“Nice people in nice hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2009

The hotel is very good. It has very good location, it is clean and very nice. But the most important thing for us was very professional and friedly people working in this hotel! Also I loved the dinner menu - every day there was something new. The breakfast was good too. Give thanks to cook!
We swimmed almost every morning and evening - the beach of sea is very close (maybe ~50 meters from out room). At the same time the center of Platanias is only ~1 km away. And next to the see is great outside bar.
Definitely I will recommed the hotel to everyone. Especially to people who want to find quiet and good place to stay.
There are some rooms in the first floor that didn't feel so good.
Probably the beautiest town of Crete - Chania is only 12 km away. If you don't have/rent a car, you can easily get there by bus or by taxy. I never been in eastern part of Crete, but we didn't get out from the west part within 6 days of our vacation.

We have just stayed at the Apladas in August 2009 myself, husband and two kids.

The hotel is lovely, location great so near to the beach(shingle).
I cant fault the service or staff aor how clean it was. If you have kids that need to entertained then this will be no good for you there is nothing for children to do only swim.

My only fault was the food!!!!! It was buffet (OK) but even the pasta was either luke warm or not hot enough even the kids got fed up.

Onlt stay bed and breakfast some really nice places to eat in the main town.

The Hotel is situated in Platanias (10 min by car from the city of Chania). There room was on the 2nd floor with great view to the pool.(1 pool for babys, 2nd Pool for children and 3rd pool for everyone -adults and children ). Very spacious and clean.Although as a 4 star hotel there was no mini bar and we had to pay extra for the sunbeds and umbrella at the beach. The beach was really very long, but the sea had no clear water...So the most of the days we had to use the swimming pool.We stayed on Halfboard and breakfast and dinner were great ! So was the service from all the personnel.

The Apladas is located just past the densest part of platanias and so has a feeling of privacy, quiet and open space that the other hotels in Platanias do not. However, the sea water is a bit muddy here compared to what you see 500 meters towards the center of Platanias. We chose the Apladas because the design has very private balconies with a sea view in certain parts of the hotel (our room was 232). One should ask for either the 2nd or 3rd floor. On the other hand, the room doors offer virtually zero soundproofing and we were woken up by activity in the hallways. Overall the hotel has a four-star feel, but the rooms are three-star: small rooms, cheap furniture and bathroom fixtures, 13" TV, no clock, and no decor. Nevertheless, the room had a clean feeling, and the couch becomes a bunk bed for two kids. The breakfast is excellent and the staff friendly. Since we looked at several other hotel in the area, I would say the Apladas is pretty much par for the course in terms of price and amenities. If we ever return to Platanias we would probably try another property such as the Blue Dome which has a cleaner-looking sea in front of it to swim in.

  • Liked — Balcony with view and privacy
  • Disliked — Noisy hallway

Me and my girlfriend have just returned from the Apladas Beach, we went for a week and found the hotel to be very good and clean. The staff were very polite and helpfull. The few negative points were,
1, Charge for beach chairs and towels.
2, Choice of Vegetarian food and not marked properly.
3, Charge for the safe in the room.
Apart from these few moans we has a great holiday.
We did a full day excursion to Ellifanisis and on the way went to see some caves and the scenery was great.
We also did a couple of trips to the nearby town of Chania one during the day and one to see the sunset both were very good and we ate at a Taverna in Chania at night watching the sun set.
Before going were not to sure about the flight with XL but were pleasently surprised the aircraft was fairly new and enough leg room as long as person infront did not recline there seat. Good journey both ways. We had a fantastic time in Crete.

We stayed at this hotel in June 2008 for 3 days. It is a very fine hotel. Rooms are spacious; furniture in very nice condition, the bathroom is big. Rooms have a very nice balcony with excellent view (especially the rooms near the sea). All rooms are equipped with TV set, a small refrigerator and A/C. There are 2 pools and a pool bar with very reasonable prices. The hotel is very quiet and the beach is sandy and clean. Stuff is very polite and helpful. My overall estimation is that is a very nice hotel for quiet vacation (especially for families) very near the sea and near the city of Chania.
The things I didn’t like were: The so called 1st floor is about one meter below ground surface with view of the grass of the garden! You have to pay for the sun beds and umbrellas for the beach. In the room there is a safe box but you have to pay for it (2 EURO/day) – they could offer it – it has no cost…. The breakfast has various salted things (eggs, bacon, cheese etc) but very little for the “sweet” lovers (2 types of cakes hard to eat, 2-3 types of hard biscuits, croissants and that’s it)!!! There is wifi internet access in the main bar that you have to pay for it (it could be for free and work as an attraction for the bar – you would pay the drinks to the bar)
