Nothing negative to say about the hotel. We enjoyed 4 pools, my child in addition the miniclub and the minidisco. The room was clean, with a sufficiently large bath and a shower. The staff was helpful and reserved. I liked the terrasse of the restaurant on the first floor with the view on the sea and there was a lot decent food on offer in the restaurant. There is also a waterpark nearby (40 min by little train) which we both enjoyed a lot. The beach is good, although the sea is too rough for a 4-year-old to enter. There are lots of shops and restaurants/cafés next to the hotel as well as 2 small amusement parks (minigolf, trampoline, carts etc). There was one evening with Cretan food and music at the hotel but there could be more of such and for free. Among the interchangeable comsumer places and hords of tourists, it's knowing the authentic Crete and its people that I was left longing for. Maybe excursions could have made a difference, but the stay was too short to take advantage of them.

Stayed at Plaza di Porto before. Since fully booked we selected Porto Platanias. That was a disappointment - although not too bad, it is nothing in comparison.
Porto Platanias is the hotel part and therefore has not a proper fridge. At Plaza we had two bathrooms - here only one. Beds are as hard as laying on the floor. Furniture is a bit worn.
We departed late evening and were told that a shower room would be available with towels etc. No towels - you could rent them and return by 5 pm (i.e. much to early). The shower area was extremely hot, had a lot of water on the floor, nowhere to place your clothes, lights shut due to timing/sensor. Not easy to shower in complete darkness. Apart from that the standard is good.

We travelled as a family, and had two rooms next to eachother. The rooms were spacious, and clean. We had a view to one of the pools from the balcony, but some of the balconies had no view, or were located in the back yard or overlooking the footpath in the hotel. We had breakfast included, and that was pretty good. The selection was wide, but the quality of the hot food varied. Our youngest son was doted on by all the staff, they were very friendly to children, yet formal and courtious to adults who prefer that.

The spa was pricey, but the service and treatments excellent - a nice place to go for a bit of peace and quiet for a busy mum. Internet access was listed at a price, but you got it for free if you were going to use it near the pool area. There were activities arranged throughout the day (ping pong, football, water polo), and something going on in one of the bars every night, which is nice when you travel with children.Music quiz, film quiz, bingo etc. There were also a few small playgrounds which where a huge success with our one-year-old. The bars where a bit expensive when you didn't have all inclusive.

A nice 3,5 star hotel. Close to the beach. Very clean and the service is good.

A lot of Scandinavian tourists, mostly families. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel every night. The Buffet is big but of average standard. Drinks are a bit expensive.

Porto Platanias Beach and Spa is a good hotel.
However the the routines with people reserving sunbeds for up to 4-6 hours without using them should be improved.
We had a big cockroach in our hotel room.

The staff is excellent, the beds are hard and the food is ok.

The traffic in the main street is crazy, as it probably is all over Crete!.
The narrow sidewalks makes it dangerous to walk along the main road with children.
This is to bad, because all the restaurants and shops are located along this main street.

Spotlessly clean, staff bend over backwards to be friendly. Perfect location. Food good, could be warmer though.
Went half board, would go back B and B as there are so many places to eat within walking distance.Highly recommed the Olive tree, just 5 mins away - big thanks to Stefan, Jimmy, Rula and Yanni.

We booked this hotel based on previous reviews and its supposed 5 star rating. Sadly, it was not even 4 star in our opinion. Before people criticise, I would emphasise that we are not especially fussy people and were not expecting a Ritz-style experience. But it fell below our expectations.
First the pro's:
-Great location. Platanias and Agia Marina on your doorstep and ample choice of restaurants. Easy to get the bus to Chania which is beautiful.
-Very clean. Our room was cleaned daily and could not be faulted.
-Nice pool area
The con's:
-Food is very poor and hardly any selection. We ended up eating out a lot, despite paying for half board.
-The advertised spa is beautiful, but sadly very expensive. Just to use the lukewarm "heated " pool and steam room/sauna is 30 euros for 2 people, for 3 hours. The jacuzzi is an additional charge on top of that. It's a shame because it was empty throughout our stay as people were put off by the charges. I don't mind paying but normally it is a nominal fee and would definitely include the jacuzzi!
-The staff are not helpful. We asked to move rooms as we were put by the bar and it was noisy. We were told it was not possible. When we got our tour company involved, suddenly it was.
-We were told that calls from our room phone were 18 cents per minute. This was wrong. Hence on checkout we were charged £47 euro for 2 ten minute calls!
-The hotel is mainly for scandinavian tourists. Not a problem in itself, but it means that if you are british and go with a package you do not have any rep service at the hotel. Instead you have to walk a good 10 mins down the road to another hotel. You do feel a bit forgotten.

We still had a lovely holiday as Crete is great and the hotel was fine in itself. However, it is a rip off with all the extra charges and you are not treated with much personal care as an individual. I would not recommend.
