pool. The pool is not large, just a soaking pool for relaxing when the temperature is too warm, and for having a drink. The pool is located on the terrace of 2 other units, so after getting wet, you can’t really stay there but there is another terrace just 2 meters away with excellent views as well.

The location of Lithies is pretty perfect. A few minutes walk back up the winding pathway brings you to a main street which runs down to the town center. Just as you hit that street, there is a restaurant on the corner not as crowded as some of the others that was quite good. Marie made many suggestions about where to eat and all were excellent. The town center, just another few minutes walk on level ground, is where taxis tend to come to pick up passengers for tours, outings, etc. So, overall the Lithies is in a good area to have as your base.

Overall we had a great time staying there and would return. We stayed 3 nites which gave us enough time to relax at Lithies, see a few parts of the island (we rented a car for one day which I recommend), take a boat tour (also highly recommended particularly if you enjoy swimming), and experience a few restaurants. Actually, one of the best was the sushi restaurant located fairly close to Lithies. The price for the units was a bit higher than we paid at some B&Bs in Greece, but Lithies is listed as a specialty lodging; also by sharing the 2 units the cost per couple was significantly less than just taking one unit. The breakfast were good, the service great (particularly having someone to carry your bags up and down those pathways), rooms clean and quiet. Marie was always helpful, the other visitors friendly, and the views of the caldera magnificent.

Room Tip: Select the 2 unit apartment on the lower level and share it with another couple
