Mythos Apartments
Ranked #57 of 68 Hotels in Platanias
Reviewed November 6, 2009

We went to the Mythos Apartments for a week at the end of October 2009 We are aged 62 and 54 (both with a young outlook). First of all can I say that the hill which keeps getting mentioned in reviews was not a problem for us - OK it is there but you know that before you book. The apartment itself was clean and the maid who came daily was very polite. Amenities were sufficient for a week's stay - kitchen facilities are the same as any self-catering apartment in Greece. If you want five star - then pay for five star. Panos was very helpful and polite even though it was the last week of the season and I bet he was knackered. Platanias is a very pretty village with good bus connections to Chania and from there to Heraklion if you wish to explore Crete a bit without hiring a car. All in all I would thoroughly recommend the Mythos if you want a basic and enjoyable stay in the western side of Crete.

Fancy some people moaning about the hill! Must be some unfit people out there. Admittedly if elderly or infirm the Mythos isnt for you but anyone of average fitness should cope ok.
Location away from the main resort is ideal and half way to the old village where the best restaurants are. I would recommend the Agklioma (sp) which is a family restaurant further up the hill but great food at reasonable prices.
The room was very clean and a good size. Pool is a little on the small side but there were plenty of others locally to try if it wasnt your thing. Never had any problems getting a sun bed. We ate here 4 nights out of 14 and took the food for what it was - basic bar food. BBQ was good value at 10 euros and Panos was very friendly.
Only downside was the dogs! Every night about 3/4 in the morning they would be off, barking and howling. Sometimes the odd one but often 3 or 4 at a time. For this reason only I wouldnt go back. On the + side the sunsets up here were beautiful.

Would recommend to anyone with half a level of fitness wanting somewhere out of the party zone.
There is a hill, but it's only a hill!
The pool is clean and we always had somewhere to sit in the sun or shade.
BBQ night was great, 10 Euro for 2 lamb chops, a pork slice, a chicken breast ,a sausage and one chicken and one pork souvlaki, with chips and tzatziki!
We didn't have a room with a great view - we were on the ground floor, but we did have our own little area with chairs, table, parasol and dryer, we had two floors, so sleeping upstairs felt very normal, rooms were cleaned and bins emptied, every day bar Sunday.
We didn't try all the restaurants further up the hill but the ones we did all had good food and fab views.
Oh yes, and a small lending library!
We usually do really active holidays, so to be able to chill out was great.

well what can i say ,cardiac hill and i am only 40, you get dropped off at the bottom of the hill then your luggage is taken up,and you have to walk 200 metres up the hill.we found the apartments clean but basic, staff friendly, but if you expect to sleep on a night forget it ,there are lots of cockerals that crow all day and night and dogs barking constantly.the owner did offer to move us but we stuck it out, even though i did have to stop my three teenage boys buying a catapolt.the food was awful, over priced and burnt.they have a greek night once a week but its 16 euros each far too expensive.we hired a car for the week which was excellent so we only slept at the mythos and travelled the full length of crete for the week i wouldnot reccomend these apartments for anyone.

Don't know how these apartments got bad reviews, we found them to be very clean (the maid came 6 days a week), bedding and towels changed every third day, apartments modern and plenty big enough. Panos the owner and other staff very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, food and drinks cheapest in the resort. The 'hill' was easy to walk up and down, maybe the complainers should question their own 'fitness'. Is it not suitable for people with walking difficulties (but this is pointed out in the brochure and on the internet). There are things to do for children in the resort if you walked up or down the main street. The beach was great and would recommend Gregory's Bar, for a small price of 6 Euros to hire 2 sun loungers and umbrella (for a whole day) you can use their lovely pool on the beach. Their prices for food and drinks also very good. Would also recommend eating at any of taverners in the old village of Platanias, didn't have one bad meal and the views are spectacular. Great holiday, apartment and resort.

We have just got back from staying at the Mythos apartments. The hill isn't as bad as some people make out and the rooms were lovely and clean. Panos the owner is a great bloke who made us feel very welcome and was always happy to help! The beach isn't too far and there are plenty of tavernas with pool and games for kids. It's very friendly and there were always plenty of sunbeds available. The food is good there..but for somthing special try the many tavernas along the same road the Mythos is on they are better than eating at the bottom of the hill although it was still nice down there. We usually go to a different country each year...but we are going back next year (earlier if I can afford it) as we loved it so much. If you can't cope with a bit of a hill then this isn't for you...but if you don't mind an uphill walk now and again then go for it!
