First time visiting Rethymon and was looking forward to their "blue flag beach" I found getting in the water very gravelly not sandy as described. I also noted that the depth was different in places so in my view caution required if you have kids. For accomplished swimmers thought the water is lovely once youre in and nice sandy bottom. It was just the getting in and out with the gravel that was a nuisance. We enjoyed the beach though having a few happy days down there.

The beach is ok, you have to go towards the break water to get into the water as there are so many rocks with algae on them that it was slippery to get in and out of the water. Lounge chairs along the beach are not free, you have to pay €5.00 rental fee.

The beaches are OK. The prices are in some places are higher than in other cities from Crete!! You must try some train tours from Platanias.

Large Waves made it difficult to swim. Out of Our six days, four had red flags.. My mom who have bad ballance needed my help to even get out in the water.

Sea was great but you need sea shoes to enter water in places as the natural stone, shingle and rocks are quite prominent. You can find sandy spots if you look. Look pout for Astreas beach bar.
