We stayed from April 15, 2010 until April 22, 2010, and only have the strongest recommendations for this hotel. Everything was splendid. The staff is very friendly. Almost every day that we ate in the restaurant we had something for free - it could be ouzos, some kind of drinks, fruit or dessert. Actually, we had so many ouzos "on the house" that we could practically swim in them :-) The only small disadvantage was that the check-in was very slow - we had to queue for at least an hour before we had access to our room.

The room itself was light and airy, with a balcony that was so large it extended in two points of the compass. The cleaning lady comes in every day except Sundays and does an excellent job.

Another thing that has to be mentioned is the pool bar. What fantastic range! There were more than 100 different drinks and a wide range of different liqueurs, among them vanilla, apple, orange, mandarin, cherry, chocolate, and strawberry. Of course, they serve wine and beer as well.

The restaurant has a menu that is rather adapted to tourists - you don't find so many authentic Greek dishes here, apart from moussaka, tzatziki, souvlaki and the traditional Greek salad with Feta cheese and olives. More common are hamburgers, schnitzels, pizza, pasta and pancakes. But don't get me wrong - there is absolutely nothing wrong with the food, and if you wish to eat elsewhere, a wide range of other restaurants is only ten to fifteen minutes walk away.

Stayed one week and i was wonderful!
Really great staff and nice rooms. The only downside I can think of is, that it was hard to get a sunchair around the pool, but if you want to get up 7:00 in the morning and lay your towel there you got one. We spend most of the time down at the beach instead. Around 5 - 10 min walk down there.

Troulakis village is the new Troulakis hotel made in 2006 or 2007. It is run by Mike and his wife Maria and also Pablo although he wasnt as present. The hotel had great service and all the employes where very nice and professional. The rooms was of good quality, nice designs. The double bed is two single beds put together so there is a crack in the middle, this is a little uncomfertable when spooning. The rooms had a tiny(very tiny) safe and aircondition, both of these was very expensive for the time we where there. The main pool is big and got thorrowly cleaned every day at about 21:00. There was plenty of sunbeds around the pool, enough for everyone. There was also a little pool next to the main one, for children. They also had a inside pool but there never was anybody in it.. I dont see the purpose of it either. I recommend using the hotel bar and restaurant, The workers there keep it very professional and make good drinks for the same price as any other place there (if not cheeper). We got better drinks there than the other places(prices was about 7€ for one drink, 3€ for a beer I think). The restaurant had GREAT food, especially the fillet steaks, better than any of the surrounding restaurants. I was a bit dissapointed about the location of the hotel, it was located close to the beach and the main road but they have built the hotel in the middle of an olive tree area so all day there was hundreds of grashoppers making niose like crazy, thank god they where still during the nighttime. I recommend you talk to Mike about what restaurants to visit and where to go etc since the travel agencys only promotes crappy restaurants and places, expensive trips etc.
The nightlife in the area wasnt that big.. there was many bars and such but no clubs, not that I saw anyhow. The shopping was ok. A LOT of turist stores and such but also some good brand stores selling clothes bags etc. there is a friis & company store there where you can get great deals. other than that only turist stores and conterfeit stuff.
The beach in platanias is good but you should travel to elafonissi or some of the other beaches to really enjoy paradise. there is a LOT of turists there. loads of norwegians, also sweedes & danes. as in many turist places there are many minigolf places around. I do not recommend going to limnoupolis wich is the waterpark on Crete, its small and crowdy. maybe good for little children. all in all we really enjoyed our stay here and the hospitality of the hotel workers made it even better.

Different pricings as I remember them:
A/C: 45€ one week
safe: 20€ or 25€ one week
Internet: 2€ for one hour or 20€ or 25€ for one week unlimited
room service free
drinks: 7€-8€ (they can make everything)
beer: 3€
bottled water: 0.5€ or something (nothing really)
I should also mention that the hotel had a supermarket. I will select no on the question about if the hotel has a fitness center but they had a room for it under the reseption with 4 machines just standing there, probably something they will have next year

We booked via a charter company, Ving. We had a two bedroom apartment with a kitchen in the corner of the livingroom. It had two balconies but we only ever used the main one, overlooking the pool. There where two pools, a very small one that was actually a bit too deep to call a kids pool, and a larger one that had a shallow end which was nice for the kids. The was a bar/snackbar with pretty good food for lunch. We did not try the restaurant. The lady that runs the place was very nice and gave out a lot of cookies to all the kids. Seems like a Greek thing to give out "free" stuff, drinks and ice cream to the kids. They have a small kiosk that has a good selection of food and the price is pretty good. The only bad thing at all I will say about the place is that they could have changed the towels a bit more often. We had a couple of towels that got dirty and they just hung them up again instead of giving us new ones. As for the area, not really a hotel review but still usefull, the area is great except for no boardwalk. We had a stroller which was difficult to get down sidewalk.

Troulakis Village is located in the hill above the entrance to the about half a kilometre long road in Platanias where you can buy swimming equipment, t-shirts of different kind of quality, liters with olive oil, tons of spices etc. etc..
The Hotel is absolutely OK. Almost new, I believe it was opened in 2006. So the hotel area and rooms were very nice and clean. Actually, the maintenance and cleaning personnel is among the best we have seen down by the Mediterranean. A big plus for that.
A big L-shaped swimming pool was good to have for a morning swim. There is a poolbar next to the swimming pool and also a small hotel restaurant above the pool selling small, expensive, but good snacks. A little minimarked is also at the place, selling basic items like butter, bread.
For us middle aged people it was absolutely positive to find the kindergarten factor very low. But this was in the middle of september. It is probably different in july / august.
For some strange reason one of the buildings were lying in shadow all day long. It was the building with the balcony direction pointing at the pool.
The size of the rooms were perfect, not a ballroom, not a tiny little bucket room.
The best thing about the hotel is its location. Almost no disturbing noise in the area, and at the same time close distance to restaurants, shopping and the beach. Another thing, at our experience we have found out that when we have some distance to the beach at night, and also stay up in the hill, the problems with the mosquitoes is low.
This hotel is recommended!
